I played the Beta a few months ago and was not very impressed. I was wondering if the game has changed much since then?
1. Have they ironed out the bugs?
2. The game game worth it?
3. Would you suggest I wait for WoW or EQ2?
4. Are there any major issues that plague the game?
5. Did they ever put Castle Sieges in the game?
Thanks

1. Have they ironed out the bugs? A few, but there are some still lingering. Not game stopping bugs, I never had trouble playing the game.
2. The game game worth it? Not really, unless you can stand the terrible grind to get to the fun part at later levels.
3. Would you suggest I wait for WoW or EQ2? Of course. Lineage II requires a long-term committment if you want to enjoy it for what it's main quality offers. By that time, EQ2 and WoW will be out.
4. Are there any major issues that plague the game? 3rd party programs, BOTS, and unfriendly, selfish, rude, and inconsiderate players (they are a minority, but they are there and when you come across them you will want to shut off your computer and do something else.)
5. Did they ever put Castle Sieges in the game? Yes, in Chronicle I that came out in June. I have not seen a Castel Siege up close, I am not sure if there is lag or if it works alright. I am interested, but I cannot devote the time and effort it takes to get to the level I need to be for Castle Siege participation.
Overall, I would not recommend Lineage II, only because of the time sink and grind, and because EQ2 and Wow are coming. Otherwise, I am always trying to give the advice to players that it is good to try as many games as you can (or can afford). It'll help narrow down what you really like and you'll find out what you hate about mmorpgs. After I played Lineage II, I found out that I really hate cheaters.
Thanks dude - this is pretty much what I thought.
Looks like I'll be saving some money!
i can vouch for it...
to answer your questions...
1. "Have they ironed out the bugs"... well from beta to today they have probably "ironed out" roughly 90% of the bugs... i currently play the game and i hardly ever see a bug, and even when i do its just a minor thing... like stated above "there are no game stopping bugs"... also pretty much all the remaining bugs are ironed out in the upcoming C2 update...
2. "The game worth it" IMO yes... but only if its right for you... the 2 main things people dont like about the game are having to actually work for your level's (aka Grinding) and free PvP... the thing is, as long as you can put up with these for awhile, Lineage 2 will hold you... unlike alot of games currently out there, L2 revolves aroung end game content, meaning if you can get by the 1st part, you will be hooked... i 1st played Lineage 2 over a year ago in Korean Open Beta, and i still play today and have fun doing so...
3. "would you suggest i wait for WoW or EQ2" i personally will not be playing either WoW or EQ2, so IMO i would say no... do you want to know why though? because WoW and EQ2 are carebear =_=... WoW and EQ2 = casual gaming where the hardcore players get ripped off (hence the "rest" system in WoW) with little to no PvP... i like to take my gaming with a little risk and reward... if you want a false sense of gratification for hitting max level in under a montht then by all means, wait for WoW/EQ2... oh btw, L2 graphics OWN WoW and EQ2 graphics =P... (EQ2 may have better textures, but the models have NOTHING on L2...)
4. "are there any major issues that plague the game"... yes there are a few things that are currently plagueing the game... two of the major ones at the moment are Customer Service (ya, its pretty bad o_0) and the chinese botters (however the number has been dropping ALOT lately with the closing down of Lineage 2 adena sales on e-bay and the fact that not everybody is a newb who needs money anymore)... aside from that there arent really any major issues...
5. "did they ever put castle sieges in"... yes they have... and let me tell you ^^ Castle Sieging = funnest freaking thing you will ever do in an MMORPG... you may see alot of games these days offering similar sieges (like iRO and those WoE's) but Lineage 2 has BY FAR the best sieging and best rewards for doing so... remember, Lineage 1 was the 1st game to have the large scale Castle Sieging...
now here's one you're probably wondering too though, "how is the lag during sieges" the lag is suprisingly low... i run on an AMD Duron 1.1ghz, 768 DDR, and geforce2 32mb, and i can run siege fine... this is due to a graphic system that automatically tones down the game during sieges...
overall Lineage 2 is a game with its faults... however if you can look by those faults into the core game and really get yourself immersed, it will be one of the, if not THE best games you have played...
the main reason you hear people complaining is because they cant deal with having to put effort into their level's... Lineage 2 is now the 2nd biggest MMORPG in the world (2nd to Lineage 1 =P) and most of that is because Koreans dont mind the effort... Americans have grown used to instant gratification, skill based systems, where you can max out in a day and be "uber leet" like the rest... its deffinatly only a game for the thick skinned...
one last thing... Chronicle 2 is making the game alot more casual player friendly with a bunch of "mini-games" including treasure hunting, and gambling of all sorts... it is also bringing in more character customization both appearence-wise and stat-wise... so even if you would only consider yourself a "Casual Gamer", Lineage 2 may now even be able to cater to you...

