An MMORPG i can play with a friend.

Hi!

Firstly i am looking for an MMORPG i can play with a friend.. The games we have tried and have quit for good so far -

WoW, EvE Online, Tabula Rasa, Entropia Universe, Star Wars Galaxies and Anarchy Online.

They are all no-no's, Not going to complain just want to dismiss them.

We have no issues with money (i.e we can pay for whatever).

We have tested out hellgate london but didnt like the linear and repetative maps, Although loved the first and third person ability, and the nice graphics.

Absolutely hate korean grind fests and like only optional pvp (i.e we choose when we want to pvp and not get ganked and spawn killed).

We want a game where we can group up and have fun without everything being repetative.

We like doing missions (and not just 100000x kill this and bring this back to me) missions, as above not repetative running around in circles doing the same thing.

We like end of the world stuff (cant wait for fallen earth)

We like to mine/craft/kill

We prefer Sci-fi games but if the fantasy game is worth it would be happy to play it.

We would like a game where neither of us are redundant in a group/guild and where we both make a difference.

Apologies if there is not enough information but we are both very tired of playing one "new" game and finding out there is no endgame content, or it is too easy, or it is the same thing over and over again.

Thank you in advance!

Have you thought about trying The Lord of the Rings Online? You can try the 14 day trial right now.

Can you craft/mine/pve/pvp in guild wars ?

It looks ok but would like some opinions on wether it is a good grouping game

Eww, just found out GW is all based on old asian lore? No thanks... Any sci-fi suggestions?

Trowing a wild guess: Vanguard, and Everquest. Altought they are not sci-fi.

Eh, no good games as of right now that you haven't listed that aren't asian grindfests or linear. My best advice is to wait to try out AoC or WAR, and in the time being just play CoD4. But if that doesn't satisfy you, try out City of Heroes/Villians.  Its worth a try.

CoD4 Combat seems too fast, I want something totally open.. CoX seems too, Childish ? not our kind of genre.

I think it's funny that all the games you have tried and have quit are pretty much the only decent ones that fit into your "likes" category. Maybe a game like DDO? It is not Sci-Fi, but it definately has the best "missions" and the class/skill choices can really diversify the classes. Other than that I dunno.

The only thing that comes to mind that even begins to fit your criteria without going wildly off base seems to be A Tale in the Desert.  Plenty of crafting and community, but not so in the killing.  It's quite different.

The biggest problem with what you say is "repetitive", which most MMOs are by nature.  There's only so much to do.  I mean, I could name console games that would do quite well for many of your demands, aside from being multiplayer.  The Star Ocean series is set in a sci-fi universe with some sword and sorcery thrown in, a lot of item crafting, various missions, endgame content, etc.  On the other hand, it's a single player console game, and nobody's made an MMO based on it yet.

I think the closest thing to what you'd want would be either EVE without full-world PVP and more PVE options, or pre-CU SWG.  Wouldn't that be nice though?

So...  Yeah, I hate to admit, there's really not much that fits what you want, and the closest matches are already on the "already done it" list.  I mean, you could try RF Online, but you better prepare yourself for grind.

You could wait for Earth Rise to come out, it fits the setting you described: sci-fi, post apocalyptic, all that jazz.

Dont dismiss GW like that please...  all their stories and concepts are really fun  and great to play with a friend     only time i play is farming titles or doing GWEN dungeons   which i only do  with my friend...The Heroes system is really nice if you have another person  due to the fact that you will always have a full party...  i would   give NF and GWEN a try  they are worth it  and if you dont like the game after a few weeks   ohh well now you have an account for life to always come back too

i use GW and a filler in between games
