ippoippo Member UncommonPosts: 109

Im doing everything possible to get this game to play at least decently on this rig.Is their anything else i can do to squeeze every last drop out of this system.

My system

Asus A8v-xe (i know its a cheap mother board but my MSI k8n neo4 plat sli died

AMD 3800 x2 (@2.24) have the dual core optimizer

4gigs G-skill ram 2.5-3-3-6 3200 ( i know windows will only see 3-3.5 gigs, should i get  xp pro 64? Will i see a performance increase for gaming,ect?

xfx 8800gt 512 600/1800

running xp pro on my 120gig 7200 sata 1.5 8mb cache hdd, and my 250gig 7200 sata 3.0 16mb cache  for programs and apps, also one of my external harddrives for page fileing. Also my system has a fresh install of windows.

My monitor resolution is 1280x1024, will i get a performance increase if i get a 1680x1050 monitor so the cpu isn't bottlenecked ?

I also use the onboard network card and sound.Should i buy new ones?

Any ideas of what else i can do for AOC?

But will going up in res just give me better details but stay the same in terms of fps, or will i at least see some gains since the gpu is taking more work?

64bit will not always out perform 32-bit.

XP DOES support 4GB of RAM with the right CPU but will only show 3.25, the full 4GB will be used though. I believe yours should have PAE (Physical Address Extension) which allows it.

Increasing resolution will lower performance since it will render more pixels but on a 8800GT you will see maybe a 3-5FPS drop.

Forgot to add, It takes such little configuration to enable all 4GBs... Simply changing 1 sentence of text enables it. sigh and forgot to say this aswell.. If you have SP2 it automatically enables PAE so you don't have to worry or change anything.

Going to dissagree with the other poster. The 64 bit will not change anything for a game. Plenty of literature around on what 64 bit helps with.

The CPU is your bottle-neck. If you can swing it, a bit faster would help.

Try turning down some of the graphics settings on the card. I run an 8800 GTS 614 meg, but a P4 3.8 ghz. Mine just flat cranks it out.

The game is so pretty that turning it down some doesn't take much away.

Monitor shouldn't make much of a change for the money.

The RAM should not be a problem. I'm running the same amount without any problems.

Again.. 64bit wont out perform 32 even then unless the 64bit hardware is just plain better than the 32bit and requires that 64bit architecture. I can run my old Athlon64 X2 on both 32 and 64 with near exact results. Same with my Intel x86. All depends on the hardware.
