I don't know about everyone else, but i amd still looking for an MMORPG that will keep my interest.
My first MMORPG was DAoC. My friends and I joined 2 months after the title lauched, and it being my first MMORPG, holds a special place in my heart. It was a magical time and place. However, after about 5 months, all of us simultaneously burned out on the treadmill.
I had also picked up EQ about 2 months after DAoC (so i was playing them both). The graphics were better in DAoC and it felt like a lighter version of EQ. Yes EQ was richer and had more features, but it was another endless grind.
Following that I finially succumbed to UO after soooo many people telling me to get past the graphics and try it. It was awesome for a while...but again... i burnt.
Then came a stream of copycats and poorly executed titles:
Shadowbane - What happened to all the pretty graphic that were on thier web site? It wasnt fun. It was buggy. It was murder.
AC2 - This one completely alienated me. I could not identify with the character choices, story, and sonic landscapes. Grind grind grind
Eve - ZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Horizons - yeah right.
Lineage 2 - A bit thin
Planetside - fun for a few weeks
SWG - Better... but I really wanted a Medieval fantasy.
I went back to DAoC several times but was quickly was reminded of the endless grind. So i gave up for a while... but i couldnt stay away. Started hitting betas. Trying to get back into it.
So if anyone is truely satisfied with a game, please post it here and explain why.

Saga of Ryzom is definitely worth of trying.
Is there really a grind in DAoC?
I got my merc to 50 in the first 3 months(this was before mercs were popular and had to rely on friends been online to group me so i was even slow).
But after that there is no real grind unlike EQ which has level65 and unlimited AA points(and AA points are a must now to do anything good).
Honestly speaking i think atm the peak of mmorpg was EQ and DAoC.Hopefully another era will come soon with EQ2 and WoW.
However in the meantime loads of games are lighter versions of this games.I suggest if you want some fun for a couple of months waiting for WoW/EQ2 go with city of heroes it is good for a while and refreshing.

The only game I have really enjoyed is Earth and Beyond. A tale in the Desert was a close second (lack of players caused me to quit). Tried Rubies of Evertide, Linage, Dark age of Camelot, and Anarchy Online. Liked none of them.

anarchy online is still to this day my favorite mmorpg of them all... although I no longer play it, I still consider it the best out on the market for players seeking a game with material.
Wish holds great promise for me, but i'll give Ryzom a shot as well.

Im sorry I tried SOR beta and I just could not get pass the way chars move in that game, I mean trying to turn in that game is just plain silly it reminds me of the vids for the Matrix Online where you waddle like a sick Duck... Add that to the fact that it was pitch black when I first logged in and I could not see 2 feet in front of me and this was after I adjusted my settings.....They say the first few moments can make or break a MMO during the beta phase, well just like Shawdow Bane it sent me running.
I have to agree with the person that said AO, while I hate it with a passion now due to the Shadowlands Expansion, it still is the best COMPLETE MMORPG out there todate... Which speaks Volumes about the current state of the MMO world blah..
The MMO world is in a sad sad state at the moment if you ask me, kinda wish I never got into them in the first place.. Its been nothing but dissapointments for several months now, and I have just burned out on the Old MMO's.

You see, every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with their surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith
I think we have been in a MMORPG emergency for the past year or so, but hopefully WoW, EQ2, and Guild Wars when it comes out, will be the CPR we need to save this dying breed.
Ive tried almost all the games u mentioned. The 1 that kept me going was Ac1 that i played for 3 years. After Ac i tried all open betas and entered a few closed betas also. SOR in beta was very bad (tried it 6,7 months ago) with a crazy lag.
Ive finally decided to look at Ac2 3 months ago. I played it in beta and desliked it. They have a 15 days trial that made me try it. Im still playing it on a euro server (dawnsong): joined a nice guild with weekly quests, loving combat and quests, new crafting system implemented 1 month ago is very nice too, friendly people. Those reasons are making me play it every day.
Give it a try, mb u like it... i did

no interest in mmorpgs..... noooooooooooooooo. *kills self*. The thought of that scares me, but I cant find anything too interesting out there either, then again, I haven't really looked. But i am looking forward to WoW or EQ2, I haven't picked which one yet, but they both seem of interest. Nothing to do but wait and play solitare i guess.

No, I am fairly certain i love them.. I think that most of the games i was playing were missing a good role playing element, and of what was there - it was proliferated by serious geeks. RP is totally non-existant in some of the more recent MMORPGs (ironic isn't it).
There are a few bright points of course: Raids in EQ are fun. Perhaps i just burned out and needed a break. The live story events at the end of the Wish beta were awesome ( this was quite different from what i was used to - more like an action movie). The RvR in DAoC was fun at first but ended up repeating all the time. We'll take your keep, no they'll take ours. Lather, rinse, repeat ad nauseum. But i digress.
