What is the End goal in SWG

I am increasingly finding myself asking just what is the end goal in SWG, what i mean is whenever i play a game there is something to aim for, mostly it is to defeat the biggest baddest dood out there and get the end credits but i can find nothing at all similar in SWG?

Just what is the end game? or do you just carry on 'grinding' untill you get that fed up you cancel your subscription and go off and play another mmorpg doing the exact same thing only with different graphics?

I mean come on its not much of a game when you pay 8 quid a month for a macro to spend weeks at a time making crap to get exp, only for when you get to start another macro for another kind of exp, i just dont get it.

Some of you may say it is to get Jedi, but when you get it you are too afraid to openly come out and strut your stuff incase you get permadeath, i mean come on would you pay 8 quid a month for a permadeath character?

I am going to have a go with the free trial but that is all just to see what exactly my pal see's in this sort of game that totaly engrosses him to the point that he now has no life away from the pc monitor at all..

There is no "endgame" IMO endgames are for single player games, not MMO's. If you are a crafter there then you are constantly trying to find better resources to make better things. You strive to be the best crafter on the server. If you are a fighter, there are new things to fight every couple of patches...Or you strive to be the best at PvP finding the right combo of professions, buffs, drugs, food, armor, weapons, PUP's, and specials to beat the other guy. Or you find all the NPC's that can give you missions to finish. The game goes on forever which is the way I feel it should be.

SWG is a MMORPG. With ALL mmorpgs there is no one end goal. SWG does have the most choices of goals. Zek your character can be known as the best master muscian in the galaxy, or on a certain planet. 2 months later you are a renowned miner supplying elite raw resources. 3 months later your same character Zek is one of the best combatants, joining a group of elite players and killing the current hardest monster in the game. (It varys with opionions. Some say Krayt Dragons, or Night Sisters, or NPC Dark Jedi, or the uber Rancor, or even the giant poisonous snakes on Yavin IV. Or even a few other monsters.) Heck, Zek can be known for killing every single main monster on every planet in the game. Kind of like in that old TV show "Bring Em Back Alive" except Zek brings em back.... uhhh.. dead.

4 months later Zek is known for designing some of the best houses, mansions, on whatever new planet he settles down on. 2 months later Zek is known for his army of Imperial Stormtroopers.... raiding cities full of player rebels and slaying them. 2 months later Zek is one of the most sought after doctors in the capital city on whatever planet. Or maybe in a backwater city. 1 month later Zek is a very sought after Combat Medic. 2 months later Zek joins the Rebels because he has a change of heart after seeing how many Rebel players he has slaughtered heheh.

SWG is simular to life in the way that it is up to you how many goals you have. Some people set and accomplish 1 goal in life and that is it. Some set and accomplish 5, 8, 15 goals in life.

Just what is the end game? or do you just carry on 'grinding' untill you get that fed up you cancel your subscription and go off and play another mmorpg doing the exact same thing only with different graphics?

This question of yours is not about SWG. It is about MMORPGs. Better off posting it on the MMORPG.com general forum.

I mean come on its not much of a game when you pay 8 quid a month for a macro to spend weeks at a time making crap to get exp, only for when you get to start another macro for another kind of exp, i just dont get it.

SWG is NOT intended for powergamers. It is intended first for Star Wars fans. Next for gamers with little free time to play. With 1-3 hours of time to play. It is one's choice to grind, or to have fun doing any of the other 20+ professions instead of becoming a Jedi. Join a PA. And more.

Some of you may say it is to get Jedi, but when you get it you are too afraid to openly come out and strut your stuff incase you get permadeath, i mean come on would you pay 8 quid a month for a permadeath character?

Incorrect. There is no perma-death for player Jedi in SWG. Also, being a Jedi is not the ONLY "endgame" goal in SWG.

I am going to have a go with the free trial but that is all just to see what exactly my pal see's in this sort of game that totaly engrosses him to the point that he now has no life away from the pc monitor at all..

I suggest you first be a neutral. Spend 3 or so days getting used to the game. Then at the official SWG site, post on the forum for the server you are on. Ask for any PAs looking for a new member. Post what you are looking for in a PA (aka a guild.) SWG is much more fun when you are playing with a group of players with simular goals, and playstyles as yours.

well if the only point to these games is to live a virtual life then I would rather live the real one, remember you are a long time dead and after spending 12 hours a day 5 - 7 days a week in a server being 'Virtualy' great its not exactly something to leave the kids is it...

Strikes me these are for the people that can't or wont achieve anything and need a getaway from the real life problems they would rather not face.........

