Aion will be the next "great" mmorgp for me, that's for sure.
im sold on the grafix. some may say that grafix are not that big of a deal. i disagree. ive found most mmo's to be very(very) similar. so assuming that this game is like most mmo's, it is the grafix that set it apart. IMO conan and warhammer look lack luster. Aion looks awsome!!!!
Yes so far everytjhing in aion looks great. I have been following this game for a while now and the anticipation is pretty high. This is going to be a groundbreaking game in terms of style, the fluid animation and overall gameplay.

Ya most mmorpgs just have graphics to set them apart. This is what the problem is now days imo.
Idk much about warhammer but I know conan is having many new features compared to games already out. But do you really think graphics set games apart? The longest lasting mmo is Ultima Online check out those graphics =P.
In conclusion I will say the graphics are very desirable and also some of the features but I do not think it will be the next "great mmo" as because it is not delivering to much other then graphics. Imo it's an lineage 3 typ deal.
I agree with the guys above me , Aion graphics and animation look so sweet and it still has months to improve. And the gameplay sounds promising with new original ideas. Like flying around like an angel or demon , now that's cool!
To also note thats not rly an original idea and has been done. Not typically angels/demons rly but angels and such.

Your first point is valid, graphics don't make or break a game, but you obviously haven't looked into this game enough, this game features a lot of content and things to do, it's not only graphics, and it's not L3 type, a different franchise, with different intentions.

You're obviously new to the game For the 1st to 3rd generation of electronic gamers, gfx are nothing. For one, check out Ultima Online, the longest running MMOG in the world. Then second to that is Lineage 1, the 2nd longest running MMOG in the world.
Now third, check our the list of mudconnector.com, all online games that doesn't have any graphics (save for some text-graphics). There are still many MUD players today.
For us, your *ehemm* elders (tho I'm only 26), we don't look at gfx but rather we look at the features and the fun factor and the overall gameplay. It may have the best graphics, it may have to graphics technology of Year 3000, but if its features, fun factor, and overall gameplay sucks, it is a useless game or online game.
BUT, the 4th generation to the current generation of gamers, all they care about is the graphics. For these younger generations, it is all about eye-candy. A game or online game with graphics from the future will receive high ratings from these generations even though the game sucks in every factor and overall.
Sadly, there's only a few of us compared to the 4th generation and onwards. So developers opt for gfx and less on ingenuity.

Ok maybe I worded that wrong and yes I haven't followed to much upon the game just most things I heard so maybe I'm hearing the wrong crap but still imo this game doesn't offer that much compared to newer games. For example
-Explore a breathtaking 3D world where you can scale sheer cliffs and soar through drifting clouds
Just eyecandy to make it exciting.
-Enjoy an interactive and cinematic game experience like no other, powered by the cutting-edge Crytek™ game engine
more eyecandy?
-Immerse yourself in a gripping and artfully told storyline that evolves with every action taken
Hopefully this is true on every word and this will make a nice feature =]
-Fight in an evolving conflict system of PvPvE - complex relationships between realms, races, and guilds, as well as an NPC faction, The Dragons, who are the common enemy of all players
This is kind of new and will be intresting to try I have high expectations for this key feature.
-Experience an amazing original score by Asia's top New Age musician, Kunihiko Ryo (Yang, Bang Ean)"
Ok sound is always very important in a game but having it as an feature to have some awesome asian musician doesn't really interest me.
2/5 key features off the original site are pretty good maybe not enough information is here yet to debate on this matter but for it to be a great great long lasting mmorpg they better be delivering more.

