Do you think that WoW will have the same immature playerbase as WC3?

But there will always be a few immature

i heard that argument alot in this context, but from my experience
that hasen't stopped them in other MMORPG's befor...

another point is, that you don't have to be 13 to be immature,
for being like that, age is not the only factor.

i have seen it all. I played with people for weeks, and was stunned
when i found out that they were underaged.

On the other hand, i have seen people, behave like complete idiots
    who were 20+

i guess some just can't handle the freedom and the anonymity of the online world!

    Agreed Starkiller,

Unfortunately immaturity, while generally pinpointed to younger people, can run rampant among the adults as well.  Two people in my current game come to mind, both quite immature.  One is now 15-16 years old; when I first came across him he was proudly proclaiming how he beat people up who looked at him the wrong way his first day of high school.  In the end he simply wants attention - when I promised I'd spend an hour helping him level, he immediately quieted down and became very respectful, even sending polite messages every 15 minutes asking if I was ready, and telling me how excited he was.

The second, to my surprise, was 35-40.  Family, career, etc.  But no concept of respect towards other people's ideas.  His world revolved around promoting his own ideas, while dismissing other ideas easily that did not agree, and putting people down who disagreed with his idea.  I've never seen the "I'm always right, you're always wrong" mentality so played out as it was in this guy.  One would think after 35-40 years in the real world, he would have gotten over that mentality, but sadly not.

I voted NO! My reason for this belief is as others have stated, WC3 was free to play. With every new game there will be those people who will annoy the crap out of you. Just as in Open Beta's. Why? Because they don't have to pay and are not looking to pay to play for the long haul. When money is involved, I think people are more aware of their attitude and reputation than a game where you don't have to pay and can change your name over an over.  When you have one account that you are paying for, and usually one main character I think people will act more humane. But, I am sure there will still be that small percentage where mommy and daddy will do anything in their power to make Jr. happy, by paying for their subscription to play and annoy all of us.

After awhile, people will learn who the good people are vs. the bad apple in the bunch. No one will want anything to do with those types of players. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

At the moment, the game is filled with immature jerks. (Mostly on the PvP server, but plenty on the Beta server also).  While I agree that things may not be so bad once everyone has to pay to play, it may not be much of a difference.  Everyone's first response is that the 'kids' will not play a p2p game due to parental issues, etc. Well, not all kids are...kids.  In example, lately there have been many complaints of people (supposedly 25+) arguing about the profanity rules active in beta. (If you use foul language in public chat channels, you're subject to suspension).  If people like this are actually 25+ (and indeed some, if not as many) of these 'kids' are actually grown adults - then I can basically assure you that at least a portion will seep into the release game.

But, the difference will be that when people have to pay to play the game - they'll generally be more conscious of their reputation within the community and not do things that could cost them to be outcast by others. A level 30+ that is on basically every /ignore list will generally troll himself out of existance.  Paying players want little or nothing to do with griefing, annoying people attempting to ruin the gameplay of others with their pranks.  No attention and the trolls get bored and move on to their next targets.

The griefers generally work together, and even make 'grief' guilds for the sole purpose of giving a name to their annoying tricks.  These guilds get singled out by the people that want to rid the game of griefers, and the griefers become the griefed.

Just my past experiences with MMOs talking though. =)

I'm indifferent to the pole.  WoW may have an immature player base from WC3, but then again, it may not. It all depends on what kind of crowd WoW draws in when it's released. Even though the official WoW forums may seem immature at times, that is still not the majority of the WoW crowd, but more like a mere sliver.

so where does that lead us to?

as discussed and agreed, we will have immature people in WoW, like anywhere else,
but i also think that Blizzard did a pretty good job with WoW and that these people won't have *that* much chance to annoy us as in other games.
I'm basing that assumption on the following points:

1.) kill-stealing is not that easy, even if you kill someones mob, it's still his loot, so, no ninja-looting either!
    2.) If i'm not in enemy-territory and don't have PvP enabled i can't be pk'ed

so, if i haven't forgotten anything important, the only thing left, a guy could to to annoy us, is to spam in the chat...so if anyone thinks he is so cool and is typing anything in Leet, we can put him easily on the ingnore-list

    anything i left out?

I said maby. MY reason is that the forums arnt that great. Nor is wc3 battle.net.  But for the forums thats only a small amount of people And possibly wc3 immature people dont want to pay or cant. But there is always the possibility that they will play.

No. There are modderates modding every realm. The reson WOW hast heat problem is there are so many places to be modded tehy can't get them all. But however WOW are just two server per location area. e.x. Chessapeak Area. Even when they are not on some gets the bore job of reading through the chast log of the realm. So if lets say L33t PK3R is caught swearing at low levels a starting town with somethign along "GET the **** off the realm you stupid n00b." He will get warned and or possibly suspened.

yes, i really pray for a "high" monthly fee. it not only scares immature people, but also keeps the game quality high (by putting the money into more updates, support, etc.)

Yes, Based on the WoW forums, some jerk was defending his right to "Dance or Die" players. I'd say they're in there already  http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-general&t=210238#Post210238

While it is consensual (I'd tell them to send me out for a walk) it still is degrading.  Also seeing dopes on other forums talking about how much fun it is to be a level 50 mage sneaking around and attacking level 10 warlocks makes me think I'll wait to get on the PvP server.  I've also read an article of someone getting ganked by a warrior until his pally buddy in his guild rescued him.  The Beta has all these twerps in it.  hopefully their antics will help blizz work against these tormentors.  To me it's like cheating to beat a game.  it takes away from the fun.  I'd feel more sense of accomplishment wiping out a 60+ dreadlord than sneaking around killing Level 5 players.

Anyway, you can always solo..  Or hang out with guildmates.
