No...but, you adjust the seats...move the mirrors, maybe put some stuff in the glove box?
I call that "tweaking"
I would liken that to adjusting the UI in game and key bindings, just for personal comfort right?
Going into the game folder and adjusting settings there is like opening the hood and fiddling with the engine.
I did not have to do this...and there is no .ini file (I looked, as I am a massive tweaker)
I had to move some sliders is all in the game itself...(and really all I did on two machines is hit Medium and then turned up some stuff and turned on some other stuff I liked)
Where MOST of my tweaking took place was on my computer, as I like to do that to get the most speed..
I have no doubts there are driver issues, certain hardware issues...but, I also know that all the "reports" everyone is sending in (everyone is doing that part...right?) will help in this matter...
i dont understand why so many people continue to base how the game is still performing in BETA as to how it will when it goes live...
Because with less then two weeks until launch, beta releases have been very close to, if not exactly what the retail release will be. That's what has many of us concerned.

sadly, it look like Funcom did'nt learn from the horrible launch of Anarchy Online. With only a few days before launch the game is still bugged like hell, crashes, lag, hitching, bad fps. I was really confident that the folks at Funcom would have learned something, but as of today, Conan seems to be heading in the same direction of anarchy online. Hope i'm wrong, but i don't see how they could turn the game around in 2 weeks if this is the result for 4-5 years of developpement.

Perhaps, but in my experience, no miracles occur in a month, major improvements to software are slow processes that take many months to implement, so expecting a miracle from the last month of patching (where they frequently break as many things as they fix) isn't realistic.

I was in Beta III of AO (and then into the collapse that was Beta IV) and this game is NOwhere near that of AO. I played for hours last night and only had one crash the entire time (right at the end when my computer locked up) and I'm on a PoS rig with a PoS video card (3100+ Sempron, x1300pro with 1.5gb of ddr400 ram), so I'm very much at the bottom of the requirements list and I was still able to play (with some obvious zone loading issues as my computer decided I should be slain with prejudice for even contemplating this )
I crashed every time I zoned in BIII and BIV was even worse of AO and that was just a couple days before launch.
The hardware to run this isn't stuff that won't be available for anothre 5 years, it is stuff that has been available for a year or more. Come on, an E6500 isn't a state of the art chip here! Lightyears ahead of my beast, but that is my problem, not theirs and my video card is arguably worse than the minimum.
I think AoC will be fine in their launch and yes, I'm one who lived through the nightmare of Anarchy Online (or rather as it was called Anarchy Offline)
This game works well for me on 3 different systems...ranging in cost to build from 500-2000 bucks...Zero Crashes, no buggy quests, no buggy NPC's...
WTH people...I can't understand how so much doom and gloom exists for this game..
I had worse luck in LOTRO open beta with floating NPC's, sound issues, hitching, high texture memory leak...
Here, I can actually play without sending a bug report...except for the exit...which everytime you quit, the "Send Funcom a message" box comes up...yet the process exited normal..
If that is my only bug...I am one happy camper..
Pre-order still in...I have finally found my second game

