I made it to level 10, and like everybody said to do, I went to the dunes and searched for a party.
I searched for 3 hours.
Then I tried Begging, Bribery, and just plain Reasoning.
Still no team.
When people said that I'd have to grind until level 15, I just said screw it, theres much better things to do with my time, and much better games to play.
Heck, even a free game like Rappelz is also a grindfest but has 10x more teaming at lower levels than this game.
If the game sucks from level 1-15, the game just sucks. A good game is not supposed to have ANY sucky parts, and this one has a big sucky chunk.
It also sucked a big chunk of change out of my pocket.
So I'm sorry if I offended a hardcore Final Fanatic or 5 out there with this post, but not everything that Square-Enix makes is gold. And you'll probably try to pick apart and "reason" your way around that statement too. If you're planning on attempting that, dont. I have a counter-argument for every argument you have and it will just cause a flamewar.
P.S. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY!

LoL, Well to be honest I never ever went to the dunes any lower then 13. To be honest its very easy to solo around your own nation til lvl 12. In fact its a great way to make a nice chunk of gil to level that job.
After 12 I ussually gear up and head to the dunes. I kill along the way til I get to the Highlands. In which by that time I am already lvl 13. Next I seek and chill killing things around the area til 1 of 2 things happen. I get a party or I hit 14/15. After that I head to the Dunes and chill near the outpost. Now around this time I will do one of 2 things, Wait or make a party.
Idiot!
You need to realize you are coming into this game way late, most players have almost all their jobs maxed out and doing their own things. Not many new players show up and as I said the existing players there isn't a huge amount that need to go back to the dunes. The dunes is the worst place you want to get the hell out of there while you can and never come back, some people quickly level all their jobs to 19-20 so they won't have to return.
I've been out of the game for a long while, but I keep up on it since it is one of my favorite MMOs I've played. You will never get a party system so perfect like that at least not in this age. I'm sure this can be said and possible you went at a bad time of day or bad day of the week. If you have no patience, this game is not for you. You will wait 2-3hrs before you get a party sometimes, you just need to find other things you can do and have fun. Even when I waited for a party I found fun or went and farmed some items I needed. If you are a final fantasy fan you already get gripped in to the world and really the only thing that kicks you out is when you get to the end game and do it over and over and over again.
There is a lot more added to the game since I've played I'm sure there is a crap load of stuff to do now they are good at adding content for everyone. FFXI is a massive time sink no argument there if you don't enjoy it, don't play it, but don't sit there and scream it sucks cause you can't find a party...
Yep the dunes pretty much suck balls. I myself will most likely never be going back there. I have all the jobs I need to lvl to at least 25 atm except for bst but I don't need a pt for that one. I guess this game just wasn't for you or what I would like to think is you just started a little too late is all. I remember when I was first going threw the dunes as war, mnk, and pld the problem I had was there was too many people there and not enough camps but that was back in fall of 2003.
This was a good game back about 4 years ago when you could get a party before you LFG (depending on your class). But yeah about 2 years ago i deleted my character with a few high levels on it not knowing i would come back to play again. When i talked to SE about restoring that character they were unable to. So i decided to start from scratch i got to 25 no problem. Trying to find someone to help get the Kazham keys proved to be my reason for quitting forever.
dont waist my time
Many of my friends say every server is different, so I can only speak for my server however.
Diabolos is live and kicking many, many people still play at all times of the day.
The great thing about FFXI is that if you had too many players all the camps were taken, now there are JUST enough players to find a party and not have to look for hours for a camp.
The game is all about team work and community, if you don't want those things then your playing the wrong game.
You wanna solo grind to level 100000?
Try WoW. Its not a bad game, its just vastly easier and in my, and many other people's opinion much shallower game.
I personally have achieved over 550 levels so far in this game.
(You don't have to make new characters to level a new class you just switch to that class)
I wouldn't have played this long if I didn't find something really really redeeming, and the fact that the game has over 500k subscriptions still to this day proves I'm not alone.
english fail.
English Fail isn't even a complete sentance.
Speaking of failing how was high school for you?
congrats you added no new data you merely tried to increase the size of your ego by putting down someone at random for no reason!
I'm sorry did my saying WoW was easy offend you?
<Thanks for the offer but I'll have to pass>
I think they where talking about the person who said Waist instead of waste...
But yes the dunes is pretty much a filter for those who really want to try and push themselves to progress from those who dont bother or really care about how the game works
Thus Maintaining a slight degree of quality in players who decide to stay on
I said "Slight" lol ><
On Asura the dunes are packed. Literally, after level sync there are too many people there. Anybody can get a group within about 10 minutes, unless you have a REALLY stupid job/subjob setup. Also, its quite easy to solo well into the teens and avoid the really ugly 10-12 or so in Valkrum.
In fact, just suck it up and get a job to 18, then sub and get another to 30. You can then find a much more self-reliant job (believe it or not, many jobs can solo, and do it quite well). Try BST, DRG, NIN, PUP, DNC, BLU.
I'm soloing a mid-50s DRG/BLU and getting better xp than many parties. No, it won't equal the xp/hour of a super-stacked & skilled party, but its better than most. I don't have to rely on anyone else to level. I like to group, but i've only grouped probably...25% of the time.
The "you can't solo" thing is a myth. Period.
LOL I'd pick your points apart if you'd actually made some. As it stands, you made none.

