People who judge games from beta builds.

I have to say and I am sure there are many folks out there that will agree with me on this matter. I see so many posts about how they think a game is not ready because they are having problems with the gameplay during a beta or stress test. I have tested many games that in the stress test ran bad ,but that was to be expected the game server was being maxed out to test its performance and help the devs prepare the game for launch. I remember WoW having a decent Stress Test and when the game released they had hell for like 3 mos. after release before they started ironing out the problems. Lord of the rings stress test imo ran bad and lagged like crazy, then when it released it ran very good for me. People just need to chill out a little and wait for the final build of Conan to release then wait a month and come back and write an honest review of the game. I myself do not plan to play AOC,but I would make a review on it until I had time to play its final version.  Its  beta Test get over it!

LOTRO is a bad example, 1 week after the stress test, they pretty much had the game running smoothly. Something i hope AoC can do for its fans as well

I challenge you.  Show me three games where the Open Beta/StressTest/Closed Beta doom/nay sayers were proven wrong on launch day.  Matter of fact, why should us gamers support these companies with our hard earned money one - six months of subscription fees to give them time to get the game right?

Look at LOTRO, they had it right in closed beta and their launch was the best we've seen in MMOGing.

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

I remember logging on to help the LotRO 3 day stress event in end of march before its release last year. Took me 10 mins or so to move about 100 metres. AoC has a specific build of beta to stress certain parts, the company has its reasons for the build. Conspiracy theories aside, I've never know official proper press to judge a game pre-release.

When you think when Shannia's poll went up on day one, all those people who voted they have cancelled their pre-order then the beta gets a massive patch, who knows whats to follow. But it is a different client at the end of day.

This post was not written to prove the doomsayers as you would call them wrong or right . Its about people not waiting for final build to say the game is bad or good. I have read way more positive posts than negative posts about this game as well. I also have watched the Doomsayers for years say SWG is doomed but yet its still going. I also see Doomsayers saying WoW is dieing yet when you log in all servers are full. I think Conan will be just fine for people who have systems that can run the game. I think people who try to run this game with equipment thats not up to the games demands will have problems this does not make the game itself bad either.

I agree with this post. I wish you and the rest of the Acolytes the best of luck while out wreaking havoc in Hyboria:P

Don't worry Avery, I have plans for Version 2.0 of my poll on May 20 and will run it for three weeks.  Fair is fair and I'm giving Preview Event folks and those that actually get the game equal voice.  Yes, I'll keep pushing for votes for a full 21 days for polls.

One thing that makes LOTRO a good comparison was the negative spouting from open beta and pre-launch. I remember the doom and gloom. Lets see...

PvMP sucks and no one will play becuase it has no traditional PVP

LOTRO will fail because Turbine is making it and DDO sucks.

LOTRO will fail becuase the world is so small.

LOTRO will fail becuase it is nothing more then a WOW clone

LOTRO will crash and burn becuase it stutters a lot, especially when you cross a zone or go into BREE.

I remember the lag in bree on the beta servers and everyone was having a massive fit. People complained endlessly on the forums about it. The ragging on Turbine itself was huge. Now, most people at least have to agree it is a solid game and growing.

AOC is not nearly in as good a shape as LOTRO was. That was perhaps the smoothest, most polished launch I have seen of an MMO. That being said,  Funcom fixed the zone load time and the stuttering graphics quickly.  If they keep the pace it will be fine, perhaps not as smooth as LOTRO at launch but fine.

A company is damned if they do, damned if they don't on these forums (and I suppose others).

No open Beta and t he company is hiding its obvious failure

Have an open beta and every complains because the game is not perfect yet

I imagine the whiners are one and the same in regards to the above two statements.

People just want something to cry about....some people just like their own voice to be heard. Wait till launch to make judgements...Everyone was complaining about not getting into beta and having to pay...then Funcom and FP allowed everyone to come just recently...noone is complaining about that anymore...When these things get fixed, everyone will stop complaining and then start complaining about the next problem...Human nature, noone can appreciate things for their positive attributes, only their negative..Nuff said.

Heh..... I've said it before, a game company releases an open beta for more than just a stress test..... or do you think they have another motive for removing the NDA for open beta testers. Viral marketing and word of mouth is the cheapest advertising and open beta serves as a sneak preview for that purpose. Funcom choosing the current open beta client to represent the game is just a poor marketing choice, point blank.
