About that particular video?  Nothing.  It only displayed some scenery and a few snippits of obnoxious particle effect infused combat.  I could go into the horridness of the actual gameplay if you wish me to, from the god-awful UI to the game having the absolute worst combat system of any MMO.  There's that whole thing where NPCs can shoot players through walls and that you can be standing on top of an NPC and still not be able to attack it, while it is whacking away at you.

Besides, having a particle slider on the test server does nothing to reduce the particle effects on display in the video you linked to.

I liked the graphics for the fonts "Star Wars" and how they showed active avatars in them. The textures looked good in the temple.  Space still looks good. And yavin is the best looking planet.  I see they have still blown off fixing the skies with the stars appearing through moons and such. Man thats just 2 images and after 5 years...I bet fishing poles still don't have a fishing line.   Oh and we are being ripped on here:

sigh this games graphics are getting so outdated.  I enjoy the game but man its depressing to look at almost 6 year old graphics and see that your game needs to be replaced with a shiny new one really soon due to plain old everyday age.  Its like watching pac man 5 years later when pc and console games had taken huge leaps  *heavy sigh*..

I like this game a lot but man we need a major graphics overhaul or maybe its just easier to make an entire new game not sure..

    sigh's more

    goes to bed :(

I'd probably still play SWG if character animations weren't so awful.

You move so horribly in that game, it feels so.... college student projecty.

The way that your enemies just go from standing up to warped down to the ground in the exact same spread-eagle position every time? Its f'ing horrible....

This exar kun stuff is such a waste of time.... Why not do a MISSION (dungeon should never be a term in Star Wars gameplay) where you fight against Rebels or Imperials? A good one.

I would say all sorts of things more, but seriously...... stop working on this game and just make a new one.

Not sure what's so wrong with the movement animations, they don't look any different from most other MMO's out there (and I even had a look through YouTube after reading your post ;) ).  Whenever I kill people, I see a death animation (there feet look to get knocked out from under them and they fall on their backs to the ground).  There are times when there's a lot happening in the area and the FPS has dropped that it seems to skip the animation, so I do know what you're talking about.

As for factional encounters, there is the upcoming Hoth encounter for Chapter 11 which will be all about Imperials vs Rebels.  The Imperial Star Destroyer encounter is somewhat factional, too.

If your toon is a Bothan or Rodian, the animation of them running is awkward at best.  It's because of the artificial speed up of the toons that was imposed (after having previously been overwhelmingly rejected by the playerbase) by the NGE...the "snappy movement" that destroyed a lot of the visual grace of the game.  They tried it once before and everyone hated it, but I suppose that they figured what the heck, we'll put it in, just like they did with the massive nerf of group XP that the NGE brought with it, the imposition of which had previously caused a meltdown of the account transaction server with cancellations.

The idiots were told it made the game look bad, but they did it anyway, because apparently looking like you're on crystal meth is "starwarsy" and "iconic".

CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

They did change the human and Zabrak character textures to make them look like long term meth users, so yeah, the developers do feel crystal meth is 'Starwarsy' and 'Iconic'.

The SWG animations are herky-jerky and somewhat awkward since they were sped up during the NGE. If you look at movement and combat in, say, CoX for example, you'll see it's much more fluid and realistic than SWG's Benny Hill movement (and yes, I've seen SWG recently thanks to a vet trial).

The mob death animations in SWG are terrible too. Again, check out CoX for some very interesting death animations. The laws of physics actually apply. During a kill shot, mobs can slump over, go flying back through the air flailing like a ragdoll, or if they're perched on a railing they fall over and straddle it or slide off it onto the ground.

How you get to the mindset that I am a dev or claim to be one? I am a player of the game only, I just posted a link to a video the devs just made to give a sneek peek at the new instance to people that have not been in it yet.

OF COURSE Obraik thinks the animations are just fine...

LMAO...  Never ceases to ignore glaring problems.  The animations are jerky, the motion isn't smooth, the engine isn't up to par.  Go play WoW, then play SWG and tell me that the movement is on par with other games, it's not.

It used to be that the game was so unique and entertaining we overlooked the physical limitations of the crap engine that its built on, but now the game itself is utter crap the problems make it worse.