  • JodokaiJodokai Member Posts: 1,621

Do you realize how dumb that statement sounds? You come to a GAMING website and say anyone who games is either: Unsuccessful, and wasting time because you can't leave it to your kids. If gaming is so bad, they why are you here?

Personally I think it was all a setup, you were dying to use that line and finally got the opportunity, so congats.

  • nolfnolf Member UncommonPosts: 869

Like was said, one cannot come to a gaming website and say something like that expecting a warm reaction.

But we have all played these games. We know that he is right in many ways.

ESPECIALLY in playing SWG, i ran into MANY people who would fit his statement.

Anyone denying that this is a possible pitfall of these games, may have already fallen in it::::35::

Do I think that EVERYONE playing an mmorpg is a failure in life? Not at all.

But really, think about that idiot you just killed in honorable combat last night, and how full your email is going to be with hate mail from his guild, and tell me the original poster doesn't have some kind of point.

Even if it was made too broadly.

I really hope that *insert game name here* will be the first game to ever live up to all of its pre-release promises, maintain a manageable hype level and have a clean release. Just don't expect me to hold my breath.

Who said you had to chose to live one or the other? It is a GAME firstly, if it is not the kind of game YOU like, then don't play it.

My real life is just fine, good car, nice home, someone to come home too, yet I play SEVERAL MMORPG's and I find you nothing but ignorant and insulting. I never ASKED for your opinion on what I do, your opinion has no value what so ever. You don't even have a good education (apparent from your grammar) let alone be qualified enough to give me an opinion about my life.

    Erm

1)mmorpg are designed to live a more exciting virtual life.It is not meant to substitute real ife(for most of us hehe).

2)there is no endgame in mmorpg. It is an open end thing.Thats the principle of it.A virtual world filled with wookies, bounty hunters, trolls, orges, elves fighting and living together .

3)I really think you are not meant for this genre honestly and should try other types of games because certainly from all you said u will not be happy playing it.So why torture yourself.

4)Don't know what the heck you are talking about no achievement.Well i am not a president(doubt you are either.if you are i hate you Bushimage). If you bother to enter the chat room you would find very educated people around.I finished biochemistry in school and at 30 i have owned my 4 bed room house for close to 3 years now.

And after meeting and talking with a lot of mmorpg players i know i am at best just average.I have met doctors who play this games.

If you are James Bond in real life and fight super criminals all day and sleep with supermodels -hey off you go and go save the world rather then chat with us "losers".

You have a major point there. It has been mentioned ever since the fist ever Arcade game came out. Kids and adults would spend 4hours, 8 hours, 12 hours, even 24 hours, at an Arcade playing their favorite game. Anyone remember the Pac-man craze? Then the Atari console came out and same thing. Then the Commodore 64 and IBM PC Jr personal comptuers came out and same thing. Then the Nintendo console came out, and same thing. Then the Playstation console came out and the same thing. Then UO, and EQ came out and the same thing.

This point is just as brutal, and major, with every single other MMORPG, RPG, console game, and computer game.... not just SWG. It is better brought up on the MMORPG.com general forum. image

BTW most gamers have achieved in real life. They want an escape from real life. That is why they live a virtual life be it playing Metal Gear Solid for 2 months straight, EQ non-stop for 1 year straight, or any other computer game with all their free time.

there won't be any significant change in that area until the GCW redo which is AFTER JTLS and after the combat revamp.

Ok to answer the initial question...

Those who enter any MMORPG without a goal will find themselves dissapointed. The reason MMORPG's are soo open ended, is because the Devs want the Players to create their character. Every Player needs to make their own goal(s), it is like real life that way.

To many the "End of Game" is when they have played it for a few years and sombody else has made somthing better to play.

I must admit, you do need to have more time per week to play this type of game than a game where you can save the world at a point and get back later.

There are two key things you can learn in and while playing these games. Patience, because mastering somthing will take a while. (that one is a little week). But then there is Discipline, if you don't set boundaries with this type of game, you can "waste" your life, and sadly many people do, but it is very possible to use balance. That's why Im excited about Guild Wars, because it gives us busy people somthing that takes less time.

HAHA! Yep you got that right. Although I did enjoy Star Wars Galaxies greatly, being a Star Wars fan and all. At the end of the day there wasn't much of a Star Wars feel to it. Other than the Locations and species, it was just another MMORPG. If it wasn't for the friends and PVP I wouldn't have lasted as long as I did.

The end game for me was when I got the message "You have successfully uninstalled Star Wars Galaxies"image What the other poster said "Unlocking Jedi and making a grand on eBay" works for most as well. image
