I have played the game for two days now, and I know theres many of you that swear this game is great, and the problems are being caused by this or that, but I am done. Performance is awful, Content is boring, and I don't know if its just me but I don't pay for MMOs when they are secretly single player games in disguise. "revolutionary combat" = you have too mash 3 buttons instead of 1. I mean COME ON are people accually gonna pay for this? As far as the graphics, people don't always understand that sometimes less is more. Loading times are terrible, I mean REAL bad. The games story isn't bad but thats the only thing I think the game has. Sorry for blabbing but I had to get it out. It makes me mad that the people that still buy and subscribe to these unfinished, half arse games. It just allows different companies to release utter crap.

Firstly after reading the OP sounds like he is venting his frustration that a game that has up played itself a great deal, and he was obviously looking forwards to diving into and enjoying, played beta and found out that its unfinished, unpolished, overdone in some areas, neglected in others and just in short isnt the game that was promised or hoped for. Now i see all the negativitiy from people who really dont want to find out that maybe AoC will flop. I personaly hope it doesnt, every time a game suceeds the genre becomes a more viable avenue for game creation and investment. And yes AoC does offer a twist on the norm that has been seen in MMO's for a while now. But it is a bit....i dunno bullheaded to really honestly make excuses for a game that promises so much is not delivering, stress beta or just a tutorial, whatever excuse you use does not change the fact that its not what was promised. Not only that, but what does it tell u about the people behind the game if they are willing to start a 50,000 player beta and they cant even deliver a functional version of the game...its only like what 15 days from release and this is what they showcase? I too was looking forwards to AoC, but a few good games have died and been passed up because of the same issues that AoC is delivering to its potential market. Im sorry to those of you who want to play the game no matter what state its released in, and are offended when other play the game and are upset that Funcom just hasnt got a product ready for the shelves, and it just doesnt do what its supposed to. Imagine if you were a kid and your daddy bought you a bike, nice shiny box etc...does this does that amazing best bike in the world....and you open it and find out it only comes with one wheel. While im not saying buyers/gamers are children (arguable if u read MMO forums) but its the same idea....you got led into hoping for something good and amazing....and no matter what your dad tells u...the bike is still missing a wheel and wont work. Sorry for the wall o text. Peace folks! hope AoC delievers, cuz i would love to get in on the action if it survives and settles enough to play.
The 'revolutionary' Combat system got boring almost immediately for me.
The loading times for zones and instances are just insane they really need to sort that out before release.
Performance is abysmal hopefully the release client is a much better performer.
Level design is too linear and too small for my personal tastes.
Animations are nothing like I expected, maybe better in retail? if not then they need a complete rework.
and well its all just a bit dull, hard to put my finger on it, but definetly did not grab me like it should in the initial levels, which is probably the worst thing, as other problems can be fixed for retail but initial level progression will not be changed.

I think most ppl in this forum actually wants AOC to succeed. WAR does defenatly not look like a world i would like to spend days, months in, tbh. Its just, for us who didnt got a key, its very depressing seeing the same story told again. We see like 25% say the game blows, 25% saying the game is great and then the rest saying its a " Ok" playable thing, which they "maybe"gonna give a shot on release.
As for the "this is Beta, all gonna get better in Retail". I just dont see this a good marketing. Why would you release a NDA lifted Beta ( very close to release date) and getting so-so publicity, if they in fact have a much better product in store? I mean if lvl 20-40 is so much better, why didnt they let ppl test this part of the game? Not a big deal imo...