BigPeeler:
Couple of arguments to your statements.
There is a big difference between "working" for your levels and "grinding" for levels. Having to put out effort implies a challenge. Something in your way that is difficult to get around. Lineage 2 doesn't have that, it has constant pounding of weak creatures for money and experience, over and over and over and over again. AKA, "Grinding" for levels. I have no doubt that if people had to "work" for their levels due to challenging AI/Opponents, it'd be another story. However, Lineage 2 is just a grind fest.
In respect to the size. Lineage 2 is one of the largest games mainly due to the Asian population, but it isn't because the Koreans are more willing to work for their characters. It is for two primary reasons:
1) The lack of available games in that region of the world. Yes there is a significant number, but when you compare the amount of MMORPGs that support (or were created in) Asian languages, compared to English MMORPGS, there is no contest. The US market is spread out amoung 30 or 40 games, where as the Asian market has roughly a dozen or so, if that.
2) The culture. I can't vouch for what it's like over there, but I know the culture is drastically different than what we see in America. Chances are their time managment and social differences make it more rewarding to play through Lineage than something more balanced in terms of time investment. This is also supported in looking at FFXI, where there is more of a focus on long term gaming sessions rather than 2 or 3 hour sessions.
Finally, graphics are in the Eye of the Beholder on this issue.
Actually there are like 200+ MMORPGs in S. Korea alone from what I've researched, many of which are not known to westerners. Most of these games' target market is China, Japan, other SE Asian coutries where there are larger population base.
It's not that there are not many games in East Asia. It got more to do with the fact that they somehow decided to stick with one title at a time. It's as if they collectively choose one title that's most appealing to them and stick with.
Another example to illustrate how their market is different from ours:
Their market is not dependent on mass media review peer. They can care less of what some few college drop-out game geeks, who somehow decides to band together and think they have some "expert" advice to offer, has to say about a game or two.
The funny thing is these breed of people have so many games to review at once and they know, you know, I know that they have to jump from game to game on millisecond interval to review them all, and yet people who read those retarded reviews go by what they have to say and repeat after them. It's like listening 20th century fox unorchestrated grabastic amphibian chant of idiocy.
One more thing to note:
NA has reached unholy level of obsession in ranking games these days. There are so many games that are coming and company/its fans are trying to bring each others down that they don't even know they are seeding deep sense of disgust with industry in unhealthy way.
For God's sake, play the damn game and if you like it stick with it if you don't get the hell out of it. As simple as that. Why the hell do you care what other has to say. What are you not good enough to judge a game by yourself? For God's sake it's just a game you freak, not a rocket science.
One thing I like about koreans and general korean gaming culture is that they are smart enough to realize that all these business of review is joke. It is irrevelant to them. While doing so, they have other way to show how a game is good or not, it's not by being vocal about it in some obscure site or fanboy site or attacking each others, but by taking the game seriously - I mean REALLY seriously and playing it to death and being excessively good at it.
Take Blizzard's Starcraft for instance. People that understand this game don't preach "this-and-this-and-that-is-lacking-so-the-game-is-flop" or "this-and-that-is-there 2+4+6=12 so-the-game-rocks" kind of logic that only requires one or two neurons to process. Instead, they prove how good or bad the game is by their own demonstration, in another word, by the way they are playing.
The way they are playing is itself the testmony of the depth of the game or goodness or badness of the game.
This kind of feat cannot be achieved by those peers who call themself "expert" jumping from a game to another in blink of seconds unless they are some kind of genius who could make monkeys to do calculus and come out with conclusion that trees are more beautiful than flowers based on mathematical relationship that exists between trees and flowers.
Now, that being said, let's look at NA. There are undoubtfully very good dedicated l33t players in NA and Europe as well for games like Counter-Strike, Starcraft, Unreal 2003, EQ, DAoC, you name it. No doubt about it.
