It seems to me most ppl on these forums are completely 'over-mmorpged' and are not gonna be satisfied with the mmo genre for quite some time. its refreshing the devs have tried to create decent graphics for a change. thats the only way to push things forward. if u make WoW graphics ppl complain theyre shit, make good graphics ppl complain their shitty PC cant run it. It's a no win situation.
All of you thinking, 'its ok WAR is the next big thing now' you may as well just cram it. Ive been in closed beta for months. Its nothing exciting at all (not logged in more than 10 times). If your disappointed AoC feels WoWish (which it doesnt to me) then prepare to be devastated when WAR comes out.
All these 'reviews' popping up on here are bullshit anyway. Levels 1-20 have already been stated to be a different game in respects and are playable solo in semi-online guild wars esque fashion. Post 20 levels are a vastly bigger part of game so you cant comment on the nature of the game being 'lame' for instances in levels 1-20.
For the record, im definately not a fan boy. ive not preordered and il wait for some proper reviews to come out of later content etc before i order.
Maybe see u in game.

Well, I can agree, many of the posters on these forums are looking for something "different" from the standard MMORPG model followed by most major games today. Of course, when they get a different game they frequently hate it, but that's a discussion for a different thread.
But the posters here are not a good cross section of the MMO community. A vast majority of gamers never visit a forum, much less this one, especially if they are happy playing their current game of choice.
Will WAR be different? In some ways, yes, because the end game is PVP focused vs PVE raid centric so it does change the dynamics. But as to how you get to that end game raiding, probably very similiar to every game before it. I'll be killing 10 dwarfs for their beards, skinning wolves, and escorting orc princesses across perilous territory.

Thanks, though I found your experience not to mimic my own, and more like damage control than an honest analysis of the situation. At first I started to agree with you on your first paragraph where you say 'people complain if you make WoW graphics' but then in the second paragraph you go and say 'WAR is WoWish', which means you are doing the same thing that you just criticized. Your thoughts dont seem to be balanced in this regard, so I'm guessing there is some agenda there. You have to apply the rules and logic equally across all games, not just make exceptions for the game you personally want to 'win'. If you had left out the WAR nonsense your post might have come across better. But when you put that in it really labeled you as a person only trying to push people away from other games and onto AoC, rather than providing any valuable insights.
Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence.
Woe to thee, the pierce-ed.
I don't think they are really looking for something different. Because if it truly was something different, there would be people complaining about it. Like there are some people complaining that the combat system is going backwards and that the "target > auto attack > special ability" system used in majority of today's MMOs is actually vastly superior to what AoC has to offer. Why? Because apparently it is too complex or that mashing directional buttons gets "old" too quickly.
The fact is that people are never going to be satisfied. I for example played SWG in closed beta. Was very vocal of my disappointment along with many others and voiced concerns that they should not launch the game with 30% of promised features in place. They did launch. And some people were very happy with the game. I checked back after six months. No change. I checked back year later and few features had been implemented. Still people liked it and some people hated it with a passion.
WAR is probably be an ok MMO, but it is not going to be groundbreaking either and there will be lots of disappointed people. Just like there will be with AoC. It is unavoidable.
The best thing, or the only thing, you really can do is to play the games you like. I do not know whether AoC can hold my interest for long, but I certainly give it a try. Why? Because I quite liked the game during the PvP weekend albeit agree that it does need a bit polish, but nothing that major.

Actually, yes I am defending AoC. Im only defending it from undeserved negative criticism, not bestowing it with any particular praise. That is the difference.
I agree shouldnt have commented on WAR. I did that because loads of ppl have criticised AoC saying its wowish and THEN responded saying that WAR is the revolution and that is gonna be the next great game. Using it as a putdown for AoC. I have little strong feeling about either game right now. WAR was very early when i last pld it and it's prolly advanced loads by now. I got no beef with WAR (but it is slightly WoWish ).
People always want to scream "Dooooooom" whenever a game comes out. Age of Conan, for all it's faults...is an amazing game.
Don't worry....it'll be around a long long time.
So far I have played n enjoyed the game. For me was very smooth running, little lage, prolly the best graphics I have seen in a game to date, combat is fast n a decent story. Least I have not been sent out to collect 20 rat tails.
People should simply learn to take a game, and like it or dislike it based on the game's merits or demerits, not because of how it is or isn't like a different game. If you don't like the combat because it's not like WoW, then play WoW. If you don't like the graphics, try out Eve. If you don't like the high system specs, there are alot of web based games for your enjoyment, give Tower Defense a try. If you don't like the game because it doesn't follow a fictional ancient lore that you want to know about, try out LOTR. I'm aware that gaming companies market their games as how different they are and what great features they have, but leave the comparison and contrast to the people who get paid to do it. Take a game at face value. Read about it and maybe even hop in beta if you can. My ultimate point here is:
But if you don't like a game, make sure it's not because you wish it were a different game.
Boy it's funny how ppl say a game sucks and it's trash when they clearly have no clue. You guys that are in open beta and saying the game sucks. Get this you are only playing the first 13 lvls out of 80 wow doesn't take much for you guys to make up your mind. Come back and tell me the game sucks when you played to lvl 50 or 80 then you would have a little more info on the game to talk. But the first 13 you have no grounds to talk.
Also i am no fanboi i don't have that can't of loyality to no game or any company.