QFT. ITS BETA asshole! People who go into beta expecting a polished game need to learn what the hell beta means. I am really glad to see ignorant jerks like you not going to AoC. Don't let the door hit you on the way out!
Three weeks from launch isnt beta. The final build to launch on the DVD's has already been made and processed. To be honest, it is might likely not even the current build on the CB. I would suspect a HUGE patch on launch day, clogging up the login and patch servers, and generally causing a huge mess.
Even then.. it is too late to fix any major gameplay mechanics, or deeply rooted programming errors, in the game before launch or even at launch. So all these issues currently in the game will be part of the initial patching and weeks after. Which will in effect introduce more gameplay issues.
Happens in every game that has "major bugs" in beta this close to launch.
All thats happening right now is damage control, and to show the most polished part of the game. They cant even show the first 20 levels, which would be a better way to market the game.
It isnt even stress testing. Some of you act as if these server farms dont have ratings just like your pc. They know how much they can handle. Its more like stress testing on the playerbase patience, to see how much network side-effects of pushing things to the brim <which they know already as to how much> YOU will suffer with and not complain about.
If they were confident in their work, then the entire first tier of gameplay would be there. As it stands, they have around half, or less even, of the first tier. Course you cant blame a company for not wanting unpolished parts of their multi-million dollar project opened up to the masses. Would yield less 50 dollar initial sales, which they NEED to recoup all the production costs. Subs easily pay for maintaining it, but the 50 dollar retail sales is what is needed to pay the bills and keep the current pace.

You won't see me in Warhammer. I don't really enjoy PvP all that much. Furthermore I don't like Warhammers graphical look. So I doubt I will be trying it, unless they do a free trial down the road at some point. But what you won't see me doing is posting how crappy a game it is on the Warhammer forums like my opinion is the only one that matters. Your opinion is the only one that matters...to YOU. But not to me.
See I have played AoC for 2 days also, and I love it. It's not perfect. No game will ever be, but I enjoy it. So as I stated above my opinion is the most important one to me. Enjoy, well whatever it is that you enjoy, I would say it may be trolling?

MMOs are all about the upper levels these days. The first 10 or 20 or 30 levels aren't where the bulk of the long term subscribers are going to be for most of their game playing time so, yes - the real meat of the game should be in the upper levels.
I really didn't like WoW for the first 15 levels (didn't like the art, didn't like the pvp, didn't like the quests and there aren't many buttons available for most classes to push, etc) but I kept hearing "it gets good in the high levels" and... it does.
CoH is a great game in the lower levels - lots of fun in sewer runs, cool quests, get your travel powers quick, etc, but the mid-30s were a crash and the high levels were basically still the same thing as the lower levels but with bigger looking numbers. And so the game failed to hit it big.
I'm not opposed to a game without a warmup period, but then you risk having a CoH where long term players aren't going to feel 'special' or otherwise be compelled to be long term players.
It doesn't sound good for AoC - game release is two weeks away and people are apologizing a lot for bugs and lag. But my main concerns are balance - choppy frame rates, lag and holes in the fabric os space-time usually go away in a few months. Bad pvp balance and class inequities don't usually get fixed quickly and they almost always lead to bad gaming experiences for me.
Avery don't hog the Troll Spray...we could use it over on the War boards..its madness...*lays down some instant troll killing traps in hopes to help the AoC community out*

Holy cow am i happy i didnt look forward to either wowhammer or age of gonads, After p[laying almost every p2p mmo out there most of em for a nice duration of time to give em a chance, I hung em up, i had no intentions to either, a friend of mine sent me a guildwars game as a present, i thought it was gonna be crap but holy crow i am spoiled, the game threw me right into a story, theres no monthly fee, you can make a maxed out guy in the pvp right from the start, I guess im posting here in general that is what happens in p2p monthly billing games, you gwet fanbois eating it up, and others gettin pooped on for other reasons, the rest of the mmo's out now seem like crap after p[laying guildwars, and its frikkin huge and theres no monthly fee, i dont understand the monthly fee thing at all anymore.

If fact many of the opinions I have and share about AoC are back by many people. I come here for one reason, to get both sides of the story. I don't get that from just listening to one source. Anyone that tries to squelch someone elses opinion, or drive someone off if they don't agree, can stick it. The community doesn't need jerks like that, and for *me* it prevents me from accomplishing my reason for being here, seeing both sides.
If you don't like someones post, ignore it. If you can't ignore it, then as you say, thats your problem, not mine. You got a problem with a post, report it and move on.