Some are exceedingly better than their peers in Asia. The problem is not that they don't have these clan like dedicated hardcore players, it's rather that nobody cares whether they are there or not. No main stream game news media portals are interested hearing their story. They are constantly cattered around casuals, bi-pedal thumb sucking noobs, as if they are there to represent them faithfully and indiscriminately. They constantly infuse us with the idea that we are "casuals", "carebears", "let's-not-take-the-game-too-seriously-crowns". "we-should-all-be-anti-l33t-dolls".
They have no clue what these dedicated players can mean to a game and its community.
I tried the Beta version, and I'm sure that it has improved (it had to with all the bugs). The graphics were good, and I liked the nearly-naked female elves. It reminded me a lot of SWG and EQ type games, but I didn't care for those either. I've been playing DAOC for the past three years, and I prefer it to L2.
The Asian community is definitely different from the American-European cultures. I prefer the latter for many reasons.
For God's sake, play the damn game and if you like it stick with it if you don't get the f**ck out of it. As simple as that. Why the f***Ck do you care what other has to say. What are you not good enough to judge a game by yourself? For God's sake it's just a game you freak.
OUCH!
Actually - the problem with that statement is you throw away $49.99 and your Game-CD turns into a coaster even if you just "try" the game. Would be nice if they let you download the game for free and just pay the monthly fees. Less feeling of being ripped off if the game is as bad as everyone claims it is.
Thanks anyway - but if you're representative of how "good" the game is, then I'm passing.
comments like that are all u see in L2. alot of immature players on it. the racial slurs and swearing even turned my stomach, and i have a garbage mouth. its almost breathtaking the way L2 managed to find every perfect idiot in the gaming world and packed them onto 8 servers...simply amazing.
i mean of course there are some cool ppl on the game, but they are the minority.
the game itself isnt anything u havent seen b4 if u have played a few other mmos. its all been done b4. (and in most games better i might add).
my 2 biggest beefs are the economy and the lvl grinding. although the lvls wouldnt be so bad if u didnt have to spend 90% of your time killin lower lvl creatures fast to make an insane amount of money just for the crappy equip. its almost as if the designers are encouraging EBAYers. its really the only way to get decent equip in an acceptable amount of time. but if u spend 10+ hours per day on an mmo, this one is for you.
biggest waste of $50 ive ever spent. ....although there was that Flowbee (tm)

I know there is a significantly greater number of games available in Asia than in the US, but as you pointed out, the player-base is more focused. That's what I was talking about, because if you notice, there are a lot more htan 30-40 US MMORPGs as well.
Also, most people don't truly care what other people say, they're looking for the collective opinion. If 75% of the people posting somewhere believe a game is crap, most people will think the game is crap and move on. That's normal, because if 75% of decent sized forum (such as this one) think a game is crap, it probably is crap. No need to waste several hours when you can just lose 5 minutes.
As for the rest of the post, welcome to America and Capitalism, the one place where you don't get a tee-shirt.
Wisdom is also in the Eye of the Beholder. After-all think about it, what if everybody bought every game they ever thought was interesting, rather than looking at reviews? Well, let's see, for one 90% of the gaming market would crash and burn because everone would be too far in debt to buy new games. Two, we wouldn't have developers would good names because all the crappy @$$ games would cause people to instantly hate every other game developer simply because they created a game (trust me, some games are so bad they cause you to lose faith in the entire industry).
Furthermore, how in the hell do the Koreans single out individual games without depending on reviews and comments from their peers. Answer, they don't, it is literally impossible, ergo, they have some major dependence on reviews and peer comments.
P.S.
What the hell is with that Blizzard comment? Sales in another country don't do jack to improve it's image in another country.
You mean every perfect idiot in North America packed into 8 servers.
Lol, the Koreans have around 30-50 servers alone.

Ive been playing L2 for around 5-6 months and i can give you an easy way to decide whether you should get this game or not..... if you are a person that enjoys solo play, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME, unless you would like to rely on PK or PvP to entertain yourself, if this is true then i retract my previous statement. If your into grouping or into guild play then this game is definitely for you. Being in a guild opens so many possibilities for different things.
Solo Play=dont buy L2
Group/Guild Play=buy L2
