my client/early access

I originally posted this in a thread but I'll put it here in an attempt to help some people.  Good luck!

After following the buzz on the AoC official forums this is how I got my client (hope this helps)  Let me also mention my account was preordered from gamestop 5-8-08 with a Visa debit card (east coast us)  As soon as I got my key I went to register.ageofconan.com/account and created an account and registered it.  I also paid for the early access I believe although wasn't charged til a few days later.  (they couldn't legally charge for a download without offering it promptly and the DL wasn't ready til a couple of days later)

1) I hadn't received the notification email but when people on the AoC forums were all talking about how they were all downloading already I had to go see for myself.  I read one guy post "quit camping your email and just go to the place where you registered your key."

2) I refreshed the main page a few times an hour until I got tired and went to bed.  The next morning when I woke up I refreshed it once and the link appeared at the top of the page.  I checked my account info and it said "5.00, approved, Age of Conan Early Access" (all highlighted in green)

3) I followed these steps as posted by a dev funcom.solidstatenetworks.com/about/ and started my download.  I averaged between 350-400 KB/sec and had the whole thing downloaded in approx 12 hrs, give or take an hr.

4) After downloaded I installed the game which took 45-1hr and then over the past few days I've logged on to the client and grabbed a few patches here and there which were relatively small.

5) Defragged

6) Now it's Saturday May 17th and I'm sitting in forums talking and helping people until around 1pm EST when AoC goes live.

I hope all this helps, good luck and see ya in Hyboria!

Would running the patcher on the beta client work??? Or is the early access client completely different from the beta client???

I Surely hope so since the beta client gave me worse than no performance :)

I think many people who had the beta client dumped it and went with a "clean install"

But is it possible?? Since my internet connection at my own appartment is shared and I get about 100 - 200kb/s out of is max so downloading another 15Gb client would finish when the early access is over :)

Early access client is different than the Beta client. Also the Early access is different than the one you need after 10 days of Early access has ended. You then need to reinstall the game from DVDs in order to be able to play.

Don't patch the beta client, the patcher wont detect that it still uses uncompressed textures and thus will make your performance decrease.

The retail client (or EA one) has the compressed textures in.
