Most fun ingame holiday event you ever had

TillerTiller Member LegendaryPosts: 11,488

Most games out there have em, whats some of the most fun holiday events you've been a part of?

In the old days SWG had some great with mini Krayt, throwing snowballs at people in EQ2 was fun.

Throwing snowballs, especially when they didn't know who did it

Anarchy Online allways had great Halloween events, with the uncle pumpkin head  mobs they spawned and several fun NPCs placed to allow players to change their appearance to monsters. Funcom seemed to make it a point in the beginning to have fun on every halloween.

You know, for me it wasnt the extravagent events we have in the MMOs today. I still remember back in the early days of DAOC, they turned the Moon into a pumpkin...has us talking for the whole night about it

I remember the first time CoH had a Halloween event, trick or treat, the first time I got tricked, and almost got straight owned because I wasn't expecting it.

Guild Wars has the best holiday Events IMHO. Snowball fights, RollerBeetle Racing, Boardwalk games and more. And thats just Christmas! Plus all the nice hats.

I love the WoW april fools patch notes. It seems to be the only time they listen to the classes in need lol. Also the tin foil hat in for engi in 07 was pretty funny.

Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time.

If the Powerball lottery was like Lotro, nobody would win for 2 years, and then everyone in Nebraska would win on the same day.
And then Nebraska would get nerfed.-pinkwood lotro fourms

Horizons'/Istaria's Fall Festival + Hammer's Rest and Winter Festival + Gnomekindle. Based in lore, not just Halloween and Christmas clones unimmersively plopped into the game world. Multiple activities to be done.

Even though Ryzom's last autumn and winter holiday events were examples of "clones unimmersively plopped into the game world," they had fun aspects:

Around Halloween, there was a Kitin (major PvE enemy) invasion that included extremely difficult swarmleaders that had a powerful attraction to the squishy magic-users, making the tanking of myself and just one or two others a delightful challenge. Very useful titles were added as reward for killing the invaders, i.e. "Kitin Hunter" and "Atys Guardian."

For Christmas, presents were scattered through the lowest-level regions. A friend and I ran around killing the presents (which could dodge and parry xD) to loot their contents. When they were in short supply, some people refrained from killing all the presents in sight so that others wouldn't miss out.

Getting banned in Lotro within 5 minutes of my previous ban expiring was pretty cool. Didn't even have to leave the jail in Bree

    Hmmm....I'd have several I think.

In WoW it would be The Beer Fest .  Oddly enough, I'm old enough to drink REAL beer, but it was somehow more comical (and cheaper) to drink virtual beer until you puked.  The ogre-made beer seemed to be the strongest brew, and you could only drink about a six pack before spewing green vomit all over yourself and the npcs.  You woke up the next day in RL with no hangover, and lots of fun memories of drunkenly riding rams through town that are powered by apples and a whip.   LOL   Don't ask me....I didn't make up the holiday.  I still laugh when I think about it and every now and then, I whip out the beer keg I bought with festival tickets (I keep it in my bank), and get "schnockered" with my fellow WoWaholics.

In EQ2, it would probably be Frostfell (read Christmas) of 2006, or Erollisi Day  (read Valentine's Day) of the same year.  Soooo many activites and presents and surprises, and I still have memorabilia from those world events in my house (ingame house).

Guild Wars has the best holiday events imho! Some of my favourites are:

    Halloween

Ghosts fly around, the sky turns gray and big cauldrons are aplenty! The pumpkin king comes for a visit too, giving free gifts to those who obey his commands. Apart from that, getting drunk on absinthe, morphing into various sugary treats or scaring unsuspecting victims with items such as the Ghost-in-a-Box are great fun too!

    Dragon Festival

The festival games area is opened, allowing access to the Rings of Fortune mini-game, among others with the purchase of festival tickets. One can also take a trip to the Dragon Arena, where opponents unable to dodge your spells are killed instantly! Sometimes players have to team up against villains in towns and get prizes as rewards too!

    Wintersday

My favourite of all the events! Apart from Snowball fighting, the present-run and special winterday henchmen, one can embark on epic quests to save the world from Grenth and his cold-grasp! Every few hours Grenth and the god of Light, Dwayna, visit towns where they ask for your help in deciding whether the world should stay cold for the rest of the year or not. When the winner is decided, presents rain down from the sky!

There are many other events that allow access to Rollerbeetle Racing, other games, quests, items and many more. The devs put alot of time in completely changing towns with their decorations. The best part about the events, however, are the various festival hats you can collect, as well as the minipets you receive if you're lucky enough!