SWG has perhaps the worst combat of any online game I've played, top that with obviously jerky motion and bad gameplay...  I can't believe people actually PAY to play this game...

That clip doesn't actually show much.  I thought what little they showed on the inside of the building looked pretty choppy.

Graphics aside, what is it like?  Is it another of those places where you work you way down to fight a boss, grab his waepon, deal is done?  Any storyline involved?

Any strategy to get to the bottom?

Was it what you hoped for?  Was it worth the wait?

Is there an equivalent for Light side Jedi?

  • GutboyGutboy Member Posts: 630

Yes there is a back story:

Exar Kun was a Jedi who found himself drawn inexorably toward the dark side of the Force. The story of the Sith Lord begins thousands of years before the Galactic Civil War, but his legacy still lives on.

    Path to the Dark Side

Exar Kun began his Jedi training under Jedi Master Vodo-Siosk Baas. Clashes with his fellow students on Dantooine ended in a violent confrontation, showing hints of the dark side influencing Exar Kun's emotions even at this early stage in his training. Kun also studied the history of the Sith, Force-wielders devoted to the dark side.

Kun's impatience to learn more about the Force took him away from his studies on Dantooine. As he traveled the galaxy, he encountered the spirit of the Dark Jedi Freedon Nadd.

The spirit of Nadd exerted his influence and Exar Kun turned to the Sith and the dark side of the Force.

    The Massassi

Freedon Nadd told Kun of Yavin 4, where an ancient Sith Lord had once conducted terrible experiments on the lifeforms inhabiting the jungle moon. On Yavin 4, Kun was attacked by the Massassi, descendants of the creatures created by the Sith Lord's experiments.

After Kun survived their attack by unleashing the power of the dark side, the Massassi accepted him as their leader. Exar Kun enslaved the abominations and forced them to construct temples of an ancient Sith design. These temples were built to focus the great energy of the dark side on Yavin 4.

One of the temples on Yavin 4 became Exar Kun's personal retreat. An imposing statue carved from black stone rested on top, towering over anyone who approached the temple.

Exar Kun studied Sith alchemy, creating horrific creatures on the moon of Yavin 4 with his experiments.

    The Sith War

Exar Kun eventually left the jungle moon for Cinnagar, where he encountered the dark Jedi Ulic Qel-Droma, who became his Sith Apprentice. The master and apprentice disappeared over the next several years. Exar Kun established the Brotherhood of the Sith during this time.

The Jedi Council, concerned about this growing threat, sent Kun's former master Vodo-Siosk Baas to speak with the Sith Lord. Exar Kun struck down the Jedi Master, and Vodo-Siosk's death sparked the Sith War.

The Jedi Knights battled the Sith in one of the bloodiest wars the galaxy would ever know. The war culminated in a battle on Yavin 4, where the Jedi Knights destroyed many of Kun's temples. Exar Kun, in a last effort, drew upon the life force of every Massassi. When his physical body was destroyed, his spirit lived on in the temple.

Exar Kun's essence remains trapped in his temple on Yavin 4. The Dark Lord of the Sith is far from powerless, and he bides his time in his domain, waiting for just the right opportunity to return.

    Hidden Underground

The mysteries of Exar Kun remain hidden even today as the evil buried there continues to seethe, waiting for a chance to rise once more… maybe sooner than expected. Currently, as the Galactic Civil War continues to rage, Rebel forces have moved into the Temple of Exar Kun. A team of archaeologists has been searching the remaining temples on Yavin 4 to find lost Sith artifacts.

While exploring the Temple of Exar Kun, the team stumbled upon undiscovered catacombs hidden deep underground. What will they discover in the depths of the temple? Find out in an exciting new heroic encounter coming in Chapter 9!

The instance is a large challenge, and requires a diverse group of players and requires you to use many different tactics as you go further into the instance. How you do damage, where you stand and move about, who attacks whom all play a large part into the success or failure. There are still many posts on the forums trying to figure out the correct process to advance (and there are quite a few ways to attack each problem in the instance). There is not a "correct" way to do this instance.

By far this is the most challenging and fun encounter in the game.