That's the thing, that site is a teaser and a web that shows 2 years old specs, back when they didn't want to share information.
Now we have lots and lots of info, and most of the people excited about this game are aware of that. But, until NCsoft EU/NA releases their final site, which is on the making and should be coming soon, we have to look for the "disciples of Aion" feature which provides information to fansites, and we have to look also for korean translations when we go into more technical stuff.
So far, innovative features I would point are the vertical world, with interactivity on the z axis, rifts concept, those that open randomly connecting both parts of the world so oppossite factions can meet and even cause havoc in the enemy lands, and which allows a lot of related features, NPC killing, where you can screw your enemies for a certain ammount of time by killing the NPCs they need, 3rd AI controlled faction which could help you or attack you at their own will, and that would help to balance RvR (one of the main points) if a side grows way stronger, and a free flight system which isn't like in the other games that allow you to fly, since here you can fight, use exclusive skills, and add a strategical point to battles. Open world PvP with NCsoft's seal, aka massive, well, that's not new, but it certainly adds a huge point to the whole RvR concept.
If we add everything that has been seen in other games, this game would count with a lot of content and things to do. You can't really make an opinion of the game without even browsing this forum's thread, we have posted a lot of info so people don't come here stating features from the outdated overview in MMORPG.com.
Also, there are over 300 player-made videos in youtube from beta tests rangng from quests, to pvp/ve and fluff, you can even figure how it plays, and we sure love it.
www.aionsource.com if you ever intended to look into this game ^^
There are already some sources in which u can get the basic idea about Aion. A few sites, a lot of videos in youtube, interviews and articles from beta testers and some more.
There are even some people from NCsoft officialy who are answering in some posts in this forum.
But we really need a good new HIGH QUALITY official site with all the features, similar to Aoc and Warhammer, so we can see whats really in NCsoft's plans and not just a site with some videos, screenshots and some general sayings from NCsoft.
i was overstating my case, ofcourse. NO, im not new to the mmo thing. i was pretty uber at eq 1 and very uber in swg, till they faq'd it up. also played eqII,shadowbane,vanguard,coh......
ive been following aion, and there IS some new gameplay ideas, or newish anyway, BUT, i think its the grafix that are blowing my mind, not the gameplay innovations

Well as i said be4 , till NCsoft makes a new high quality site for Aion, so we can see all new features officialy, graphics will be one of the biggest reasons for this game. We have seen some gameplay but almost everything is from the videos on youtube and some more fan's site.
im not good at linking stuff, but, there is alot of information out there about aion. one site has actually translated some of the korean site updates. try aionsource.com or www.mmosite.com. there is alot of information about gameplay, including harvesting and crafting on those sites. thats where ive been getting my data from anyway.
Yeah sure there are a lot of sources where u can find about Aion, but w/o an official good site and more advertising the average player wont even bother to search through internet for a game.
Most people just play what is cool and has the biggested community w/o mostly even check the features of the other games or the game they playing too and are just adapting the whole thing. (like wow)

Excellent! Let them play Warhammer or Age of Conan then (if those 2 gets big). Cause I sure don't want them in Aion.
I'd rather have a smaller community with experienced and dedicated mmo gamers than a large community with people that don't know what the word mmorpg means.
"If I had a d*ck, I'd go get laid. But we can do that next best thing... Let's kill people."
I hope Aion community doesn't get as bloated as WoW... cause 1 for a fact, wow=kids, I hope they make this game hard so kids won't flock to it. Kids killed the wow factor in WoW. Lets not ruin a potential game by making it for kids, you can also see why there isn't much advertisement about this game, they probably don't want kids LOL....
i played vanguard for 8 months, and the community there seemed a little more mmo experianced. I'm guessing that this is gonna be the same kind of crowd. I base this opinion on the fact that both games are a lil off the radar, and so, more hard core gamers will be playing in proportion to others, who tend to stay in the main stream.
That's quite a bold state ment - there is no guarantee the number of quality players will rise with the amount of players subscribing - nor the other way around.
I doubt Aion will be big - atleast not in the European countries, perhaps not the US either.
well, at least that's my opinion... NCsoft is one of those "asia grinder" publishers, so i don't care really about aion, as i dislike grinding games...
for me those games are fun for the first 10-20lvls, after that, yeah, gets pretty boring.... killing the same type of monster for hours only to get 20% ? no thx :-)
i'd rather pay 15bucks and play games like wow,the upcoming warhammer online or even ultima online....
but as always, it's to everyones personal taste if they like a game or not, i'm not into grinding games, that's for sure...
Can't even have a decent fun argument, because half of the people who feel the need to post don't know much about the game at all most of the people who do doubt Aion are just in love with some other game, but don't post stuff like grinders. I can't emphasize how many times in interviews that the grinder topic was dicussed and what they are doing to make Aion not like any other grinders. Maybe you should watch some of the interviews or some wikipedia about Aion before you jump to a grinder, because they are Asian

make sense?
There will be always kids and unmature players in a game. Its like a 20% of the game's community.
It is so obvious for wow, cause this 20% means a couple of millions subscribers.
If Aions will have a million subscribers for example there will be about 200k kids playing too imho.
It is logical that there are a lot more kids playing the bigger the community is.
But there are a lot more good players too, the bigger the community of a game gets.
That's quite a bold state ment - there is no guarantee the number of quality players will rise with the amount of players subscribing - nor the other way around.
