Demonologist or Necromancer?

So with only a few hours to go, I'm torn between the two. Does anyone have any more information about these classes than what I've gathered up?

Demonologist: I've only seen two pets for this guy, one succubus and one huge, winged demon that carries a two handed sword. They have powerful DD spells based off of fire and lightning damage.

Necromancer: Summons alot of little pets (up to 11 at endgame). Does alot of DoT damage, and their spells are situational based (guy has to be higher or lower than X health). Turns into a lich endgame.

I mean, if I could just find a pet list, that'd be great. Anyone have any ideas?

Well, I had read that earlier, but all that really tells me is that every class sucks, just in it's own way. I think there were one or two positive reviews in that entire post. I'm not bashing it or anything, I just don't think knowing HOW each class sucks is going to help me pick which one I want to be. Maybe which sucks less?

Most of the sucking is user related.

I've played necro to level 20 and demo to level 10.

Though the demo has more DD spells, it just feels......a little underpowered compared to the necro.

The necro is fun to play.  The combination of mulitiple DOT's and pets are pretty substantial on damage.

So the necro is going to be my primary, I'll probably roll a demo as a sideline because I get a gut feeling that although its not as powerful as the necro at low levels, it might get better later on.

I played both of these classes to 13, then to 25/26 during the PVP weekend.

    They are *both* fun.

The 2 demo pets you saw are actually one in the same. The female demo gets the demon, and the MALE demo gets the succubus.

    My thoughts on the necro:

    • * Survivability: high. Sure, they are cloth wearers, but it's all about the pull. I would start out with my longest casting nukes, then lay down a dot or two, follow up with Parasitic Soul and hopefully, that would trigger another pet/pets:)
    • * Parasitic Soul: this is an awesome spell. It's a channeled AOE that, when a mob dies and this is active, you have a chance of spawning a 'soul' pet (skull) to fight for you. You cannot command these, and they will disappear after a short bit of time (30 seconds? I forget)
    • * More pets! You have a random chance of getting a frozen hatred pet (ice giant) when you kill a critter. Again, these are not summoned or controllable, however they will fight for you.
    • * At lower levels, the highest number *total* pets I had out (2 of my summoned minions, along with 2 skulls & 2 giants) was 8.
    • * The pets aren't your "tanks". They really won't hold aggro unless Frenzy is up (and even then, you'll likely pull aggro). You will be beaten on, expect it:)
    • *  Back to summoned pets: One thing that I would do, is once I started getting either skulls or giants to proc, I would *pull faster*. More pets = more damage = possibly more pets = murderous rampage. I found that often by the time that pulls would get to me, the mobs would be half dead
    • * I found the necro to be *VERY* survivable as far as clothies were concerned. Just always be aware of your surroundings, and be aware that things can and will go wrong..and that you will die. It isn't like a lock, or an EQ necro that's for certain...the important thing is don't go into it expecting that they are.

As for the demo, this was another blast (no pun intended), although I found them to be a tad bit more squishy, especially before 9 (when you first get your demon/succubus). This class is the nuker, that is for certain, and often, you'll have to think a bit more when making your pulls. The demo pet does *pitiful* damage, and is more there for buffer/linking purposes. On "larger" pulls, I would make sure my pet was on follow, because if I were trying to keep a mob in place and the pet were assisting, the pet would break it, and I'd have 2/3/more critters pounding on my clothish arse.  This was definitely another fun & fast class to play.

Another class you *might* consider would be the Tempest of Set, which, in spite of it's "priest" class, can do some serious damage, and both give & take a beating.

Last note on the mage classes (and I know the OP didn't bring this one up, but wanted to toss it out there for those that hadn't been in beta/don't know what the class entails): The Herald of Xotli is considered a 'sorcerer' class, yet it is very unique in that it relies (especially at lower levels) HEAVILY on combos. Consider it a soldier that wears cloth. It won't take a beating very well, your demon form is on a 2 minute cooldown, and many of the combos they utilise will be AOE...so placement is key. It's a very fun class to play, but at lower levels has *very* limited spells.

I plan on playing a melee character, but if I had to choose between the two I'd play a necro.

More diversitility, different than the average cookie-cutter class (not that this type of class hasn't been used in almost every other game, just different), and a little more challenging. I also can imagine the kickass end-game armors (or cloth) that would go with this class.
