AOC's biggest flaw is their combat system, that's right. Their biggest sell point is their combat system, and it had a flaw that it does not work. We all know that sometime in combat and you randomly perform a fatality move ( cut off someone's head. etc... and blood splash all over your screen. we all seen it in their trailers.)
While u perform the fatality move, mobs don't stop, they still attack you, so after you got your of your fatality animation, YOU ARE DEATH.
in PVP when i did a fatality move on another player, i saw his head fall off, and after i got back out of the fatality animation, he already killed me and i'm laying dead.
* game all instanced, and load time is about 5 min, and crash happen every 5 min on the mark.
* most of quest are buged, not working,
* game not ready for launch, it's just like another vanguard to me. i already cancel my pre-orders ( 2 orders )
* don't get me wrong, the concepts of the game are great, but not for another year untill game is playable.

can you not disable the fatality animation in the open beta version?
Would that not defeat the entire point of having them in the game at all? Not to pick, but wouldn't requiring them to be turned off in order to do battle effectively render the time wasted on that programming useless?
This is the first I've heard of the matter. I had always assumed that they would have the foresight to tack on a mild invincibility during the animation or something. While not a major deal...it does go to kinda back the already massive suggestive mind of the haters that this team really has no &*#%ing clue how to make a game.
I liked the ideal of fatalities....to hear that they are essentially a hindrance makes me sad . Granted, I've long since lost all hope for the game...but that was one thing I still kinda liked about the concepts presented. I expected people to say they got old...but to hear they actually guarantee your own death is, well...absurd.

Note tho that he/she said they died after they performed the fatality so obviously they were at very low health for this to happen and why should you not keep fighting all the way to the end even if some 1 sticks a sword in ya gut, a very minor flaw imo if your low on health and performing a fatality and die in the process..heh bad luck i guess.
FYI: Tortuga is highly instanced because it s a starter town, it is done so that people can actually play on the first day when that zone will be overloaded. Once you hit level 20 you will head off to rest of the world where the ratio of instanced vs non-instanced goes down dramatically.
patience my young padawan. i am sure they will fix it.
i made 10 characters all classes( yes there only class but i made same class twice to see if i can get pass the bug ) and deleted 7 of them after reach about level 10 to 15, why? stuck on their destiny quests, why i still have 3, because i can't delete the other 3. the destiny quests are so bugged, stuck in night time, and can't get back into day time at all.
load time is very long sometime the game crash on load screen, so i have to restart the game, just to have the same thing happen again. everything is instance , just like guild war, get in the thirsty dog inn, load screen, crash, relog back in, inside, talk to the quest npc, get out of the inn, load screen, crash, relog back in , stuck on loading screen. turn off game playing something else, haha.
it doesn't just happen to me alot of the player in the general ( closed beta ) had the same problems, and they are canceling their pre-order left and right.
if u really like the game and it runs fine on your comp, then enjoy the game by yourself, cause alot of us not playing :-)
Not well you know FC, do you hmmm?
I dunno, how long are the animations? Solid burst DPS classes have always had a history of being able to unload nearly the full health of their targets in mere seconds in PvP. If the animation is even 3-4 seconds long...thats enough time to go from 75% to dead from the opening volley of something hardcore DPSing. Even in WoW, which jacked up the HP and crit defense of everyone massively, it would be enough time to die in under the right situations.
Even if you DON'T die...thats a BIG hindrance regardless. I don't even wanna SEE the fatalities if doing so puts me in a situation where I'm almost guaranteed to die and place my 'teams' chances of victory in the red.
I think the OP is exaggerating alot. I've been logging alot of time with this game and the Fatalities don't get you killed. You get a buff increases your regen rates when you do one. Also, when you do a fatality it's the last hit on the opponent. If you die right after a fatality it's because you are lagging really bad, you had very low health and tons of DoT damage eating away at you.
The combat system rocks. It promotes mobility and on the fly decision making. When you have a weapon out you can double tap a direction and you dodge or charge in that direction, but you also get a temporary buff for doing so.
For instance, when you dodge backwards you get a dodge bonus buff, and when you charge forward you get a temp buff that gives all of your attacks a chance to stun.
The combat in AoC has me hooked like a wide-mouthed bass. I wasn't very impressed with it at first, but the light came on and everything clicked. I started understanding the tides of the battles and began to capitalize on them. You can't just button mash and wait for cooldowns to be effective in combat. The game rewards strategic play and it has some really cool animations.
In short, I disagree with the OP (original poster).
My highest CB character was level 60, but my current character is level 18. I have personally had no crash issues or drops in FPS (except for a few select zones that Funcom knows about and has made a post on the CB forums about). The vast majority of my zoning happens in about 10 seconds with the longest clocking in at just under a minute. Overall, performance is very good (and CB doesn't even have the latest client, neither does OB). And personally, I play in such a way that I very rarely have to go through a zone line.
A lot of performance issues can be fixed by keeping your PC clean of malware, HDD defragged, and drivers up to date. You can also use the verify/repair tool in the SimpleConfig exe that is in your game folder to fix a bunch of issues that are related to your install of the client, not the client in general.
I am not going to deny some bugs, but the only ones I have noticed are with some broken quests (I count found 3 broken quests in Tortage). As a Dark Templar, my destiny quests all work perfectly.
You should also know that there is more to the combat system than just 3 directions and a few combo's. You have shields, dodges, additional attack directions and more involed combo's yet to come (I don't know if you have been high enough level to use these). One last thing, I have never been attacked by my target while performing a fatality. You can still die while doing a fatality, but that is from another person/creature attacking you or you having very low life and a DoT placed on you or something like thatt.
Rising Arms.