Firstly after reading the OP sounds like he is venting his frustration that a game that has up played itself a great deal, and he was obviously looking forwards to diving into and enjoying, played beta and found out that its unfinished, unpolished, overdone in some areas, neglected in others and just in short isnt the game that was promised or hoped for. Now i see all the negativitiy from people who really dont want to find out that maybe AoC will flop. I personaly hope it doesnt, every time a game suceeds the genre becomes a more viable avenue for game creation and investment. And yes AoC does offer a twist on the norm that has been seen in MMO's for a while now. But it is a bit....i dunno bullheaded to really honestly make excuses for a game that promises so much is not delivering, stress beta or just a tutorial, whatever excuse you use does not change the fact that its not what was promised. Not only that, but what does it tell u about the people behind the game if they are willing to start a 50,000 player beta and they cant even deliver a functional version of the game...its only like what 15 days from release and this is what they showcase? I too was looking forwards to AoC, but a few good games have died and been passed up because of the same issues that AoC is delivering to its potential market. Im sorry to those of you who want to play the game no matter what state its released in, and are offended when other play the game and are upset that Funcom just hasnt got a product ready for the shelves, and it just doesnt do what its supposed to. Imagine if you were a kid and your daddy bought you a bike, nice shiny box etc...does this does that amazing best bike in the world....and you open it and find out it only comes with one wheel. While im not saying buyers/gamers are children (arguable if u read MMO forums) but its the same idea....you got led into hoping for something good and amazing....and no matter what your dad tells u...the bike is still missing a wheel and wont work. Sorry for the wall o text. Peace folks! hope AoC delievers, cuz i would love to get in on the action if it survives and settles enough to play.
The OP does have some valid points.
The 'revolutionary' Combat system got boring almost immediately for me.
The loading times for zones and instances are just insane they really need to sort that out before release.
Performance is abysmal hopefully the release client is a much better performer.
Level design is too linear and too small for my personal tastes.
Animations are nothing like I expected, maybe better in retail? if not then they need a complete rework.
and well its all just a bit dull, hard to put my finger on it, but definetly did not grab me like it should in the initial levels, which is probably the worst thing, as other problems can be fixed for retail but initial level progression will not be changed.
On the whole dissapointing to say the least.

Warhammer seemed like it was for 8 year olds. That's why I cancelled my Beta account and uninstalled it from my machine. Dumbed down version of WoW if ya ask me. If you like that crap good for you. But you played to level 13. Basically a tuturoial. It's like just playing a starting area in WoW and nothing else. And it's beta...and that's not an excuse...it's the truth. I think most ppl in this forum actually wants AOC to succeed. WAR does defenatly not look like a world i would like to spend days, months in, tbh. Its just, for us who didnt got a key, its very depressing seeing the same story told again. We see like 25% say the game blows, 25% saying the game is great and then the rest saying its a " Ok" playable thing, which they "maybe"gonna give a shot on release.
As for the "this is Beta, all gonna get better in Retail". I just dont see this a good marketing. Why would you release a NDA lifted Beta ( very close to release date) and getting so-so publicity, if they in fact have a much better product in store? I mean if lvl 20-40 is so much better, why didnt they let ppl test this part of the game? Not a big deal imo...

