``We spend too little time and offer too few specifics on that most important of questions,'' McCain, 71, said. ``We make promises, of course, about what kind of policies we would pursue in office. But they often are obscured, mischaracterized and forgotten in the heat and fog of political battle.''
Let's see if he remembers saying this during the general election. If he does run a respectable campaign, and manages to escape the republican parties penchant for 'non-issue' mud-slinging and political fear tactics, I will applaud him for it. I still think he is far too influenced by the republican structure, and when the polls slam him late in the cycle, the gloves will come off and he will attempt to win by any means necessary. Only time will tell.
You can't possibly be referring to his speech in Ohio today? His hopeful vision is to have our troops out by 2013?!? Gee, only five more years of soldiers dying and pissing away our money in the fucking desert. Great!
It'll all be worth it, though, because McCain will have captured Bin Laden, built a democracy in Iraq, made North Korea and Iran good guys, stopped global warming, found the formula to turn lead into gold and made the first contact with friendly aliens.
Sounds like typical McCain telling voters what he thinks they want to hear. Next week, he'll be saying something different to another crowd.

Cause what voters want to hear is we are going to be in Iraq another 100 years, and we aren't going to get jobs back that went overseas. I mean thats sure some damn good telling the voters what they want to hear. Its not like Hillary or Barrack have been doing this since they started thier campaign. He is simply stating clearly what he intends to do if he gets in the whitehouse. All presidential candidates do that.
If you looked at his reasons why he thinks we should stay in Iraq, it makes sense. He doesn't want to belly up admit defeat and bring soldier home in an atmosphere similiar to Vietnam. He also doesn't want to leave us vulnerable to potential backlash from extremists in the region and the negative image of pulling out. It would be like telling the Extremists, they won by blowing up innocent civilians and they might win again if they try it over here. Also he didn't say the fighting will continue for the next 5 years, but he hopes that it will end within his presidency.

To heck with that, Michele Obama is alot hotter to look at that then Barack, I'm voting for her. At least if I'm going to get screwed, it ain't gonna be by a dude!
John McCain just ain't that good lookin.......and no, it won't be good for me too.
LOL, Par-Salian.. Its going to happen.. Libs are so emotional.. They could not have a logical thought if you gave them some kind of drug to help them along. Ohh wait, do not have to do that. They are already on drugs. Would not have a effect.
Republican plan has been in effect since this last november. Libs did not even know it was there. Libs in my view=Tools
To you animal activists, got a question for you. Why do you leave your cities(95% of all Animal Activists come from major metropolitan areas) and go harass or mess with a hunter or even a farmer? I think you guys are idiots and should stay in your city. You guys have no F...ing clue!
The sad thing about this election is there is no good candidate only to decide which one will do the least amount of harm. I usually hate republicans but if obama and hilary were the best they could come up with .. I am voting mccain.. at least he won't do as much damage as the others.
The thing is I believe in healthcare reform .. just no one has a decent policy for that yet, instead their ideas cause more problems instead of fixing them. I am smart enough to know that before we went into Iraq .. there is no way we will be able to leave anytime soon, if ever.
No I don't want our brothers, sisters. mothers and fathers over there but I do undertsand it would be huge mistake to remove them. When we went into iraq we killed their defenses, those do not rebuild themselves overnight and you cannot expect them too, if we kill their defenses we must be their defense until they can defend themselves. If we pull our troops out too early we have just gave up the biblical site of armegeddon to all those wishing to come in and start it. The other countires did not enter iraq before because they were afraid of saddam and his armies, they do not enter now because they are afraid of us. We leave and they have no reason to stay out.
If we have a leader that is totally against war, other countries will view us as weak , because they will know that we will not attack, as long as they know that we could they will be forced to think greatly about their actions before proceeding with them. It is niave to think that we can have world peace without wars. World peace is something that cannot happen without wars simply because not everyone shares the same beliefs and desires and many of those beliefs include "dying for their gods" They view killing us as a good thing not bad and do not want peace they want a way to destroy us any way they can.
There are times that words are of no use, and that we must go to war. As ugly as it is , it is a fact of the cruel world we live in. No we cannot change the fact that we went into iraq, what has been done cannot be undone. We must tread that ground now very carefully, and not make rash decsions on whether or not to withdraw troops based upon emotion. We do have to think ahead very carefully in taking these steps because taking a wrong one could be devestating to the entire world, not just Iraq.
It has been proven attacks can and will take place here on american soil. If we appear weak in the least there are plenty of people out there that would gladly take any opportunity to attack us. These are things that need to be greatly considered in our presidential elections at this time.

