decision to use peer-to-peer instead of a normal download. I was able to download Fileplanet's beta in a day. I've been 4 days downloading Funcom's client and I still have 2 to 5 days left. I paid my $5. Funcom claims the $5 was for bandwidth. I'm very disappointed in the way they handled this. They expect their customers to “host” the download instead of them doing it. They have the money and we are receiving substandard service.

sucks to be you? we all got 700kbs to 1.1 meg... had the file in like 8ish hours.... Sounds like you either have a low bandwith connection, have your upload rate WAY too high... or something
Yes Peer-to-Peer is slow, and Funcom did kind of rip us off there since they are using zero bandwidth on people downloading. But the $5 also covers 10 extra days of playtime on top of the 30 days so technically 40days till your first payment.
*Edit* - No most did not get that connection speed, if you look back tons of people were complaining about it, hence why they released the box version already.

I have my client on DVD's. Sorry to hear you decided to download 24+ GB of info. Dont sweat it though im sure your Soft Firewall/router is limiting your speed. Do you have the correct ports forwarded?
Also Id like to see if anyone else is having this same issue.
Slow download speeds through a bit torrent client is slow when
A) Windows Firewall is enabled with out the correct ports forwarded
You are behind a router that doesnt have the correct ports forwarded.
C) A&B combined
D) Im not sure if they are using their own downloader or if your using a client such as UTorrent or Azureus. If its not their own downloader then your Torrent client has not been set up correctly and you are flooding your upload criplling your download.
E) Your on wireless
go to http://www.dslreports.com/tools and run the "Tweak Test" to see if your connection is set up properly in windows as well.
i normally dl at 900+kbs sometimes quite a bit higher- my speed for this averaged 180-280 kbs
but not to be rude if its taking you that long sounds like you need better isp---yea its slow but a WEEK ?-sounds like most of the problem is on your end
did you actually go in and edit the amount you were uploading? or did you let it choke off your connection?
I know you probably did but, did you read the how to use the down loader thing?
I started out downloading around 300 and got it up to 500-600
Also Id like to see if anyone else is having this same issue.
Erm, what you talkin about willis? the download was only 14 gigs + patches
Also Id like to see if anyone else is having this same issue.

Im basing that number off of what people are saying the install takes up when you install the game from the retail DVD's. I actually think someone said 24 gigs. he never mentioned if that was before or after patching.
And when you quote one of my posts that has helpful information please include it so people see it when it gets pushed up by "willis" replies. Dont worry ill do it for you.
When I started downloading 4 days ago I was downloading at 50-60 KB/sec. Late Wed night I was 51% finished. Since then the download speed has went to crap. Anywhere from .6 KB/sec to 10 sometimes a little more. I don't think its my computer otherwise it wouldn't have been good at the start. I realize “good” is a relative word. But if it would have stayed at 50-60 KB/sec I wouldn't be writing now. Right now I'm at 65% finished. 14% downloaded in 2 days!!!!!
Edit: From the beginning I set my download to 250, upload to 25 and peer 5
I would call 50-60 KB/sec bad. What kind of connection do you have and how do you connect?
When your downloader is up, go to "minimize" look down near your time on the bottom right, find it, right click it go to upload and select 25kbs........ The only reason your dl would drop that low is if your letting it choke your connection. that should put you back up to 50-100 kbs easy pending your connection...
From the beginning I set my download to 250, upload to 25 and peer 5.
Its Frontiers wonderful high speed internet.
well I have to be honest I started the D/L never touched a thing just let it run and I got on with my life and it took me 32hours I was getting around 140kbs,I didnt mind I just let it do its thing,so I have to say either your connection isnt great or indeed you messed it up yourself.
If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

I started downloading at 150 KBs/sec (which by itself says that my settings were ok-ish). That lasted only for a few, while -I assume- high con seeders existed. Once they were done (after a few hours), my d/l speed dropped at 10 KBs/sec. Needless to say I quit the effort and waiting on the retail box. I'm just glad I tested the d/l before I pay the "early access".
This is a *well* known issue about torrents, hence it should not be used. If you're an amatuer sure, but to be a worldwide company and offer your global customers such service was very dissapointing.
Thats on you to wait till LAST min to start a 24gig DL with the rest of the idoits, they said you can DL it on the 14 why wait until now to do it? dont blame funcom for your choices
Can you explain how then it went from 60 to .6KB/sec. I never touched it!
They didnt send me the download link til Tuesday. I started as soon as I could.
Edit sorry for doulble post.
Can you explain how then it went from 60 to .6KB/sec. I never touched it!
Simple,I went and got a couple of hours sleep came back and seen it was at 50kb also,it simply bottlenecked,I stopped the d/l and restarted it and got back to 140-150kbs,these things happen when d/l.

But you clearly said you never touched it. So thanks for your help.
I think its 30 days until your next payment. I think thats what you meant to say. You already paid $5 for 10 days.

Happy! Happy! Joy! Joy!
We are handling PCs for over 20 years. Surely we know how to make a simple d/l.
Yes we paused and resume the d/l. Yes we even restarted our PCs and resumed. Yes we tried the port forward thingy. No matter what once it got down to 10 Kbs/sec, that's it. As I assume, once the high con seeders were done that was the end. A torrent is a torrent.
We started the d/l as fast as we could (getting the codes, d/l links etc), but not all live in some country with kick ass connections.
I live in Greece, got a 4 MBs adsl con. I assume lots like me in many countries. THings are simple. Torrent SUCKS. It was a very dissapointing move from FC. Simple as that.
LOL when I said I never touched it I meant the setting's,ofc I checked from time to time how the d/l was going,I mean who doesnt and if I see it bottlenecked I will restart it like everyone else would.

I know it sucks to have a por DL when you are starving to get the game, fortunetly for me I had no issues I just turned it on and let it go took less than a day by far didn't actualy clock it though.
I did get my box set today so I should assume that others got theres or will soon, I did op for the over night shiping but I can at least happly wait for the servers to open with a full install complet and patched as best it can be (I would start the client at least once a night to check for patch there where 1 or 2 I think)
At any rate try not to let the start of a game get you down we are all trying to jump in and get going asap; would hate to see gamers kill the fun of the game stressing out; I'm gona keep hitting it till it opens I'll play as I can and just focus on enjoying the game; servers crash no prob they will come back up not gona let it kill the fun I paid for.
In short just sit back relax and dont pull your hair out; I feel ya pain waiting for it but dont kill the joy fighting a bad DL you'll get it sooner than later and be hacking and slashing away.
Mine was working fine for the first two days. When it went bad, I did the same thing I stopped the client, restarted my computer, restarted and reset the client. No improvments.
