How is this proof there are 2 different clients being used? Now if there was some kind of official statement from the company I may believe it. But just pasting two links from someone not connected to the company proves nothing. I also find it funny no one is listing the different client versions. Now am not saying it isn't true but I will say it is very hard to believe from someone that has been beta testing games from Ultima Online beta to current times. I just never seen a company pull anything like running two different clients in a beta. Sure I have seen internal clients run but no tester would ever touch that until it went to the beta server. Sorry I just have a hard time believeing all this two different clients are being used. Now get the company to verify this and I will become a believer with you guys.

When the hell is Funcom gonna say something!?! It's their freaking game and we have beta testers sticking up for them when they are silent. Is this the kinda support they will be providing in the future. Do they even care that this open beta is full of bugs and really just killing anyone that wants to believe this game is going to be worth playing. I know personally they have lost a handful of customers today. I've been posting my experiences and trying to be balanced buy while it may not be apparent I'm a fan. 4 buddies of mine however decided to check the game out based on my encouragement. Two are from wow and two from eq2. I was hoping to get these buddies back together but alas they 3 of them tried the beta and say it is a piece of shit. They didn't even make it to the town. The 4th one never even tried it cause of what the others said.... I know this client is a piece of crap because I played in the PvP beta and didn't have anywhere near the number of problems I'm having with this one. Anyway they are making it really hard for anyone to actually like this game.
In response to the highlighted sentence... if people are skipping out on Age of Conan because of barely a day of TESTING an UNFINISHED product, I don't want to play with them anyways. Good riddance, and let those of us who actually want to play the game, play in peace.

you could verify it yourself if you had access to the two different clients.

I downloaded both clients the other day after a reformat, and they are different sizes entirely.

actually CB is a newer client, Casilida, amongst other things are different. What they mean here is more like the OB client is a stresser and they are using this info to update the CB client with. The OB client is over a few servers with many people, there are many more in CB. They empahzised the stressing on the OB servers, where as GB/CB has been more about the bug finding. So naturally they would want to update the Cb client with the info gained so far.

Well thats good for you... However I did want to play with them and while you may have the faith of a priest not everyone does. When we get an open beta 3 weeks before release it is generally pretty much identical to what will be out when the game is released. People form opinions based on first impressions.

however, that is not the case in this situation. FC is not going to use a build that is who-knows-how-old as their final release client.
As for your friends....after release, give them buddy keys.
Lets get this straight, when they say pvp client it is only a small part of the over all client. Not different but taken from the main client and setup for players to try it out. So infact the way I am reading this now is the full game would have the exact same pvp client in it that was used just for pvp. Get it? It is not really 2 different clients. Sure they may have patched it up once or twice but believe me it will be in the full game. Look at it as parts of a program getting patched.....pvp...instances.....food.....fishing, just for examples.
I played OB first day and just couldn't take the crashes and memory leaks going in and out of the game and such even to test the servers was becoming a waste of time. I played the PVP beta weekend and it had some issues but I have to say it ran smoothly for me in the opening places and even around all the pvp folks. I got a constant 64 fps in the starting areas and it ran like a gem. But then in this OB the char. creation screen went black on me the first time then it had trouble loading. After I got up into the gate to start into the first city the game froze. I was getting all sorts of random freezes and such and I do have a very nice PC. So I was like wtf. I will be getting the game or at least playing the early start and if it doesn't work out just sell my game when it gets here.
Anyway I know they were stress testing but this OB test with 50k people has put ALOT of folks out there with negative criticism and even though people say its an old client which I think it is also since the PVP beta client ran 100% better for me. Playing the PVP beta weekend I wanted the game so bad then playing the OB I was hmmm I hope the final game isn't like this and had me think second thoughts. But I think they did mess up with releasing an old build even to stress test because this has put alot of negative media out for them and it will sway some folks who were on the fence and aren't in beta. And the one's who want to play and got in to test it out may be turned off completely. I know it's a stress test but it has been running horribly for some. And that isn't a great first experience.