I'm sorry but though you make some solid points this all sounds like the same-ole fear hearding that Bushy is synonymous for. So long as human beings exist there will be politics. So long as there are political bodies there will be wars, so ummm you can't have someone who doesn't want to go to war leading the country or you'll die! I have not heard / seen Obama openly state that he absolutely will not go to war. I have read interviews; wherein, he states that war should be the absolute final means of of accomplishing a goal.
Bottom line, Bush was angry, sadened, etc. when this happened. Anyone with any degree of managerial knowledge knows that it is never wise to make decisions when you are emotional. The fault does not totally lie with Bush (Congress and Americal in general shoulder their fair share), but when he pressures the intelligence community to find (read: make up) something as a means for him to "bring justice to America," then I have to pose the question - who is really making rash decisions here? Time passes and now the country, with a more clear prospective, sees that the emotional decision after 911 was perhaps not the best one. What's done is done but I felt back then as I do now - we were in no position, as a country, to even ponder the thought of war so soon after 911.
Attacks will take place, of that you may be assured. If not from without then certainly from within. So are we to be ready to throw down the card of WAR at the first sign of terror? Statistically speaking it's literally impossible to police and consider all the possible ways a terrorist attack could happen. Even at my job which deals with railroad freight I can think of no less that half a dozen ways a terrorist could "easily" do "something" that would result in catastrophic death rates. I'll jump off this tangent and back to the point. There will always be war. There will always be the fear of war. There will also always be the severe consequences present when a country decides to go to war - why then should war not be used as a last resort when every other possible avenue is exhausted?

We went to afganistion right after 911 which of course had emotion behind it but also a good reason. Also the CIA is to blame as they gave Bush the false info. It was becuase Germany did let the CIA talk the "informant"(not blaming Germany) When the CIA couldnt question him they basicly said screw it and told Bush about the WMDs.

Actually, if memory serves me, the CIA never talked to the informant, but Germany warned them that his credibility was questionable. I think the UN had also warned about his trustworthiness. Of course, neither of these views supported war with Iraq anyway, and the administration got what they wanted plus a clusterfuck to cover it up until we had deep roots in Iraq. I think it would be naive to say the CIA chose to pass false information, completely destroying their credibility, without serious pressure from the administration.

McCain is a liar just like any politician. He will say or do anything to get into office. Funny how his views on immigration have suddenly changed since the defeat of his partnered Amnesty Bill failed. He will do the same thing thing Hillary or Obama would do, Screw this country up more by not doing anything to fix the root cause of our problem. So be careful in giving Senator McCain your hat because the government will soon come for the shirt off your back also.
"Government exists to protect us from each other. Where government has gone beyond its limits is in deciding to protect us from ourselves." ~ Ronald Reagan
leftist hippy wankers. There will ALWAYS be wars, politics and conflict, its not going to stop with Iraq, we're always going to be in some kind of conflict with somebody. What difference does it make if theres war in Iraq for the next 100 years. If its not in Iraq it will be somewhere else. War and conflict are man's natural condition.
And here´s another post from you fizzle322:
"I am relieved that this is a hoax, though it does not alter my perception of the Democratic party as the party of hippies, treehuggers, cowards, traitors and extreme leftist crackpots. To me Repubs are slightly left "
We shouldn't question going to war and have valid reasons? Next is going to war with Iran because its man's natural condition?
Actually..... i've been with McCain from the start, and I will agree that was a great speech. Best of luck to him in the elections, he is definately qualified. He has my vote.
I find it revealing that the same person who could vote for Nader could also vote for McCain. It shows just how similar the Republican Party has become to a big government candidate like Nader.

I find it revealing that the same person who could vote for Nader could also vote for McCain. It shows just how similar the Republican Party has become to a big government candidate like Nader.