Actually, that is not really true. I have seen dramatic changes in a week (even a couple of days) at the end of betas and lag that existed at the end of beta was gone at release. Beta testing is for finding bugs, not necessarily fixing them. Not all developers fix the bugs as soon as they see them. They are easier to track if they don't. Often they will already have the fixes in place internally and ready to roll out, but they want to continue gathering data on the issues until the last minute. One patch and the majority of the problems are fixed. Once the game is released they will never get another chance to test it as thoroughly as they can in beta and they want to make the most of it. Also, keep in mind all the bug tracking software that is running on the servers will be turned off at release reducing a lot of the server side lag.
I have been in a lot of betas and I find that some people worry way too much. Every one of them had people that felt the game wasn't ready for release. In most cases they were wrong. Unfortunately there have been some releases that justify that concern. Many turn out well though. You have tested and provided feedback. That is all you can do. Trust that the developers know what they are doing....and hope it is true.
Well, hopefully the launch will be the only similarity between AO and AoC.
If two years down the line they abandon the entire lore and storyline to have everyone start running around in another dimension, and then throw that out a year later for random alien invasions, I will cry.
I keep hearing people say it's only two weeks to release so what you see is what you get. Less than a week ago I was crashing every 5-10 minutes, then *poof* one patch fixed it. I'm still getting crashes every hour or so when my memory fills up because of a memory leak. This is no biggie for me because memory leaks will ALWAYS be fixed. I've seen it in scores of games and they're all fixed relatively quick.
I'm running the game with 2.0 shaders and medium settings + no bloom. This gives me great performance. When I run it in 3.0 shaders and high I get that annoying stalling every 2-3 seconds, especially in towns/cities. Oddly enough when I delete the three shader cache-files even high-settings are playable for a while, until my memory fills up again I guess.
Point is I can tweak my client so I get good performance with 3.0 shaders and high settings. I already got great performance with 2.0 shaders and medium settings (which is probably the best gfx in any MMO to date as it is). Considering it's still 2 weeks till release I'm not worried at all.
At release day when people have installed their client from their DVD they have to wait another 15-20 minutes before they can play, because the client patches from server. So what. It's not a big deal. It's not like anyone without an internet connection will buy the game anyway.
There's a lot of people that has invested considerable prestige in AoC failure on this board. I've played the beta for a while now and all I can say to you is; prepare for some hurt. This game is already great as it is. In two weeks it will run even smoother with better performance. It's the next big thing in my opinion.
Hope i'm wrong, but i don't see how they could turn the game around in 2 weeks if this is the result for 4-5 years of developpement.
Indeed. Unless... just lets say for sake of completely random argument... they are testing stuff out to see what happens, including stuff they know will diminish performance in the short term. I realise that beta is not anything to do with testing an unreleased product; that in fact beta is about pre-releasing the game to mmorpg.com readers, but you never know - there is a slim possibility that they are testing things.
That is my next focus, beyond the performance bugs. 1-13 isn't all that special, I know a lot of people say it is, but it seems more the mmo fare then not, been there done that. Now I have some in CB telling me that it doesn't have this magical gameplaying change we are told that is after tortage. We'll see...
I think part of the problem funcom now has is you can never give someone a second chance on a first impression. Thats what all the damage control is about.
Whether this is another 'AO' launch or as some peeps would like to think a Vanguard release one big problem is to be even compared to those launches is a tough hole to fill. Whether the preception is true or not.
I think funcom will pull it off, but then again when I registered my preorder I didnt buy any extra time or cancel any other mmo sub to play AOC.
sadly, it look like Funcom did'nt learn from the horrible launch of Anarchy Online. With only a few days before launch the game is still bugged like hell, crashes, lag, hitching, bad fps. You DO realize your playing OB, which is for Load Testing, right?
This is sounding eerily like the vanguard open beta.
Not a big fan of this game, but in its defense, anybody else remember back during the WoW beta when the loot server bug surfaced? I remember I thought that game was screwed at that point. It was happening very frequently, everybody would be totally unable to play since everything in that game is based on items. People would be stuck picking an earthroot, looting a tiger, turning in a quest for a reward, whatever. You couldn't even get the game client to close some of the time, you were just stuck. That bug was there on the beta client all the way till release, and even for a little while after release.
Anyways, to make a long story short, they fixed it and sold 10 million subs.
For those people there is the Xbox 360 version. That way they don't have to worry about configuration problems and lack of PC knowledge.
I doubt they will offer a Xbox 360 version. My guess is they will go under within 2 months and start layoffs. They will not have the money or people to do a 360 version. I hope I am wrong but this game is a mess. It is actually unbelievable that this is the result of 5 years of development.