To the OP.
You fail. Simple as that.
With the new patch to get from 1 to 15 with NO SUBJOB and only a basic weapon equipped you can do it in something like 6 hours, 8 hours if you are bored that much. You don't need to go to the dunes. Hell you can pretty much go to 20 if you are any kind of damage dealer.
Fact is you didn't research. Hell I levelled my alt from 1-10 in something like 4 hours.
Final Fantasy is fun. It's called "fun in discovery", you know like when you actually have to give your best shot to actually do stuff.
If it's not your kind of game fine. But don't say it's a waste of money because you failed.
A friend is not him who provides support during your failures.A friend is the one that cheers you during your successes.
I feel bad for the person who made this thread nearly 5 months ago.
ROFL Good point. I didn't look at the date because i didn't think anyone would revive a almost 5 month old arguement but i underestimate the internet tubes.

Okay, I didnt read the whole thread, just the first couple sentences of the owner.
I must say, you really are a loser and have no clue about MMOs. Idiot, play sims

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

I went to game shop today to buy Civilization 4: Colonization but it's not arrive yet so I just blind pick Final Fantasy Xi European version.I have played FFX before on PS2 and Final Fantasy X for 2 months online. Because the game is too Japanized style nearly the same reason that I quit EQ2.
Hopefully, it worthy for my entertainment least for 30 days.
Its more than worth it, but you need some time to get into the game. Don't think ull get to 75 in one week...
Too me it sounds like you have a problem with playing with others, fairly common. If you cant play with others then the game you more than likely want is World of Warcraft, or Warhammer Online, those are called SPORPG 'Single Player Online Roll Playing Games'
bye

When I played WOW, my guild was doing MC on weekly basis, the raid needs 40 man, and when I played LOTRO, my guild doing raid 2 times a week, my other alt joined other guild also doing raid, so I was in a group nearly every other day.I do not have problem to play with others. But when I played FFXI few years ago, the sever are all Japanese, it's hard to find anyone speak English, I also have problem to group in EQ2.
One other reason that I bought FFXI because I noticed the box says "Join a legion of other brave adventurers...... " . We will see if FFXI European version would have better community than few years ago or not. In LOTRO European server, 100% guild got their unique and formal website, and guildies speak to each other via teamspeak or other voice chat, we will see!

I can see why it was hard to find people who spoke english when you yourself can barely speak it...
On a slightly more serious note, since you are from Europe, your play times more then likely coincide when Japanese players are getting on and most NA players are sleeping/logging off. Hence, you think there are only Japanese players. But this is only my theory. I don't know if there is a EU server for FFXI or not, but I would suggest looking into one.
currently playing: FFXI
Waiting for FFXIV to be updated more.
My girl friend and I bought FFXI few years ago so I have 2 copies already. I saw the new packing from FFXI and printed European Edition 2008. What will you think about that? I thought it could be a modified edition of FFXI for Europe and it will be a European server. NOPE, it is the same old game, took me 2 and half hour to update the 2008 CD, and the server is never in Europe. Now, I have 3 copies.
You guys are so amazing because I don't know how you can put up with the terrible combat engine. The game has been tried their best for the best but the combat engine, seriously it could be one of the worst in any game.
Every attack I need to select target first, if my mouse click miss the target then the mouse pointer automatically position on the left bottom corner to select CHAT. Then, when I move mouse pointer back to target, the mouse pointer touch the edge of the screen then the avatar change direction again. OK, it's nothing. How about this? When I enter into combat mode, the target still moving, although I can use Provoke to make target to attack me, but that was really a hassle plus timer on the skill, the target do not response to the combat. So I have to disengage and redo it again.
When you fighting another mob, it is difficult to fight another mob, because you must selct your target precisely otherwise, your mouse pointer will be selected another function.
If your left hand control WASD then right hand will use mouse for direction. But FFXI play too much on different configuration, while you keep pressing W key to move forward, if your mouse tile or makiing any click, your avatar also change direction which is I think not right. The game should disable to use mouse to move avatar, so when you move mouse only the map direction change, the avatar did not change.
There are too many to list all in details, anyway.
It;s so boring to post any more about this game, have fun all.
