I use an 8800gts 320mb and the game played well on medium maxed out and on high without shadows. I had a little more lag on 5/10 but nothing that created a huge headache.
I have a 8800GT 512 card, and had max settings with about 30-60fps. On the PVP event however I had about 20fps, lowered the shader and had 30-40 again. You can't just expect a graphic card to do all the dirty work though, everything in the computer ties together. If you have a high end card, but a single-core cpu or somethings its going to bottleneck and you will still see the lag.
I have 2 Geforce 8800GT cards setup using SLI. I was able to run on full settings in many areas, but had to turn down the graphics in some spots like Tarantia.
I have also tried the game before I used SLI, but had to run it at considerably lower settings. I think with one 8800GT you can run it in most locations without problems at medium settings. Just don't turn on bloom or AA.
naw im not too worried about my system, but i have 2 cards atm an ATI Radeon H2600 pro and a 8500 GT, but i figured it was too low, and thinking of buying another new card. didnt have a clue on what to get for this game, thats why this survey
nVidia 8600GT. All settings on high with bloom off, shadows off and shaders set to 2.0. View was 2500m-3000m. Ran fine with a generally consistent 20-25fps.
I haven't tried it with the latest beta drivers as I was working out some driver crashes not game related. I used the December 07 drivers for the above.
I only saw 40-60FPS a couple of times for half a minute or so at a time but trully I had a decent time at 20-25 (other than in a group which is a known issue.)
8800gt 1024MB, core 2 Duo 8400, 8 Gig Ram, Vista64.
I did run DX9 high settings whatever this is (I didnt check in detail, DX10 not available). Gfx were smooth enough for me (30+ fps), some hickups, some texture loading (or whatever) when entering levels/ rooms.
There is no right or wrong - There is only fun and boring.

If you have 159.99 get an 8800GT from NewEgg, you really can't beat the cost/performance.

And only 30+ frames?! Yikes. In that case, I'm thinking the Hal9000 or a NASA super-computer should be getting around 45 FPS.
Insane.

Well never less than 30 fps is all you need. Why would I want an average 60fps on a rpg game?
Graphics performance is the least problem of AoC imho, with those high textures and detailed meshes you couldnt expect higher framerates. Also note that I used high settings without tweaking for performance (as I didnt care to do so).

I think average fps greater than 30 would be better as it gives you some wiggle room when your performance takes a hit for whatever reason.
I'm playing on medium settings and I have an ati1950 pro 256 mb card. Performances in the instances is very smooth. Performance outside of instance slows down but is playable. Most of my experience so far has been solo play though so when you throw in a group of peeps not really sure what kind of performance hit I will take.
I did beta with an Nvidia 7900 GT 256MB, 2GB RAM and a Core 2 Duo (forget the exact name). It ran on medium at 30-40 FPS. I had a few settings cranked up a little higher.
Single 8800 GTX 765mb, Vista 64, 6gig Ram, 2.4ghz quad Core processor
Runs really nice on high with AA and bloom turned on, 40-50fps, but this can drop to 35fps in busy towns. Not sure what will happen in heavy pvp, but will probably have to turn off bloom. Turning off bloom now doubles my fps. Gd know what will happen when DX10 starts working.

This is the system I ran the game on.
Everything on...shadows, bloom, 1680x1050 res. Maintained a 60fps most of the time.

Sorry did not use medium settings as the game was quite enjoyable on high settings. 8800gtx. My FPS was between 40-70.
