From FUNCOMs Q1 report..

"Age of Conan is

currently the most anticipated MMO in the World.

As is to be expected so close to the launch, the

game is on top of the anticipation list on dedicated

MMO sites."

"Funcom has received some pre-order data from its

co-publisher SCi Eidos, but it does not have a

complete aggregated global overview of the number

of pre-orders for the game. Different retail chains in

various markets have different processes with

respect to collecting and reporting pre-order

numbers. The Company interprets the data it has

received as positive and is part of the data

foundation for the scaling of the server park. The

pre-order numbers in some retail chains track as

among the highest for any MMO launche"

preorders don't mean much, we'll see in 6 months how many people decide to stick around. As for being the most anticipated MMO, being the only western MMO to be coming  soon, it damn well better be.

I would not be surprised if Funcom does not report its subscriber numbers

    - ala Turbine and SOE

The way i've seen it so far, and heard from gamestop here where I live. There has been a pretty big influx of preorders in the last 5-8 days. Now, I'm sure there have been a bit of cancelled ones also. I'm pretty positive though that the first month of age of conan is going to be pretty high in numbers. We'll just have to see how well people adapt and take to the new style and combat system.

preorders mean nothing, I'm sure lots of people preordered Vanguard but you can't say that was a great game. Lets see the subscriber base in about 6 months to a year to see how popular it is.

I dis-agree to a certain extent that pre-order's mean nothing, every pre-order is a potiental sub, this game like any other wont be for everyone but the more people that do try it there is a chance of more subs.

The problem with AoC is it faces 2 barriers,1.ppl dont like the game,2.there pc doesnt like the game,so they will lose a few subs to both these points.

I agree we will have to see where the game lie's in say 6 months but anyone that thought this game was going to be some sort of WoW killer etc has alway's had there head in the clouds, the age requirement, the need to have a decnt rig and the newer combat system will displease some and keep the subs down anyway,to the one's like me that pass the 3 points I made will be in for alot of fun!

If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

I agree, except about the age requirement.

Sadly funcom has already stated they will not enforce the age rule, and that anyone who is able to purchase the game will be allowed to play. That means anyone who has access to an adult will have no issues buying and  playing Age of Conan, which is kind of sad, but there really is nothing you can do about it.

Funcom is a publicly traded company ala Blizzard, NCSoft, and as such is required to provide data on numbers.

Turbine is privately owned i.e: We could care less what everyone thinks about us..

This is the reason some press releases read like sales reports to stock holders...

Anyone  who knows anything about financial reports like this know they will try to spin anything that make them look better (i.e. Hillary Clinton).  Not providing exact numbers means its all based on THEIR interpretation. The source is about as bias as these forums.

As far as I know they have shareholder's so it would serve no point it saying the game is doing better than it is,everyone wants to be paid remember..

It's pretty obvious that the game is going to be huge. The collectors edition is completely sold out and some stores aren't even carrying the regular game anymore.

  • XcomhuntinXcomhuntin Member Posts: 14

I hope the game has a good launch, but I wont play it for at least 6 months so they get fix all the launch bugs ( if any ). Def looking forward to seeing it tho.

You know...I do not need the game to be huge sales wise, but well made, and 250k scrips is a good decent number to shoot for in my opinion.

All I know is I was pleased and will be seeing 2 scrips here (me and the wife)

Yet, after a year still plays like crap, is not dual core enabled and the models are ugly as all get up...with stilted animations and the new skeletal system brought on new bugs..

Vanguard needs another year...while for me AoC was playable...now!
