Most VSoH players are in love with bad ass graphics, as VSoH has them. And because of this you have really high-end machines that can run VSoH and probably even AoC. Will you be trying AoC since you have a computer that can actually run the game smoothly?
Comments
No, AoC is not a style of gameplay that sounds appealing to me.
Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do.

I like the original Conan stories, but I dont care about AoC.
- Only 3 races and rather dull looking selection of classes
- Action oriented, rather shallow fight system
- Many bad reports from betatesters
- Gore instead of content
- Insane hardware requirements (would need a new computer)
Thats really not a game for roleplayers.
My guild of 10 years is going to AoC. The last game I played with them was WoW, and I left that 2 years ago. I have tried to get them to try some other games with me but never could, they were just never interested in trying anything else. I have a lot of fun playing with them so I will be getting AoC.
I will allso keep playing VSoH. I got the Vanguard LE for $10 so its easy for me to justify a few more months play time in it.
Most people who are putting down AOC. has not even been on beta yet. and the people who has and said the zones are small is lying to you.
I'm playing AOC on a 4year old PC and its on low setting but it works fine just like how WoW,vanguard .did when they 1st came out
Yeah, I am afraid I am gonna jump to AoC...
I resubbed to VG a while ago simply due to the lack of anything else that appeals, but it's just continously frustrated me personally due to what it could be rather then what it is...
With Alan Wake, Fable 2, Spore, and even WAR, launching in the next few months I don't sadly see me giving this game another chance even in the unlikely event that AoC fails
Just to add on....: i'm happy how there is only human race and not a high elfs with gnomes running around. Making Your Toon is like COH/COV. you can spend alot time just making your toon. Roleplaying is going to be core of this game (for players whos looking for a game to Roleplay) you can craft, build a guild city, harcore PvP just how DAOC is set up .
In my opinion, people who like and enjoy Vanguard openess and freedom will not like AoC much. Many times I tried to hide away in a zone to hunt and just mess around, but every single spot/monster/dungeon on the map/zone was linked to a quest.. I felt I had no choice but to follow the quest lines to find content and level up...
Here is why I wont be playing AoC:
Though I just recently came back to VG, I may give AoC another shot in a month or 2. Main thing that got me from beta was the lack of content when you get to the 20+ areas. Sure there was some stuff there, but if you compare it to the starting area its just lacking. Aside from that, I still can't get used to the combat system. It just feels very unnatural to me, and after playing a game with the classic MMO battle system like VG, I like AoCs combat system even less. But who knows, I might just stick with VG until WAR comes out, and skip over AoC all together.

I've been in AoC beta for the last few months and just recently came back to VG since leaving to test AoC. AoC is a good game, a bit enclosed for my taste compared to the vastness of VG. Also the gameplay is a bit shallow, it's spam your combo's, pop a pot and rinse and repeat. Most likely it gets better has you level, due to NDA restrictions I can only talk about stuff upto level 13. It's very casual friendly, no need to group unless you want to visit some of the games dungeons. I found it to be very potion reliant which makes it possible to take on loads of multiple mobs without the assistance of a healer. AoC has a beautiful game world which puts VG in the shade. Back to the question, will I switch to AoC and the answer is no on release but I will give it a go 6 months down the road to allow the devs the time to work out the kinks.
I won't be playing AoC for the same reasons mentioned above.
specs? need to know if my old rig has a chance.
I try almost every MMO. But I'm pretty sure I'll pass on AoC.
No probably not.
I tried it, feels to linear, the world feels closed off, everything is feels scripted & and to many load screens. Everything I hate in the way they make new MMOs. It felt more like a single player console game. Thats just me though.
System requirements are gonna hold this game back also.
I have not tried the Beta. The NDA has not been lifted completely, so no real reviews yet (one week before its to be released? ) The AoC forum on this site seeme to be a flame fest between Fanbois and Trolls, I cant really tell.
..... so at this point no. I will want to see some real reviews first.
PvP is not usually my favorite, I guess I will need to find out what the PvP rules are for the PvE servers.
One thing I have heard about is the instancing. That to me is kind of a turn off and what turns me on about VG.
Edit: The Forum war between AoC and WAR reminds me of went on for a while between this forum and LOTR. Thank God there seems to be a truce in place.

I try and buy alot of MMO's aswell. I don't do it with the intention to replace the one I am playing but to see if I think it will be fun. If it's not well, meh.
I'm going to play AoC and see how fun it is in the end. I found out about Vanguard when searching for more information about Age of Conan, so I have actually been looking forward along time to see what kind of game they will make out of Conan.
I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.

Same approach, I would never stop playing Vanguard, but if there is another good game out there worth trying I'd definitely like to try it. I just don''t think AoC is even worth a try.
I am going to try AoC. I played the beta and it is definitely different then VG in that it is rather linear. I don't think that is all bad I enjoy single player RPGs as well. I will be playing at least one character to 80 before coming back and checking VG unless AoC is too buggy to play. Based on open beta I'm very concerned about how playable it will be ultimately and also about how the quality of the game will be past lvl 20....
The graphics, immersion, and questing seems pretty good. Graphic performance seems good. Stability is not so good. Bugs are pretty rampent across the game which also isn't good. Things like mobs just standing there when you kill them, or thing poping up like 10 ft away, or skills with blank names, etc...
Combat system looks rather basic other then the action oriented attacking and combos. Looks like once you get over the new factor the lack of depth in the combat system might become a bigger issue. For now the combat system is kinda different and fun, but I can see at lvl 80 having to hit 5 key combo to do one combat ability will be rather tedious. And I'm thinking the lack of real combat depth, ie no buildups, no finishers, no reactions, no vulnerabilities or chains.... Basically the combat system is like a simple version of eq2 but with combos do to CA, no autoattack, and the shield thing for making manually attacking more interesting.

