I actually think Runescape's variety of skills is it's one saving grace. For all the bad, I was actually never bored. There was always something to do, some goal to achieve, and I wish a popular company would make a game that is similar to Runescape's skill system.
-------------------------------------- A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"
Well, the question is, how far are you willing to reach? Ultima Online was known for its skill system. SWG would have been a great choice some time ago, but not so much these days.
Mabinogi is actually quite good with various skills. It's not just mindless grind, more grinding in various ways and thinking about it a little bit in order to improve. The combat system is also on the opposite end of Runescape. Which is to say, while Runescape's combat was legendary in its badness, Mabinogi's combat is definitely one of the best I've seen in a free MMO.
I have to admit, I enjoyed Runescape's diverse skill set, even if the point and click got tiring long before I got anywhere. I'd probably be playing Mabinogi if I had more time, but it can be quite an intensive game if you let it.
yep mabinogi if you prefer 3d, aside from hunting you can tailor, cook, make medicines, make armors, make weapons, do fishing, cut wood, make a campfire, play music, compose music, make fabrics, forge metals, mine for minerals, collect wool from sheep, collect milk from cows, collect apples from trees, harvest potatoes, wheat and barley etc etc etc. the only downside is its free to play BUT you have to shell out some cash if you really want your character to develop (but so far im still enjoying the game even if i havent put some money into the game yet)
and btw the game is for north american residents only. you have to find ways to get into the game if you are not from north america (like me)
if you prefer 2d, best i can come up with is goonzu online/luminary online, hunt, cook, fish, make armors, make weapons, make shoes, make belts, make medicines, mine minerals, do farming etc.
wonderland online also seems to offer the same gameplay, but i havent played it long enough to be able to try its features fully. (honestly the game confuses me, but thats my problem i think)
(\__/) Why Can't You Put ( ^.^) The Bunneh (")-(") Back In The Box?
I highly reccommend Mabinogi. Many different skills, similar to RuneScape's, some interesting quests every now and then. You can make a Nexon account here and download the game here. Learn a little about it here and some help on the combat skill here. Watch some more vids in game here.
Hope that helps.

Yea, like others have said, either Ultima Online or Mabinogi.
