Collectors Edition or Standard?

I am having a very hard time dishing out the 80-90 bills for the collectors edition.  Is it really worth it do you think?  The 2 bonus items are what is interesting me, the ring for faster XP seems cool but how much more XP do you acctually get?  The cloak for free drinks is kind of confusing, whats the effects of the drinks? are they for fun like beer that will blurr your vision or are they for power/manna regen like in EQ2?

Also, who are you guys pre-ordering from? GameStop is giving out the war manmouth and I've read but was unable to confirm from their website that BestBuy is giving out the rhino.  I am either going to play a Demonologist or a Dark Templar I think but I can't decide which mount I should get, leaning towards the Rhino though.  Do you get anything extra with the rhino like you do with the manmouth (extra 8 slot bag)?

In-Game Item - "Ring of Asheron" - Gives 2% XP Modifier and 3% Stamina Regeneration

In-Game Item - "The Drinking Cape" - Free Drinks for Life!

That annswers your question for the ring. As for the cape, I am not a beta tester so to be honest I don't know. As you leveled up in EQ2 you had to drink more expensive drinks to regain mana at a reasonable pace, and those drinks add up. Its hard to imagine giving preorder accounts something so powerful. Id bet that drinking is more similar to the original EQ or WoW.

Check abuseoherplayerspayingmorebucksthanthem.com, they give an amazing offer where you get a god mode in game and you can kill everyone around even the invulnerables ones you get in becomeinvulnerableinammorpg.com.

I think the its just for the minigame drunken brawling.  I doubt the free drinks you get is for buffs.

I honestly couldnt bring myself to pay out for the CE...

I like my XP to come slower rather then faster!

I am happy to mooch free drinks off my friends!

Seriously though, the standard pre-order is £24 here, and the CE is £59.98... Thats just too much of a difference to me. There is only so much more I will personally shell out for a leatherette map, a book of art I will probably have seen most of, a soundtrack CD, and 'limited edition' packaging...

Everyone assumes that this XP ring is so worth it but I would hazard to say there is probably going to be XP rings that drop in-game also. I say this because Anarchy Online (Funcom game) also has XP rings that drop in that game. I also bet one drops before you get to 20 and finish the tutorial.

I personally would never pay an extra $30-$40 for a ring that is going to drop in-game, no doubt, and for a drinking cape... Power to anyone that wants to waste the money, to each his/her own. I have not beta tested, other than the PvP weekend, so I cannot verify my suspicions because one did not drop in the game before you got to Tortage. That does not prove anything though. They probably do not have all the items even in closed beta. I bet they also will not have them in open beta so people that were going to buy the CE just for the ring, don't change their mind and cancel it because they discover you can get one to drop in-game.

If all that excites you in the CE package are the two ingame items:

In-Game Item - "Ring of Asheron" - Gives 2% XP Modifier and 3% Stamina Regeneration
In-Game Item - "The Drinking Cape" - Free Drinks for Life!
then no by no means it is not worth the extra money spent.

I on the other hand am looking forward to my other goodies like the soundtrack, mount, books etc. The two items mentioned mean very little to me since I expect to find something better in game pretty fast. The rest of the goodies are waaaay more long lasting, so for me it is definitely worth it. :)

Seems like a waste of money to me... but then I'm a tight-fisted *******. Also, slow xp'ing doesn't bother me (as long as it isn't GRINDING).

Only Collector's Edition I ever got was Warcraft III because it came with all those bonus artbooks and stuff. I've never seen an MMORPG that had a collector's edition worth getting.

You don't really care about the in game items?

    but but...

the soundtrack will be all obtainable for free pretty much right away? (if you do such things that is... )

the art book will probably just be the concept art from the website etc?

the mounts are pre order goodies, not just CE?

I guess you get  the leatherette map and the 'limited edition box' though...

I mean, I am stoked for this game and all, but I cannot believe they are charging an extra £36 for these bits and pieces.

Each to their own tho :)

Yeh i definently decided against the CE.

Can someone confirm that the Rhino is obtained through Best Buy pre-order? It doesn't mention anything about bonus items on their website.  Also is anyone worried that some companies won't get the pre-order activation codes out before May 14th?

What do most of you guys think about Manmouth vs Rhino?

  • MaldachMaldach Member Posts: 399

Just pre-ordered the standard game at Best Buy today. Rhino mount is really all I wanted. CE didn't impress me. The cape, the ring and the map aren't worth another 40 bucks.

edit: Boost, yes the Rhino is the pre-order item from Best Buy, it's on the back of the box.

  • ElRenmazuoElRenmazuo Member RarePosts: 5,361

It looks like amazon.com lowered the price for the CE, I dont know for how long but its $78.99.  I dont realy care since im still getting the standard, just letting you people know if you have not already.

O yeah I also meant to ask if the Best Buy pre-order gives you an activation code to download the game on May 14th?  Or does it just give you the game when it comes out on the 20th?

Anyone know if these items are for ONLY the first character you create or will each character get them. I hope its not a one time only thing because II am an altaholic

I picked up the Collectors Edition just for giggles.  A

I like rings  and I have looked through my jewelry box and though a few cost close to 100 times the CE box, not a single one gives me 2% more XP when I wear it.

As for the free drink cloak... I am a woman, aren't all drinks free?  I didn't know people paid for drinks, when did this change happen?

I really did'nt want to part with the $120 it costs in my country for the little you get in the CE, the rings cool and all but the normal preorder comes with the nice looking rhino mount, i'd rather have that. The Warhammer CE on the other hand I will be getting, because theres a lot of good ingame stuff, like the heads and extra quests and quite a few exclusive items.

I don't mind paying the extra bit of money, but the CE is all sold out where I'm looking

  • VultureSkullVultureSkull Member UncommonPosts: 1,774

I got the CE because it is not every month that a new MMO comes out.

Also a normal game costs £30 in the UK, maybe £35, so paying double, £60, for an MMO that will, if it is good, last me for the next 3 to 4 years is nothing.

The item i am paying for is the XP ring and possibly the Drinking Cap as the artwork and other stuff mean nothing to me, however the map may come in use every now and again.

thats what I would like to know, if its only for the first character, its definitely not worth it to me.  However if you can get them on every new character you make, its worth it.

  • BoosthungryBoosthungry Member Posts: 137

I read that atleast the mount will be available for each character u create, I would assume the same applies to the CE items.

  • AznmaskAznmask Member Posts: 178

i still hesitate on deciding which one to get because it is tough decision. The difference is like $30 for the collector edition and you get fancy metal box, leathermap, ingame ring, cup.. soundtrack cd.. etc.

The important thing is... i never play this game, and i can't judge it by those video in youtube. I'm personally are little picky on choosing mmorpg. If i bought this game and i dont like it.. then i wont play it.. then there goes my $50 or $80 collector's edition.

  • kikinchazkikinchaz Member UncommonPosts: 562

Yeah its pretty expensive here in the UK for what you get really. Ive got the standard edition on preorder with the Mammoth mount from Game for £22.49 with £2.50 of my reward points :) Extremely excited for the 17th. Just gotta wait a week now, sad face :(

One of the reasons i'd be swayed towards getting the CE if i had aloada cash would just be the sheer quality factor. MMO Special Editions are usually really nice. If anyones got the Collector's Edition of GW:Nightfall you'd see what i mean - that boxset is of brilliant quality and is such a nice set jam packed with content, spesh when I paid £10 for it New.

Its hard holding myself back from exploring much of the CB as i want it all to be fresh and new come launch.
