He's leaving to become community manager for the SOE game Free Realms.
This is a very bad sign for the NGE. Sure, storyteller can do some things, but now Vader, Leia, Luke, et all will forever remain in their places where you only interact with them once in the themeparks.
Another bad sign: Someone is leaving and NOT being replaced. That is not growth in the team, it's a reduction in force.
I expect other Dev departures soon. I expect they will begin breaking up the NGE team as they reassign them to other projects. This is all expected in a prelude to closure.

I am not surprised by this in the least. Pex was probably the only Dev who actually played the game.

I'm surprised Pex hung on for as long as he did. The devs seemed to have a thing about screwing over roleplayers, what with all the Uncle Owen hate.
Pex was a good guy. I enjoyed interacting with him on several occasions at Ahazi RP events.
CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

Pex leaving is like having the last decent person walking out.
For all its worth, he's the only one left on SOE's SWG team I had any respect for.
The last of the Trackers
This seems to show FreeRealms is moving along rather well. Seems alot of folks liked him but I don't blame him for staying around when they continually give the palyers functions and abilities that he did. ...makes you kind of worthless at the shop. Does this spell the end of SWG, in my opinion, no. And no, I have no facts to back that up, its just a guess like everyone else.

I doubt it signals the end. What it does signal is the path towards the end. Like an arcade not replacing broke machines and losing their prize ticket counter. It signals designed neglect and obvious disconcern for what the players wanted and liked.
Even if none of what I said agrees with you - I doubt anyone can say that losing player events is a good thing.
Well... looks like the beginning of the sunset of swg ... cause when the guy in charge of roleplay leaves and they dont replace him it IS a signal of the end quite simply put, being as the the game is a MMORoleplayingGame...
Its a non brainer to have that aspect in the business model... kinda makes sense to invest and grow the game in that area surely? no?
Nobody in business is inexpendable, there are plenty of people who can replace the dev giving no reason for somebody to not replace that role in question.
What I find interesting is what he didnt say in the post, - it was mainly directed toward gameplayers. There didnt appear to be any "hooah" in respect to the future of SWG and any mention of the future was just a pleasant overview - non committal. To be more clear, after reading it I felt something was missing.
With SOE disapearing back up its own pipe and drawn back into the "motherships" control. I just wonder what SWG is turning into... for the future and how that impacts gamers who are playing SOE's games.
If anything what the vets have been predicting is coming to fruition.. taking its time .. but this isnt just a small mmorpg company, its a massive corporation with reserves...... but as they say ...if you fail to learn the lessons of the past you are set to repeat them.
"Obi-Wan Kenobi: We were decieved by a lie; we all were. It appears that SOE is behind everything, including the NGE! After the death of CU, the NGE became their new apprentice."
The NGE has no idea of "Roleplay" and now they just made it official.
Assuming it was the strong (and from $OE unexpected ) Roleplaying playerbase that keept him in position that long.

Pex is such a sweetie. He has remained calm and decent and cheerful and always helpful through the very worst of times.
I wish him luck.
Pex is indeed a stand-up guy. He deserves better than SOE to be honest.
Wish him luck where ever he lands.

All the luck and my best wish to Pex for Free Realms actually.
A sad day for SWG well not as sad as the NGE but still sad. And it doesn't show the sunset of SWG nor the road to the end, it just show that they actually intend to continu putting as much paying tool as possible to have all events automatized. Can we blame them well yea I guess we could but not likely either. I am sure Pex will as well be able to make other players quite happy and he's probably more needed there.
So cheer guys! The end isn't there yet and still seems far from it. After all there is worse game still running around and they don't close up either!
Pex set up some pretty good events on Bloodfin back in the day, also props to TimothyV best CSR SWG ever had period, and Q3PO!!!, best community manager SWG ever saw. (Sorry Kelly Knox, you got in to late)
TimV gave me every one of the CSR badges...
Because I was audacious enough to be a BOTHAN Jedi... He he he.
Ditto that. Pex was a cool dude. And he was always there to help you out when you needed him. I know he helped me out with events more time than I could thank him for.
SWG? Pull the plug already!
Pex was always a standup guy that has always been respected. Well looks like the money axe keeps moving on for SWG.
People move on. But what should be of concern to the fanbois is that a whole aspect of gameplay (supported events) is ending with his departure.
And he isn't being replaced.
So, SOE isn't willing to provide any event support to SWG when they do to their other games...
It seems that a lot of the good people at SOE have either left because of (or in the aftermath of) the NGE, or they were axed for taking a stand for honesty and integrity.
I believe that includes Raph, Tiggs, Green-Marine, now Pex, and even Jeff who has now taken a good look at what went on and has had a remarkable change of heart. Am I missing anyone? There may be some good folks still hanging on try to make a difference in a small way I suppose. I don't want to paint everyone with the same brush.
It's sad to see the good people leave, and the dude calling all the wrong shots and his "yes-men" stay. Honestly though, with all that went on, I'd have a hard time working in an environment like that. Management that you don't have faith in on one side, and a ton of hurt and angry customers on the other. Just plain nasty.
As it was, my third account main is a Bothan...he was a MBE/MChef.
My main account "third" slot is is his brother, a spy!

Not that the game is/was in good shape anyway, but this certainly doesn't do the game any good at all.
Not sure how many lives this cat of a game has, but SWG must've used most of them already. I think this nearly took one all by itself, tbh.
Last of the SWG launch team to leave if I am not mistaken. Was surprised he didn't move on with the rest of them shortly after the JTL launch.
Then again not as many of them left as first assumed as some of the developers were moved to other games within SOE.
Oh and certainly thumbs up on Q3PO being the best community rep. Then again a lot of the initial launch team were great, just they weren't really given the time to do what was needed.
No more player events , its will not be long now.
I also think we'd have missed a ton of drama and unresolved frustration if SOE and LEC had stuck with their original plan to fix the original game with the CURB, instead of beginning to scrap the original game and it's playerbase in favour of more broken, less immersive versions of the game, and a player base that was busy enjoying another game that happened to function well.
Ah well, what if
Agree.. Even loser games that are dying do player events.
If SOE really wanted to put SWG into the hands of the players they'd do pre CU.
