Gotta say that is a really smart move. That is one thing that Blizzard never did and will probably garner a bigger customer base from that region. It sucks trying to play with a game with awful ping.

finally some recognition that we are a player base that is big enough to warrant a server.  only other one i have ever seen was Khaz'goroth on WoW and that was quite simply splitting at the seams with aussie and NZ players.  at the peak of its population the wait to get back in was close to an hour.  i think more games (those that will have a big aussie/NZ following) like AoC and WAR (and LOTRO) should give us at least 1 server.

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

Congratulations Aussies and New Zealanders on your server, you've been ignored for far too long.

Wow, that is awesome.  I can't say that about other MMOs that have did this pre-release!

Pirates of the Burning Sea is the only other MMO I know of that had a server in Australia around the time it was released.

The is a UO server as well but that was put up well after UO's release.

Glad to see they are supporting the Aussies by making a regional server available too them, but I will miss them on the US servers since they are usually a great bunch of people to play with late at night!

    Cheers!

MMO Vet since AOL Neverwinter Nights circa 1992. My MMO beat up your MMO. =S

    Interviews with Josh Drescher

Gamespot AU and IGN sat down with WAR Producer Josh Drescher to discuss the Australian server announcement.

    WAR Oceanic FAQ

Where will the server be located?

The game server will be located on mainland Australia and service New Zealand, Singapore, and other surrounding South East Asian territories.

When will the server be available?

Australian, North American, and European servers will all launch simultaneously with the client available throughout the supported territories mentioned above.

What are the benefits to having a local, regional server?

A local server means reduced latency and packet loss. These advantages allow for better performance in Realm vs. Realm battles and an overall improved game experience with limited lag and a more responsive environment. In addition there will be a higher population during peak Oceanic play times allowing players to better coordinate their in-game efforts.

Will Oceanic players be able to play on North American servers?

Absolutely, players from both North America and the Oceanic region will play using the same client giving them access to both North American and Oceanic servers. In addition servers will be listed with regional tags and able to be sorted by ping rate allowing players to select the best server for them quickly and easily.

What server hardware will be used for the Australian Server?

The game will be hosted on the same server technology used for North American servers.

Great move on their part! :)
