I was just reading a few threads on a bunch of different forums. Now first off, you can flame me for never posting and blah blah blah as you do to ppl who dont post very often.
However, I frequent many forums, and just tend not to post often unless I have first hand knowledge about the discussion at hand...
And when It come to Xbox360 I do have first hand knowledge as I work for them directly. I am currently employed by Microsoft on the Xbox360 team.
TO ADD to that I AM NOT AN XBOX fanboy and dont even own one, Im a PC gamer at heart.
However, the 360 is MORE than capable of Running AoC to ppl who dont believe that it can, your probably the same ppl who didnt think that FFXI was possible on a console, or Oblivion.
I do know the exact specs of the console , and it is more than likely more powerful as a dedicated gaming machine than about 75% of the home computers on the market currently even if it is 2.5 years old.
The only CPU's that can actually claim they are more powerful are the top end CPU's that gamers tend to customer build. So yes it is VERY plausible to run AOC on the Xbox360 Console.
NO you will not have to have GOLD XBOX Live to play it. YES you will have to sub to AOC on the Console to play it. But ALL subscription based games are playable with Silver xbox Live, meaning, just plug the console into the internet.
Now you can flame me all you want and call me a fanbois or w/e you'd like, I just call it as I see it.

I think we will be looking at a spring release next yr for the xbox and they have officially said too that they wont Force PC gamers to be on the same server as the 360 players, and vice versa, but there will be the option for them to play on the same server though.
I think its a very capable machine, just will depend on the net connection of the user too.
I work for Microsoft, And no where did I claim to be a programmer. I work for xbox :P Why would i go work for Funcom . hehehe.
I am not making claims about how its going to operate in relation to the PC version ( which I will be playing) but I just wanted to toss some credible info about the 360 out there for all the nay sayers about the consoles ability to play it
Question: I agree that Consoles can out perform PCs; just look at PS3 graphics--surreal. Now here's my queston...why don't the consoles have any real mmo to offer the PC crowd?
FFXI was a console mmo 1st ---that later came to the PC

O I C, didnt really ever get into that game so didnt know that, I knew it was an MMO first being on the console, but wasnt Phantasy Star online or w/e its called before FFXI , or after?
You had Phantasy star online for the Dreamcast,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phantasy_Star_Online
and you also had EQOA (Everquest Online Adventures) for the PS2

Sorry they aren't clickable
Both were out before FFXI.
yeah but there is a Phantasy Star Game for the Xbox, just not sure when it came out or what its called exactly :P too lazy to check the game database :P
fixed for you
Why, thank you!
Phantasy Star universe also.
Actually, that came out in 2006, after FFIX, but no worries

I know that, I am just posting another mmo on a console. Plus I own both FF11 for PC and 360 and I sold back PSU cuz it sucked imo.

Ahh, my bad then . It did suck, i saw FFXI on a friend's PS2 and I was horrified by the graphics, lolSeriously, for those who didn't have a pc, it was an interesting way to play an mmo .
Phantasy Star BB was the first online RPG on a console far as I know but it was far from MMORPG much like Universe.
FFXI bought the true MMO experience to consoles, massive amounts of people in areas, the grind and grouping with people at random without going back to port ect ect. BB and Universe are like very low tech versions of guild wars in their mission structure, with far less people in one spot per shard and no "open" areas which even guild wars had.
As for PSU, I got it for $20 new, a month after its release on ebay =P Apparently it bombed real bad but I found the singleplayer campaign enjoyable even if it wasnt to others.
I don't think anyone doubted whether the 360 had the horsepower. What people are doubting is the storage capacity.
If it takes this long to load a zone on a PC, reading off a hard drive, how long will it take to load off a disc?
What will likely happen is that the graphics will be compressed a TON and optimized for one graphics setting. Hopefully they can stuff it into just 1 disk and try to cache as much as possible (assuming it can take advantage of the hard drive).
I have a feeling that this one will be demainding the use of the 120 gig hard drive just to put on all the files for quicker access.
Although I must say it is a very strange decision to go over to the Xbox 360 as if you think the community on AoC is bad on the PC the Xbox 360 community is a whole lot worse, even if it is a minority there are bad mouthed kiddies everywhere.
Also as soon as you put down "monthly subscription required" the whole forums kick off with complaints about that.
It will be interesting to see if it gets many long term subscribers on a console but I am not holding my breath.
I still dont see hows its possible at the mo. The current PC version will most probably ship on 2 DvDs, and will take at least 24GB of hard drive space.
Now most 360s only have the 20GB disks, some dont even have a HDD. So unless theres a rapid price reduction in Xbox 360 HDD's, or funcom find a way to compress the data to fit on less then 20GB, i realy dont see alot of people playing this on the console. Then ofcourse theres patches/ screenshots/ othergames save data ect so they would have to work out a way to get it to less then a 16GB install for it to be realistic.
Thats gunna be hard work
Tell the truth I don't mind AoC coming to the 360, I think it will be great for people who just don't want to spend the money on a killer PC. And well it was going to happen sooner then later if you think about it.
Really I feel you'll get some of the foul mouthed kiddies on there for a bit, chances are most will get bored and go running back to Halo.
I won't even go down the 'you can use a USB keyboard' route, but it has, if they wanted to use it for MMORPGs, a very neat mini keyboard that expands the basic controller. It's meant to be used for messaging and whatever obviously, but no reason at all a MMORPG dev couldnt utilise it to expand the options for a MMORPG. This costs £24.99 (UK), so it's well within most peoples range I would think.
I have had the '360 as a MMO platform' discussion a few times on these boards, saying bascially the same as the OP. People saying that the 360 is somehow gonna suffer from the transition either dosent know what a modern console is capable of, or just has the PC user's 'leet' syndrome. I have always said that the 360, still, out performs at least 2 thirds of the 'average' casual gamer's rigs out there.
This forum alone over the past 2 weeks or so has proven why the console will become the preferred platform for massive online gaming over the next 2-3 years.
I think it's probably not too unrealistic to say that the next generation of consoles will kill off home PCs altogether as their uses converge.
the 120gb hd is not standard for the 360, but i guess people will need it when they want to play AoC on it. And microsoft will be happy to sell them the drives with a nice profit margin. Would have been a lot better for people if microsoft went same way like sony and gave peopel the option to use standard harddrives in the console.

Funny thing is , that most Larger Games on the 360 Console are designed to take advantage of the consoles HDD capabilities by caching files on the HDD. Oblivion and Halo3 are good examples.Secondly , The Game doesnt HAVE to come on one Disc. The console is Designed to Install files just like any Windows Operating System. So Mulitple Disc Installs are IN. ( See Oblivion and it expansions. Which were all released on different discs you could install)
Secondly, we dont know exactly how long it will take to load a zone at this point, as with ALL mmo's it will not be fully optimized for a couple months Im guessing as they tweak things here and there. It also depends on what type of system your running. If your running a HDD thats max RPM is 7200 then obviously you will load slower than somone with Raptor's at 10K rpm.
On the Console side.....O right , theres no RPM on the HDD, its basically a giant USB Stick drive. With **Cough** the CPUs to manage data transfer.
Yes , thats right, the Xbox 360 is a TRI core system. Well ahead of your Dual cores.
/flame away
Did Microsoft change their stance that no game should require a hard drive?
In any case, I personally don't see there being a huge issue. Funcom knew way ahead of time, during the development process, that they will eventually be making a 360 version. Stores already have the 360 version listed in their websites. I don't think technology is going to be a problem.
Do we know whether or not 360 and PC users are going to play on the same servers?