Three weeks from launch isnt beta. The final build to launch on the DVD's has already been made and processed. To be honest, it is might likely not even the current build on the CB. I would suspect a HUGE patch on launch day, clogging up the login and patch servers, and generally causing a huge mess.
Even then.. it is too late to fix any major gameplay mechanics, or deeply rooted programming errors, in the game before launch or even at launch. So all these issues currently in the game will be part of the initial patching and weeks after. Which will in effect introduce more gameplay issues.
Happens in every game that has "major bugs" in beta this close to launch.
All thats happening right now is damage control, and to show the most polished part of the game. They cant even show the first 20 levels, which would be a better way to market the game.
It isnt even stress testing. Some of you act as if these server farms dont have ratings just like your pc. They know how much they can handle. Its more like stress testing on the playerbase patience, to see how much network side-effects of pushing things to the brim <which they know already as to how much> YOU will suffer with and not complain about.
If they were confident in their work, then the entire first tier of gameplay would be there. As it stands, they have around half, or less even, of the first tier. Course you cant blame a company for not wanting unpolished parts of their multi-million dollar project opened up to the masses. Would yield less 50 dollar initial sales, which they NEED to recoup all the production costs. Subs easily pay for maintaining it, but the 50 dollar retail sales is what is needed to pay the bills and keep the current pace.
See I have played AoC for 2 days also, and I love it. It's not perfect. No game will ever be, but I enjoy it. So as I stated above my opinion is the most important one to me. Enjoy, well whatever it is that you enjoy, I would say it may be trolling?

MMOs are all about the upper levels these days. The first 10 or 20 or 30 levels aren't where the bulk of the long term subscribers are going to be for most of their game playing time so, yes - the real meat of the game should be in the upper levels.
I really didn't like WoW for the first 15 levels (didn't like the art, didn't like the pvp, didn't like the quests and there aren't many buttons available for most classes to push, etc) but I kept hearing "it gets good in the high levels" and... it does.
CoH is a great game in the lower levels - lots of fun in sewer runs, cool quests, get your travel powers quick, etc, but the mid-30s were a crash and the high levels were basically still the same thing as the lower levels but with bigger looking numbers. And so the game failed to hit it big.
I'm not opposed to a game without a warmup period, but then you risk having a CoH where long term players aren't going to feel 'special' or otherwise be compelled to be long term players.
It doesn't sound good for AoC - game release is two weeks away and people are apologizing a lot for bugs and lag. But my main concerns are balance - choppy frame rates, lag and holes in the fabric os space-time usually go away in a few months. Bad pvp balance and class inequities don't usually get fixed quickly and they almost always lead to bad gaming experiences for me.
Avery don't hog the Troll Spray...we could use it over on the War boards..its madness...*lays down some instant troll killing traps in hopes to help the AoC community out*

Holy cow am i happy i didnt look forward to either wowhammer or age of gonads, After p[laying almost every p2p mmo out there most of em for a nice duration of time to give em a chance, I hung em up, i had no intentions to either, a friend of mine sent me a guildwars game as a present, i thought it was gonna be crap but holy crow i am spoiled, the game threw me right into a story, theres no monthly fee, you can make a maxed out guy in the pvp right from the start, I guess im posting here in general that is what happens in p2p monthly billing games, you gwet fanbois eating it up, and others gettin pooped on for other reasons, the rest of the mmo's out now seem like crap after p[laying guildwars, and its frikkin huge and theres no monthly fee, i dont understand the monthly fee thing at all anymore.

If fact many of the opinions I have and share about AoC are back by many people. Is it my fault alot of trolls in the past just happen to be newly created accounts with that one flame post.

NDA breaks, game hate for the sake of it piss me the fuck off. I find many people who have issues with this game lacking in presentation in a constructive way. I equally find posts that speak of issues with the game to be sound when put across 1. Respectfully and 2. Constructively.

I come here for one reason, to get both sides of the story. I don't get that from just listening to one source. Anyone that tries to squelch someone elses opinion, or drive someone off if they don't agree, can stick it. The community doesn't need jerks like that, and for *me* it prevents me from accomplishing my reason for being here, seeing both sides.
If you don't like someones post, ignore it. If you can't ignore it, then as you say, thats your problem, not mine. You got a problem with a post, report it and move on.
And on a final note... one can disagree with an opinion but still respect it. At least, in theory. I haven't seen it practiced very often here. Perhaps if people spend less time trying to criticize other perspectives, we can confirm its existence.
