New player looking for help...

in Final Fantasy XI

No, I dont want your gil.  I just recently bought this game for the 360.  Ive played it before, never really got anywhere though.  I always end up feeling lost and alone.  Now that wouldnt be a problem if this game wasnt so party oriented, but since it is I need some help.  Im on the Bismarck server and was just wondering if anyone here could point me in the direction of some good FAQS, websites that i could try to find a linkshell to join on, or hell if you have a linkshell i could join that would be swell!

Basically i just need some people to show me the ropes, help me get my foot in the door.  People that I could play with and socialize with.

I would have posted this in the linkshell section, but it doesn't look to active.  So if anyone has the spare time to help me out, my In game name is Savant, my AIM is atrueidealist, or simply just reply to this post!

    If you're completely new, why not find a Linkshell you like the sound of and then join their server as opposed to choosing the server first.

    I'm on Kujata, so I can't help you in-game. But I can offer advice if need be. Anyway, make sure to check the stickies at the top of this forum. They have sites that should be able to help you to understand things and even the Playonline website has a new players guide. Anyway, hope that helps.

    Thanks for the info guys. I do appreciate it.  I would join a linkshell on another server but i think i have a whitemage already around level 15 on bismarck.  Maybe i should just look for any linkshell though, and start again  Im really looking for a social aspect to this game.  I feel thats what I can never find in alot of MMO's.  Just a good group of people to play and hang out with.

    You are at a good lvl to start looking for a linkshell. I would start asking people you party if they have linkshells that don't mind newer players. Some do not want new players in them but there are plenty that will take anyone have people of all lvl ranges. My social ls has anyone from beginners to seasoned veterans.

    if your time invested in your whitemage is more than you can stand to lose try shouting in jeuno or a main city (just one shout don't get annoying) "/sh are there any large social shells looking for members". this should fetch you a good few tells which will populate you with noobs and vets alike.

    Make sure to set your Bazaar Comment to "new player looking for friendly linkshell" or something like that... I'm pretty sure every server is chock full of social shells.