I am in the AoC closed beta and there is no way I would leave VG for AoC. VG at release was so much better than AoC is now. But more importantly VG has so much more substance in gameplay.
Funcom has not dropped the NDA yet so I cannot tell you how bad AoC is past lvl 13, I cannot tell you if the game is not itemized past level 10, I cannot tell you level 80's are running around wearing level 10 gear as there is nothing better, nor can I tell you that the game is completely lacking in content or how completely unfinished and untested the game is. These type questions and more you will just have to guess and wonder what they are hiding by refusing to release the NDA.
But I can tell you that AoC despite its flaws is a fun game but lacking in depth. It's more a fluff game like D2 or GW targetted towards new MMO players, casual players and players who want easier gameplay . I just do not think its a game with enough content now to justify a subscription fee. But given a healthy subscriber base and a year of time it could develop into a very good game.
I heard in Age of Conan you can attack player cities with your guild (nothing new, Star Wars Galaxies did 5 years ago). But since the game is so very instance heavy nobody will be around to see it.
It's a game on rails.
I miss the good ol' days when nerds were actually intelligent.
Honestly just to add to that, AoC plays like a console game.. its extremely linear.. not much freedom and honestly its just.. boring... But you know what? I understand if a lot of you are willing to throw down $ for it.. I personally find these times to be a little dark/depressing when it comes to MMORPGS.. I'de at least recommend waiting a while before you toss down the $$.. because let me put it this way.. if they gave me a free copy.. I honestly would question whether or not I would even want it on my shelf of games.. I'de prolly toss it.. (if ebay'ing wasn't an option)
Core VG players do not play VG because of the graphics, but because of freedom of gameplay. AoC have opposite gameplay - he is absolutely linear like WoW.
Where themepark games try to hide that they are copying WOW, games like Mortal Online and Darkfall make no attempt to hide their inspiration

The only thing linear is Tortage tutorial from 1 to 20.
Why I will be playing AoC:
- I like to explore
- I like to craft
- Sometimes I like just to hide away and grind/hunt
- I like to use some skills and activily participating in combat
- I like detailed and immersive world rather then vast space of nothigness
- I like to building city features and lots of tradeskills like resoruce gathering and crafting
- I like collision system where tanks roll it to tank and prevent mobs passing him with phisically standing in front of him and blocking him rather then using bunch of taunts.
- I like the sieging system
- I like resource claiming and defneding. ( guild can own resource points in border kingdom )
- I like the great enviroment and immersivnest for role playing
- I like dynamic and interesting quest with great story line
- I like the raid instances and as well group ones
- I like group mehanics in PvP and PvE ( pve xp should be balanced a bit better)
- I like the really great ingame music and effects that are one of the best i ever saw in any game ( single player and MMO's)
And lots other stuff ...
-----
I would preferr mounts in low levels
I would prefer seamless world ( if it stays as prefer as it is now )
I would prefer if there were no instances at all ( cant and wont be done in AoC due collision and map size )
I would prefer it game was not so hardware demanding
I would prefer even more classes
And lots of other things that were solve better in other games like VG.
I have fait in Funcom regardless that they made few big mistakes but at the end they will pull it of and make AoC great.
I dont think that release will be great and (critical) bug free, I expect huge problems, there are still a lot of features missing that was promissed or are done completly the other way they said a year or two ago.
I just hope that if(when) there are tons of issues at release game wont become ghost town as it happend in VG in less then 3 months from release.
The word I hate the most when describing MMO is potential but AoC haves it a lot,. but so did VG.
Being in AoC and VG beta things are not so apart that some would like you to belive, OK AoC is a bit better but what can keep him floating is the immersiveness and available features that are already IN.
The thing about VG release was it offered same old same old packed in better graphics with tons of issues so players left.
I hope AoC will offer some free trial ( 3 months after release, early in beginning there will be some server overloads ) so players can decide if they either like it or not.

Yes I like to try new MMO's and I still have a subscription to DDO but I hardly every play. I also have a life time subscription to LOTR. But with AOC I most likely will pass because of my travel I have limited time to play so most of my home time is spent playing VSOH. I may give WAR a try but who know's? If another MMO came out with the lifetime suubscription price I will probably get it.
I already have. Here's why:
VG is an okay game that's much better than it was at release. However, I'm frustrated with the VG Devs and the size of their team. They seem to break more than they fix with each patch -- every patch I've seen has required multiple follow up patches to fix the original update. When I read the dev responses on the forums, I get the impression that they just do not have the manpower or resources to do anything major with the game. Their lead dev has an attitude and is prone to getting into arguements with the players on the official forums. Overall, I just didn't see a real strong future in VG, despite the fact that it's a fairly fun game to play.
AoC has been a blast so far. I like the graphics more than VG, I like the character customization a LOT more than VG -- the avatars in AoC actually look pretty good vs. the plastic models in VG. The spell effects in AoC blows VG out of the water as do the animations. For example, here we are well over a year after release, and I still swim 3 foot above the water in VG. Not good.
The cutscenes and voice overs in AoC really help with immersion. In VG, the npcs just stand there staring blankly off into space.
In my opinion, AoC is simply a better game and will provide much more value for my money. VG is fun, but still needs a ton of work before I'd even call it finished.
