Has Video Games Inspired You in Anything?

Rikimaru_XRikimaru_X Member UncommonPosts: 11,718

I thought this could be an interesting topic. I want to know if there has been any video game or anything in a video game that has inspired you to do, accomplish, complete, or set any kind of goals? Made you want to do or look into anything in life, history or maybe even hobbies or careers? I will give out a few things of mine.

Tenchu: Stealth Assassins - This game really took hold of me and inspired me to learn more about the ninja, ninjitsu and study as much as I can about martial arts (even though martial arts took hold of me before the game came out in 1998). Thats why you see me as a Ninja now. I might can't practice every chapter in the book of ninjitsu, but I'm sure as hell as close to being one (without the family history).

Street Fighter II: Champion Edition - I played this when I was really young. A safe guess would be when I was in between Elementary and Primary School. Even though it was a fighting game. I learned about the world itself and the history (somewhat) of the background and characters....well it gave in that settling feel to travel. I want to Japan, China, India, Russia....that kicked off there. My love for martial arts almost started from this game too.

I can't think of anything else right now. Is anyone else able to share?

I've made lots of good RL friends. Does that count?

I've learned lots of English in order to be able to understand what I'm doing and what I'm supposed to do. Also I've made some friends and became friends with people in real life who are playing, mainly thanks to our shared interest.

They subconsciously inspired me to game a few extra pounds while sitting on my butt gaming all day. I was then inspired to get off of my lazy butt and get back into shape. No more Funyons for you!

I spelled it wrong? Forgive me son. I was dead asleep (the only time when I make topics). Who said Ninja's can spell anyway?

I've been inspired to travel, and know a lot more about history. I'd also like to collect relics and the like.

Age of Empires inspired me to learn about history. I am friend with some people in RL because we played the same games. They inspired me to learning programming.

I wonder what Jack Thomson would say video games have inspired people to do lol.

Just taking the piss Riki, Westerners refer to it as Ninjitsu anyways, so you spelled it right in that respect.

The description of the Paragons in Guild Wars Nightfall as well as the beginning of its story inspired me to make an impact on the world in a positive way. I mean I've heard alot about the importance of being polite and communicative and everything, but it's when I played Nightfall as a Paragon that I saw how powerful and inspiring having a strong character and presenting yourself positively can be.

Max Payne had also affected me by changing the way I look at the world. One quote that struck me was "It wasn't about how smart you were or how good. It was chaos and luck, and anyone who thought different was a fool." This is because I've always looked at the world subjectively and, in a way, selfishly without consideration for anyone else. But I began to realize that everyone was a unique human being, just like me, but different in many aspects including interests, strengths and weaknesses, personal experiences, and perspective of the world.

I mean, I had always been observing these truths, but it was the games that sort of summed it up for me, in a way creating guidelines in my head to look back to whenever I'm confused about the events of my life. Sometimes, entertainment and literature will be able to educate you in ways schooling can't.

Just video games in general got me very interested in computing 20 years ago. Now I am a senior engineer with a heavy focus in the security field.

Edit: Might as well contribute to the thread as well.  I played Pirates of the Burning Sea and wanted to become a pirate.  I read a few books and got a parrot.  And now I am coming for you Riki.  Watch your front, and your back.  Aaaaargh...

Yeah I'm foreal, but you got to remember what I said. Not all chapters I can learn, because a lot of things would get me in...trouble and a lot of info is updated such as geography and such. It's complicated.

I actually learned quite a bit of English by typing in MMO...

But have games inspired me? Well, I guess the biggest one would be that they've inspired my career choice, pretty important I suppose.

Otherwise, I think good video games haven't so much inspired anything in my life as they have forced me to look at life and the real world differently; just like any other good form of entertainment would I suppose.

  • dafuzzledafuzzle Member Posts: 160

Well, I'm not sure about being "inspired" by a game, but COD4 wanted to make me learn more about guns.  Other than that not much inspiration coming out of my gaming habit.

Video games have made me treat girls with a lot more respect, I now see them in a more positive light. Before I did not have a lot of understanding about girls and their feelings, you know like crazy shit, like ummmm feelings and stuff. Now I have learned through video games that you just look for the girl with a nice set of juciy kickballs to play with, and a backdoor that just looks like its prime to be cracked opened. I feel more comfortable with girls and knowing that they are built for one prupose and one purpose only, sport. I owe a lot to video games and I think every girl here should also admit that they too feel the desire to develope their own bodies and turn them into those nice tight sexy fun loving play grounds that video games show they shold be. Remeber girls if you can not get a body like Laura Croft then you should strive to stay indoors and not expect too much going good for you in life. Bring it on down now.

Damn byotch dat aint no friggn moon fool, dat be a friggn space station byotch.

Do you ever make a post that isn't about women and having sex with them? I mean I'm a typical guy and think about such things often, but I don't have to act like a fucking buffoon. You're skewed view on women just makes you look like a nob.

Video games inspired me to learn to program, to build computers, computer literacy and to learn I.T.

My hobby as taught me professional skills that I often use in the marketplace.

I have been inspired by IL-2 Sturmovik to go to the Imperial Air Museum this afternoon.

actually, Ninjitsu and Ninjutsu are both acceptable since it's romanji ie written in such a way for English speakers to be able to read the word phonetically since we obviously don't know written japanese (kanji)
