So I'm in the open beta and have played several characters to around level 8-10. I'm trying to decide which character I might like to play in release.
Here are my top choices:
Warrior - Dark Templar
Pros: Like the idea of the class and the background. Looking forward to gaining a shadow pet. Solo friendly.
Cons: Feels a lot like other warrior classes at lower levels. Not sure groups will want a dark templar as much as a guardian or conqueror.
Rogue - Ranger
Pros: Love stealth. Ranged attacks are cool.
Cons: Overly popular class. Traps seem gimped (could be I'm not using them correct or it's a bug)
Priest - Tempest of Set
Pros: Love healing plus crowd control plus AOE destruction
Cons: Seems a little slow to level solo. Not sure I will find it an interesting class long-term.
Mage - Demonologist
Pros: Seems cool up to level 5. Want succubus pet (I'm an old WOW warlock fan, don't ask)
Cons: Too early to tell but class seems a little fragile early on.
If anyone has advice or their own thoughts about why they love playing the above classes, I'd love to hear it. Right now, I'm liking several classes but I don't feel a particular connection to any of them. I guess it also doesn't help all the melee classes feel the same at lower levels, because of the same combos.

Well, as in all games, the mage or "demonologist" types start off the weakest and eventually become some of the strongest characters in the game. I'm actually quite interested in how magic will work in this game, so I would go with that. Rogues and Warriors...especially warriors are quite cliche' but you will definately find them everywhere. I personally don't like priests so I wouldn't do it...but everyone is different in their tastes.
Good Luck in finding the class that suits you best
Just curious Xnellakx, in your experience are any classes that don't get invited to groups? I know that in both WOW and GW the "ranger" or "hunter" character often has to wait awhile for groups since there are so many of them, while tanks and healers always get quickly invited.
Likewise, I'm leaning towards a priest class because in AOC they're always in demand.

I want to stand on a Battlekeep wall during a Seige and fire down on the attacking guild and their seige weapons. Even if I find the melee classes more fun to play with PvE and even 1v1 PvP, I'll make sure to keep my ultimate goal in-mind. Therefore I will absolutely play as a Ranger.
If I were you I would take advanced trigonometry..........
yeah, that is what the main faulty is in a class - based MMORPG. There will always be a certain group of classes people will want. If you're looking to make a PvE character than the most popular grouping choices are almost very likely to end up being the PoM-PoM's and Guardians... people want classes that serve a specific goal, at least in PvE. In PvP it's probably better to pick a class like a Dark Templar, as with more functionality = more survivable. But in this sense, there is a good chance either way you go you will find a group. Just more likely with a class that serves a specific purpose.
also, I wouldn't really try judging damage outputs, defenses, and the like-wise of all these classes, and if you do, low-level isn't exactly the best place to judge those sorts of things. What ruins the fun out of a game is trying to find which class is the best... you'll find it to be a lot more fun if you just choose a class that seems fun to you.
As for myself, I will most likely play a Bear Shaman. I want to do a little of everything that classes have to offer, and I intend to mostly play the game for the PvP.
If only SW:TOR could be this epic...
The most important thing about this game is not to overpower the rangers and mage classes they ruined other mmos. This is a game where melee classes should dominate.
i pick warrior, i always go with a fighter type class just cuz its my style. Big warriors with huge weapons seem so BA to me
^^ same i don't like classes that wear dresses.
get these classes to lvl 13. So you get to try them out in a real pvp environment in the upcoming FFA pvp beta.
i'd stick with the ToS it bogs down a little in the mid teen lvls but once you level it up a bit it really holds its own. the thing is you really cant discount any caster classes until they put spellweaving in the game. most casters are great now i imagine they'll only get better once spellweaving is in.
