You'll find most servers lacking in population but that just means that the Supergroups are tighter knit. But the most active Servers are freedom and Virtue... Virtue being the fave among RP'ers... I'd say Freedom is the best way to go though... With the awesome community in CoH you'd have no problem.
During a recent "double rewards" weekend promotion in February, the game had more concurrent users than ever before.
So much so that even after hardware upgrades Freedom had to have max population lockouts for most of that weekend. (And for the life of me I don't know why nobody ever mentions this when they say which servers are most populated. Folks sure seemed to notice at the time.)
Additionally I think right now there's been a bit of a population flux toward villains from the more-popular heroes. This is likely players pushing up to level 50 to earn the upcoming Villain epic ATs.
So absolutely not dying. It's doing very well. In fact they just hired a bunch of new staff specifically to develop for CoX.
Yea like the previous posters' said, Freedom is the most populated server; There are ALWAYS people on it. All of my characters are on Freedom (and the VG I'm in). CoV is a really cool game; The only one ive ever payed a monthly for to be honest lol. Give it a shot
Strangely CoX has never stagnated population wise. Its been fluctuating at a helthy population from the beginning. About 150k-250k. With about 3 peaks and 3 valleys over the years.
I have a suspicion it is currently growing, but we will have to wait until NCSoft releases numbers again. Which, unlike many companies, they actually do.
I think CoX may reach well over 300k in the future. NCsoft obviously wants to grow the game, since they have/are doubledindoubling the dev staff (according to Positron). And the last few issues have definitely been pro growth issues, more content, more powerset combos, more ATs. Those are the things that draw people in and keep old players playing.
I don't know if it will last and it will depend on what they add. Who knows what the player generated content will do? It will be interesting to see.
