I want to share with you my recent experiences in PVP
I'm level 50,Privateer, Spanish, and I belong to a Society.
- Saturday Afternoon: I attended to a Port Battle.... a lot of tension while we were arranging everything in the waiting room, then the forming of lines, and the tension mounted when we sailed towards the enemy line.... our group had the mission to cut the enemy line... we charged, I was fourth in the line... the first 2 ships went demasted and had to turn... I kept sailing, crossed the line firing left and right... and then I found myself with another spanish, between two angered Brit lines firing on us... I sailed down the wind, hittin all my repairs, firing at random.... One small enemy frigate sailed to intercept me... I sunk her in two broadsides... at last I reached our lines... I looked up... only 3 of our group still alive, but enemies were in complete disarray and they had lost more ships....my brother in his expensive heavy frigate still afloat... battle ended with a Spanish victory...
- Sunday evening: I went to pass the time near a red circle... other 2 guilmates near, so I grouped... one of them was ganked and was trying to escape... in the meanwhile, we detected a lone enemy ship... we two went to intercept... we attacked... and another 5 enemies joined... so there we were, 2 ships versus 6, outgunned, and leeward.... I told my mate "Run if you can"... and I turned TOWARDS the enemy, close-hauled.... I passed between the enemy ships, firing bar shot left and right, reparing sails as they were firing me... one small Bermuda sloop was in front of me... I prepared to board him... he quickly moved out of the way....I kept moving upwind... all the enemies turned towards me... my friend escaped... the Bermuda was gaining on me.... but at last I escaped too.... still are those players wondering how I could do it... and me too :-)
- Sunday night: I log on... other society members were recruiting a heavy frigate group for PVP in the red.... I joined... a lot of time waiting to be 6... at last we move on... we were waiting.... an enemy 6 man group attacked... battle started... 6vs6... I was in a Conquistador Sleek... not the best ship for line fighting... we started to fight.... 2 enemies had to wear down to avoid being killed and to repair....they rejoined behind our line and started to pound our sterns... our last ship was damaged, I let him pass and I blocked the shots on his stern...one of our ships went down.... a lucky shot sank also the one I was protecting.... now, I was the target... quickly my armor went down... I broke the line and started to flee... but the 2 pursuing enemies started to chase me... they were gaining... at last I could start repairing my sails... in the meantime, my other 3 mates sank one of them... my 2 pursuers turned to close against my mates.. I turned too and started to rejoin... they turned again to chase me... I turned too... so my mates had time to even the numbers finishing another 2 enemies.... now was 4 of us against 3 enemies, but we were severely damaged. We kept moving downwind, discussing what to do... I was regrouping with them... we decided kept fighting... we closed... one of us went down, as I couldn't block him being leeward... but a couple of well landing stuns and one of them was surrounded and quickly went down... the other 2 started to flee... we chase them, one of them stopped to give the other a chance to escape... we sank him while the last enemy fled. So we lost 3 ships, they lost 5. A great battle
These things make me love this game, and keep paying subscriptions.
I'm a casual player, I took 2 months to reach L50. My ships weren't top-ones (Heavy Deliverance and Conquistador Sleek)
You don't need to be a hardcore player to enjoy that PVP experience.

Then you should see some of the stuff being posted on the PotBS forums about how the "carebears" must be driven from the game. And even if you're just casual-PvP, you're not "hardcore" by their standards, so they lump you together with the carebears.
Some of the people here might see that you have never posted before and immediately accuse you of being a company shill, but frankly I'd rather be provided with evidence before making such statements. However, if I were you I would be prepared to answer to others for what you have written, because it does sound overly enthusiastic, when most people here have heard the horror stories about the game, if not experienced them first-hand.
Congrats kblack!
On being the first person on these forums to say something nice about potbs!
It sounds to me like pvp is one of the best things about the game, along with exploring.
However ive not played the game yet, about to start the trial though.
I would say it's not even that much. It's a PvP-for-PvP's-sake game. The larger context is by and far irrelevant.