isn't the context of that excerpt from funcom them trying to figure out how to fix the open beta client?? It doesn't read to me like they are trying to integrate stuff they have learned in open beta into the closed beta client. What they are sayings is that they are patching closed beta with the same code as in open beta in order to track down the problem. This kinda implies that open beta is running newer code then closed beta or why wouldn't they just update the open beta with the code from closed beta?!
There is absolutely no point in using old client if its in such a horrible state. Its extremely hard to login, there are workarounds but still, the current client is in a very bad state.
Fps issue may have been fixed, but crashes havent. Visual artefacts, and bugs riddle the game. Im very surprised how unpolished this game is so close to release. The state of the game is slightly worse then vanguard was right before release.
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.
I'm pretty freaking frustrated right now. After not being able to get the game to load I uninstalled and reinstalled. Seems like there was a lot more patching then I remembered from the first time.. Anyway I'm back good to go and log into my dead character, ok was expected. Something is hosed with my tomb so I can't get it back either. Ok now I'm back in and run around a bit and get in a few fights all is going well and I'm looting and the game freezes up. totally locked. Arg what do you want to be it corrupted itself again...
They really need to add a full file scan like sony has for their games if I have to reinstall again I'm gonna be so upset.
I really don't get fanboys. Why would you give your left nut to defend a game that you haven't even played? I can tell you now that you're going to be in for a rude awakening come May 20th. The excerpt refering to the transfer of code from the OB to the CB it was very specific as what they were trying to recreate. They actually stated that it was a NEW bug that hadn't cropped up, which would indicate that other bugs that are coming up are already known. They then tested the code on the CB to see if it will still be an issue.

I wonder if Funcom and Funimation are the same company, or related somehow... >.> Cause Funimation is responsible for hacking up lots of anime with bad dubs and renamings. <.<

I think it was worth it. He's probably another of the constant trolls we have over here. Someone else to ignore I guess.
Actually, I have posted on this site a couple times before. It was about 4 years ago and I have no idea what my account information is. Anyhoo, being in the AoC beta, I am fascinated to see what people are saying about it. I have never really understood how someone can be all revved up about a game when they barely have any idea how it's going to play.
Heh, with responses like yours I think it is easy to see why I never continued to post on these forums...

If by that you mean "wait until launch to judge" then I completely agree with you. No one should be making their final judgements on a game that has not hit store shelves yet. However, that's how it's like with anything.
I actually won an Open/Closed Beta key with the Fileplanet thing but I don't even want it. I have no desire whatsoever to play this game. Every thing I've seen from both open and closed beta makes me want to run fast from this one.
Hey, if someone wants my code and all, drop me a line. I'll give it to someone else. This offer is only available within 24 hours of this post (so I don't get years of spam)

When we get an open beta 3 weeks before release it is generally pretty much identical to what will be out when the game is released. People form opinions based on first impressions.

Differently from the stalls, this issue does not happening to everyone. This issue is actually new to Open beta. It does not happen on the closed beta. We are patching closed beta with the exact same code / data as we speak, so we can try to find the reason. Be patient and we shall prevail here too "
So I guess that blows away the theory that there is a newer client being used in general beta.... Looks like they are updating general beta with the same client we are using, meaning no doubt that we are running the latest and greatest which they have not yet tested with general beta
actually CB is a newer client, Casilida, amongst other things are different. What they mean here is more like the OB client is a stresser and they are using this info to update the CB client with. The OB client is over a few servers with many people, there are many more in CB. They empahzised the stressing on the OB servers, where as GB/CB has been more about the bug finding. So naturally they would want to update the Cb client with the info gained so far.
isn't the context of that excerpt from funcom them trying to figure out how to fix the open beta client??

Funcom has had a couple of bad releases in the past that they were able to salvage a few months after release. Let's hope they're able to salvage AoC

The excerpt refering to the transfer of code from the OB to the CB it was very specific as what they were trying to recreate. They actually stated that it was a NEW bug that hadn't cropped up, which would indicate that other bugs that are coming up are already known. They then tested the code on the CB to see if it will still be an issue.-----

And, outside of AO, those were?
