I had kind of fallen out of the mmorpg loop for a bit, so now that I'm back I notice CoH is out. I had a few questions for current players, since I'm contemplating getting this game:
1. Is combat fast? I hate slow combat, it's why I left many games. Since the main thing I'll be doing is fighting, I don't want that to be boring.
2. Do I have to group? Sometimes I'm antisocial and want to adventure alone. Can I do this reliably into higher levels?
3. How fast is leveling? Does it seem fun and well-paced, or does it drag on in an endless treadmill?
4. Cool stuff. How many cool superpower things do you get to do? If you feel like it, can you leap from building to building, or fly around for no apparent reason? Do these abilities mean you have to tone down your combat skills?
5. City of Villains. This is the thing that made my radar bleep up again for this game. If I get the game and have a hero, will I be able to convert him to a villain later on?

1)Combat is very fast in this game, if you build up your char good you can mow down mobs like nothing.
2) Once again No but imo grouping is an awesome expereince in this game and is so much easier than most other mmorpgs out there today.
3)Levling is fast early on, but later on you do want to get in some good groups(3-4) no bigger because than it won't be worth it.
4)Yes you can do all of these and they don't effect your other superpowers....unless your using flying while trying to fight.

I concur with the others...combat is fast and fast paced. Very very fun, one of the best parts of the game. I tend to disagree a little here with the others. You CAN solo, but only with certain character types. There are a lot of 'classes' that are almost impossible to solo with as they are specifically designed to be 'support' characters, but grouping is incredibly well balanced with the right mix of characters bringing an amazingly rewarding experience. Well, being a veteran of both DAoC and Shadowbane, its medium. You have to be effecient to level quickly. But...you get past the early lowbie levels fairly quickly so that you can start enjoying some of the 'cool' higher level powers. No, it's pretty well balanced. All classes get nice 'travel' power options described just as you wrote that do not eat into the nice combat stuff. This is still under discussion. I see a lot of activity on the COH boards, but it certainly hasn't been decided yet on whether you will be able to do this. IT IS a distinct possibility though as there is a large movement of people who support this.Superstar Sam

1. Yes combat is very fast paced, and fun.
2. Do I have to group? Sometimes I'm antisocial and want to adventure alone. Can I do this reliably into higher levels?
2. I keep seeing people post that you can, and i know you can but dont try to be a Defender or a Controller for this because ....well you cant.
3. How fast is leveling? Does it seem fun and well-paced, or does it drag on in an endless treadmill?
3. Yeah leveling is fast (But EXP Debt doess suck)
4. Cool stuff. How many cool superpower things do you get to do? If you feel like it, can you leap from building to building, or fly around for no apparent reason? Do these abilities mean you have to tone down your combat skills?
4. Alot of cool powers (More being added i hear) And you can Fly and Jump and Run Fast all you want
5. City of Villains. This is the thing that made my radar bleep up again for this game. If I get the game and have a hero, will I be able to convert him to a villain later on?
5. No you wont be able too.

Hail to the King, baby.
1. Combat can be very fast, sometimes TOO fast. For lots of fun, arresting sometimes entire groups at once, I recommend a blaster with some good AoE (area of effect) damage powers, like a Fire Blaster.
2. I really enjoy grouping, as it allows you to experience some of the more challenging aspects of the game with friends. BUT, I do't feel like I ever HAVE to group with a high-damage character, like my Scrapper or Blaster.
3. Difficult question - levelling can be very fast with an AoE character, slower without. It is all about your play-style. If levelling is the most important thing to you, it CAN be done quickly, solo or grouped.
4. I have been playing since just before release, have 4 alts over lvl 30, and have NEVER, EVER run out of times where I have said, "Wow - cool power!" There are so many in this game, it would take a long time to run out of "cool factor".