I've been playing WoW since release (keep quitting and resubbing.. just quit again) and will also pre-order AoC (tomorrow), so I really have some stock in this game succeeding..
That being said, the loot bug and the problems that litter the forums are entirely disjoint: Memory leaks and other severe problems with the engine are much harder fix.
The loot bug is, sadly, still in WoW but to a much lesser extent that it had ever been before (I see a bad case maybe once a month). WoW has always, however, run smoothly on even the worst of machines.
I will be so disappointed if this game is not optimized properly: From what I've seen, the character customization and combat will be (is if you're in beta?) spectacular . WAR's combat seems to be a dumbed down immobile bastardization of WoW's, so if I can't run this game I'll be gameless for a while ...
It's as if getting something to work properly and innovate cannot be satisfied at the same time.
This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.
I don't know what all the doom and gloom is about, I rarely crash and the game plays great for me. If it plays this well come launch time I see no problem. This forum is so full of negative people wanting it to fail. Ever since Vanguard launched people here have gotten downright nasty at times, still angry because of that and taking it out on any game with lots of hype that is close to launch. I wonder if the same kind of thing will happen when WAR comes close to launching.
That's great that it's working for you, but for every person that is having a good experience, there are others that aren't. What do you think, people are making up stories about the poor performance of the game for them? Try to see beyond the end of your nose please.
I do not think they are making it up but I do think they need to spend a little time making sure they meet the specs, update drivers etc before blaming the game. I build sytems for a living and you would be shocked how many people want a killer gaming rig but only want to spend 500.00 or less, when I tell them a good video card runs more than that they think I am ripping them off or they complain about how stupid it is to spend that kind of money on a video card.
I have built a lot of cheap systems and constantly hear how they cant run certain games or how bad certain games run so I show them how good that game runs on the 2000.00 demo system I have in the shop and they still want to know why their 500.00 system will not run like that. They basically want something for nothing or at the least they want the performance of a 2000.00 gaming rig but only want to pay 500.00 for that performance, sadly its not going to happen. I understand some people are on a limited budget and cant drop 2 grand on a computer but dont expect the same performance as the guys who do drop that kind of cash on a system.
I have 5 systems in my house and AoC runs great on all of them and the only thing I run differant than most I see having problems is I run XP and only use AMD CPU's. My lowest system is a AMD 5600+ X2, 4GB DDR2, Maxtor 300GB SATA HD and an NVIDIA 8600GT 512 running 174.93 beta drivers and the only software on that system other than games is XP, AVG Antivirus and a firewall so nothing running in the background eating up resources and that system runs 40-50FPS in town and in PvP and 60-70FPS outside of town on medium settings. I have leveled 4 toons to 13 on that system with only 1 crash and that was on the first day of beta.
I am sure some are having problems but you might want to check your system before blaming Funcom for releasing a crappy product since some of us are having no problems.
As a paid viral marketer I assure everyone the game will be great, launch will be perfect, and you should all pre-order your collectors edition at $599 to get your free King Conan flush toilet throne, complete with skull toilet paper holder.
Roflmao!!!!!!!!
Do you sell the skull toilet paper seperately? i m kind of fond of my my toilet, spent alot of time with her and i dont wanna replace her, she been faithfull all those years.

My rig is most certainly isnt the best, but its a middle-range machine and is almost at the recommended requirements. I have my game on mostly low stuff and have had a pretty smooth experience. I keep my PC completely updated with the latest drivers and as clean as I can possibly make it (hard when you have a 140gb RAID Mirroring HDD and a client uses up 23+ gigs:P). I've certainly had performance issues with framerate drops etc, and expect to be able to bump up the settings to medium not low. But this is beta! Funcom have already stated big performance boosts are in the works and should be seen in the launch version.
Haha I love how all the trolls come out and tell everyone how they hate the game and have uninstalled the client... if you hate the game and have uninstalled it why are you still posting here? Why are people so bitter that they have nothing better do with their time but to post for the sole reason of thrashing a game, hoping is fails so other people can be as miserble as them because the game didn't reach their hopes?
What is even sadder is the same people post this on multiple threads, I don't need to be reminded by the same person in every thread that their game is no longer on their computer and that they aren't playing it anymore. Logic tells me if a game has failed you, you post once about it and never look back again, some of you people are really sad individuals, get a life and stop trying to look tough on the forums.

Was there in the BETA Vanguard and believe me if you want, AoC is more solid by all means. So this is not even a good comparison at all.

I think funcom will pull it off, but then again when I registered my preorder I didnt buy any extra time or cancel any other mmo sub to play AOC.
cheers all
edit= a typo doh!
Roflmao!!!!!!!!
Do you sell the skull toilet paper seperately? i m kind of fond of my my toilet, spent alot of time with her and i dont wanna replace her, she been faithfull all those years.

Totally agree. The amount of times ive had cusotmers machines back moaning about slow performance in games, what do you find? Hardrive full of spyware and viruses, fragmented to hell, ancient drivers, running shit antivirus programs like Norton, some people have more than one anti virus program running one guy had four running at once. I'm never surprised that people get "Problems".

/rant over.
