Is it just me or does the character look horribly out of place compared to the environment? (outside at least)

Well, that's all I care about anyway :p

Edit: God why did they only have self shadows, at least turn it all on or not at all, it looks so dumb being the only one with a shadow :S

Edit 2: The horrible blue dress doesn't help either :S

He does look out of place.

That is probably because the lighting isnt in or not polished. Because the character doesnt seem to have the same lighting as the environment and therefore looks like he isnt "in the picture".

Thats because it is The Shadow. He just never realized this world lacked shadows.

I'm pretty sure he was a warrior-priest in the chaos side of the world. So it should look a bit odd.

Unless you meant something else in which case, no idea.

Nice video, I would agree he does look out of place a bit, wish this game was coming out sooner.

Out of every 100 men, 10 should not be there,
80 are nothing but targets, 9 are the real fighters.
Ah, but one, ONE of them is a warrior,
and he will bring the others home.

Cool, I actually submitted a in-game suggestion to add more weather effects, I guess they were already working on it.

  • coffeecoffee Member Posts: 2,007

OMGZ... they so copied weather effects from WoW

Hey lots of frozen shurikens flying around!! Ok, ok maybe it wasn't that funny. Blue dress doesn't bother me at all.

Weather effect looks great and obvioulsy adds more atmosphere to the game (as well as the impaled bodies). Thumbs up!

I actually like the battle-dresses the Warrior Priests wear. They give off a "fashionable aura" and let everyone else know that they are both important and manly enough to wear a sky blue man-skirt.

The last game I played where weather effects and Day night cycles had an impact on my gameplay was early DAOC. (and they've reduced their effect in the current game)

Makes sense Mythic would include weather, and I'm glad, used to like fighting in a good snow or rainstorm.

    Nice weather there :)

As for no one wanting to die... standoffs are an obvious consequence of too harsh death penalties - in this case run times. Bigger death penalties = slower PvP.... It'll be interesting to see if Mythic will stoop down to addressing this...

Another suggestion to reduce the probability of standoffs is to substitute tug-of-war zero sum competitive mechanic for a race one. Quite obvious really... study your board games folks, it's all in there..

The one thing that jumped out at me is that the snow is blowing quite strongly in the opposite direction of the clouds.

Reminds me of how it drives me nuts in FFXI to see the sun shining from the opposite direction that the light is hitting the airship.

    Looks pretty cool overall :)

Winds at ground level and winds aloft can and do vary direction and speed (in the aviation business). Also, anyone notice that since it is in a chaos zone that the snowflakes are all shaped in 8 pointed chaos symbols?

Hehe, are you kidding. I never saw any live footage of  WAR, and only played WOW for two weeks, but when I clicked the link on Baso80's post I really thought it was WOW instead of WAR.

I checked several other WAR videos on youtube, just to be sure I was looking at WAR footage and not WOW and it looks almost exactly as WOW. Only enviroments seem to have less atmosphere.

    Even the interface looks similair.

Not that thats a bad thing, but come on!

Heh, it's funny to me sometimes.  Everyone always compares to WoW.   I could easily say the UI reminds me of DAoC.....or even UO, lol.  UO had a map and action bar.

DAoC also had mastery trees, and you could respec with specific stones (just extremely expensive.)  Imagine spending around 5K  WoW gold for a respec.

WoW did streamline a lot of things, and I'm in no means a WoW  hater.  I have several lvl 70s that I enjoy playing.  I just find it funny when people always compare to WoW.  I just assume because they haven't played a lot else to use for reference.

Want ultra super realism instead of "cartoony" graphics? You have two options mate.

    1) Wear a blindfold and hold down the up arrow key, as if you were actually doing something.

    2) Go outside. There's plenty of realism out there, surprising..."real" life, wtf? If the sun doesn't melt you or something that is.

    I'm mean today.

    --------------------------------------
A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"

Landscape is looking great for the months it still has left. Can already see how they are working like DaoC did, with having environment coming into play with the battles that will be happening.
