I asked a similar question when I coded the MMORPG Finder. I set up the stats of the over 7000 searches, what feature was the most important. See the graph HERE ...3rd graph down. Not surprising to me, Gameplay is the main thing people lookk for.
One thing I always find lacking in every MMO I play is character customization (skill wise). I have yet to see a MMO that even comes close to the level of customization I would like to see.
PvP is why I like MMORPG's. The system in 12 sky is real good. It groups the fighting into different levels that you can move up through as your character improves. The one thing I like is how you almost have to use teamwork to win. you can 'lone wolf' it but, you better be good.
The most important feature is not on there .. It is player freedoms and the the ability to do what you want in a game rather than have excessive limitations. In your life you are only limited by physical ability, financial means, and intelligence.. why are you so much more limited in games? I play them to have fun.. bein g restrained in what I can and cannot do in a game is not fun it is like going to prison.

LOL, I was just using your finder like 10 minutes ago. Great tool by the way. Shadowbane came back as the game I should play.
I love character customization. Being able to build an awesome, unique-looking character is something that is very important to me when looking into MMOs in general. Also, I can't stand a game that has dull combat, and I've long yearned for a twitch-based title with a good bit of strategy mixed in.
Being forced to choose between the two, I'd take combat, simply because it seems to be harder to find. However, give me both a deep character customization system and very fun combat, and I would happily fork over my credit card information.

I would have said...its all about the game play, which covers a broad number of areas of course.
What I really look for these days is a game that doesn't follow the WOW/EQ model of an end game focused on PvE raiding as a principal component of the end game. Also, I want the PVP to have meaninful impact on the world, and not be restricted to battlegrounds.

OK, so what on the list would you like to see more free? For me it would be character customization.

for me it is what is available to do on one character.. Classes are limiting, what there is actually available to do in games is limiting, chat features are limiting.. I say make everything the game has to offer available on one character.. and add many areas available to do things. like make all items in game can be player made, and areas to do that in that do not invlove npcs. Make many areas for pvp differnt types of fighting as well as anything goes areas. Siege areas, ship war areas, 1vs 1 same level , multicombat areas, like make it so on one game you can do everything .. just in different areas, and include many noncombat skills as well so that no matter your mood, or player type there is something to do in the same game on the same player. If they took all options available to each class and placed thema all on one character it would seem like your options were limitless, that would have a more real feel to it. Players appearance and what they are capable of in game should have nothing to do with each other. I would liek to see a game where you have a player that has alot of customization in appearance and then has everything in the game available to train as alittle or as much as you want. that way if you feel like maging you can or if you feel like ranging you can and do not have to make new characters to accomplish this. The idea that you have to balance the game with classes is an illusion .If all players can do everything in game as little or as much as they want .. that leaves the choices up to the players as to what they do that day rather than making the decsions for them.
