Best Party of Four

penandpaperpenandpaper Member UncommonPosts: 174

Well, it's finally happened - The three friends I grew up with playing table top D&D (quite extensively) have finally decided to try an MMO.  One is extremely experienced (Couple of 60th lvls on EQII), and the other two are true newbies.  I've palyed DDO, but only solo, and do not have a character above 3rd level.

So my question is this: What four classes do you think would be good, taking into consideration the experience levels between us?  Remember, they're aware of the ruleset, fantasy lore, etc.  But not actually playing a game as in depth as an MMO.  The most in depth game they've played has probably been Ultima I, II, and III.  (I know, we're old!)

Looking forward to your input.  We start this coming Thursday.  Can't wait!

PS - My wife asked why DDO and not EQII or Vanguard.  Well, one of our friends has a phobia now that he'll become addicted like the atypical WOW player, and is ademant that he spends no more than two nights a week playing (2-4 hours).  Which is what I play anyway, so it works out for me.  So I think this is the perfect game.  I've enjoyed it thoroughly so far.

Well, its really depends on what races you guys choose, any Warforges amongs you? ... if we leave races and Multi-class builds alone, I would say: Fighter, Cleric, Rouge and Wizard.

This isnt the strongest combo, but each of you will have very different roles in the group, which I consider more important than raw power you would get from a Tank x2, Cleric and a rouge1/wizard15 combo, or another sick multi-class built group...my point is - it doesnt matter that much, you will be able to tackle alot of the content anyways

Four people with a balanced group can tackle most of the content, and as you will all be new or newish to the quests DDO is the perfect game for it, because you can actually play as a team.

    I am almost jealous.

Group suggested makes a lot of sense to me.

Yeah I'm almost jealous too, all four starting out together new. I get in not knowning a soul and it's all PUGs, which is fine, but semi rushed.

As for grouping. I'm all for playing what you find fun. For example, I'd hate to have to play a cleric, when you really wanted to play a sorc or a wiz because your other friend decided they wanted to play a sorc or a wiz.

What server are the four of you starting on?

I'd also like to know your experiences once the four of you get in and tackle a few dungeons, what you liked, or did not like. Goodluck to the four of you!

    Ok I'm very jealous...
