Start Time Quote from FC

"You are required to be a FilePlanet member in order to sign up for the Open Beta. Preloading of the client will start prior to the launch of the Open Beta, and applicants will receive more information should they receive a beta key. The Open Beta will start on the 1st of May at 1500 GMT / 0900 EST."

1500 GMT = 3PM GMT. EST is minus 5 hours GMT or 10AM.....NOT 9AM

FC seems mathmatically challenged with time zone conversions...

I live in the US and I get confused...

    DST messes everything up.

How reassuring that Funcom can't tell time.  Oh dear!  Hopefully they're better at other stuff.  Even if they have a stellar open beta launch, we can always throw time in their face if they piss us off.

My husband and I are in the US for right now but we live in Britain.  Even with BST and the loopier DST (which they keep changing the date for), it takes me a second to look it up.  Maybe Funcom doesn't have internet?   Even though I was just teasing, it's still kind of sloppy.  The US should just give up and declare daylight savings time to be in effect all year.   It gets longer and longer every year, anyway.   Or get rid of it.  Either way is fine!

Unfortunately funcom is NOT a US timezone based company so they really couldn't care about the little details. It's the end user that should be smacked in the face for not realizing that 9am EST is ACTUALLY 10am EST for us.

2 minutes or 2 hours ...it will happen when it happens. It's just frustrating that the 2 primary organizations involved (FP and FC) who are worth 10's of millions of dollars can't get their info straight or figure out a simple math conversion.

I could not agree more. I understand why daylight savings was used back in the day but now it seems pointless. All it makes you do is over sleep for work or make work seem an hour later. I agree to get rid of it!!!

Patching AoC now and getting excited!!!!

When I see GMT , I see blah blah blah/ 9 est. I would think they post the right time, or they wouldn't post it. had they listed gmt only ..... I would have done the math myself :/ .

    Ignoring the EST

    1500 GMT will be soon

    EST = GMT - 5

    PST = GMT - 8

    So 1500 GMT is

    1000 EST

    700 PST

However there is an adjustment for DST

So when in DST we add 1 hour

    So the real time is

    1100 EST

    800 PST

To add an extra patch to improve the gaming experience and quality of gameplay, the official start time of the IGN Open Beta now is:

    20:00 GMT (8 pm GMT)

(to check the current GMT time please refer to http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/)

We wanted to add the extra update prior to launching the servers rather than to fix it shortly after the start of the Open Beta.

Users who have registered for the Open Beta will also receive an information e-mail about this in their inboxes shortly.

    Thanks for your understanding.

And I thought the days of overly-long patch days/times were in the past..guess some developers still haven't upgraded.

Oh well, guess this means I can go to my physical therapy appointment and focus on the exercises rather than what I plan to do once I get back home.

I believe it's 4 PM EST since they added 5 more hours for the new patch.  I won't go into doom and gloom but I do hope they learned their lesson from AO and things work out well for AOC.

  • DignaDigna Member UncommonPosts: 1,994

yeah 4PM..I keep forgetting the damn DST....

  • VortigonVortigon Member UncommonPosts: 723

And all you guys forgot to add that they might mean BST not GMT, since UK is on british summer time NOT GMT.  BST = GMT + 1 hour.

    :)

    :)

I don't think Funcom even has an office in the UK so I'm not sure why they'd mean BST.

Now it's 6 PM now adding 2 more hours.

    Just makes me wonder...hmm.
