I recall seeing similiar lists over at LOTR before launch, Vanguard, Roma Victor, and several others. Will we ever find a replacement for SWG pre-nge ?
Personally, I dont think Conan is the game to replace my love for SWG. If anything, it reminds me as all MMO's do of the things its missing (that made SWG great).
In Conan, you have these mirrored instances inside zones. For example, in SWG you walk into Coronet for some doc buffs. All the players currently online are physically there for you to see and mingle with. In Conan, not all the players will be there. You are loaded stealthily into a mirror zone of coronet. Once full, someone will load into another mirror zone of coronet. There might be 800 people in coronet but you'll only see an interact with 100 of em. The rest are in other instances inside Coronet. To me, thats not an MMO but rather just an MO (minus the Massive)
SWG with its giant seamless worlds with no instancing and loading screens has set a standard that no other MMO can seemingly match. I wont even get into crafting where resources have shifting stats or personal vendors or in-game housing, etc etc etc
In 3 days I will yet again launch myself into another MMO (or in this case, an MO). Ive spent another $50 on a game in the hopes that I can regain that thrill I once experienced with SWG. Odds are high though that I will soon find my way back here hoping to read some post about the new bioware - star wars mmo or even better, a post about the return of classic servers.

Wow..alota vets hoping AoC will deliver... fucking $oE....
I bet there are more people on that list than are currently online in SWG right now
Don't expect any game in the next couple of years to re-place what many of us have lost, but AoC might be something to enjoy nevertheless. Cause the whole setup of AoC is completly different then what we know/knew from SWG (pre-cu), doesn't mean it can't be fun cause i'm sure many people will enjoy the game, perhaps even me as i pre-ordered AoC, but then again i buy almost any new mmo or game coming out if it look slightly intrested, i have yet to install LotrO special Edition that i also pre-ordered during beta but havn't installed the game or have played it beyond beta.
It amazes me to see how SWG vets always seek each other out in other games. It speaks to me of the great community and the incredible experience we shared.
29 pages of vets posting in one game forum that hasn't even gone live yet. It really makes you wonder how many vets are out there waiting.
SWG community is the only one that Ive seen doing this too. You dont see "ex EQ1 members looking for friends in - MMO. Probably because we are all without a home still.
2.5 years since the NGE debacle and the community is still reaching out to each other. How can no development team NOT see the demand for a sandbox MMO ?
soe you destroyed the game but the playerbase still lives! one day we will have another game.

Yes $OE INDEED destroyed SWG. But LA helped.
It is NOT just AOC that had hundreds of former SWG veterans post on their forums. I beta tested Vanguard and was excited about the game UNTIL they said they were climbing into bed with $OE. That was the end of Vanguard for me and my nephew. Hundreds if not thousands of former SWG vets begged them not to ... but it was already a done deal.
And Vanguard lost 65 - 75 percent of their playerbase because of it.
I hope furture MMO developers listen to what the future will bring them should they also get into bed with $OE.
SWG was light years ahead of everyone else in the MMO industry.

For me at least i played SWG becuase of the people i played with not for the game (though it was ok),now as for AOC its not a game for me but if some people find a new home than that has to be good news.

Don't knock it until you play it. I am an old school pre-cu vet from launch and there 100 people from my old SWG guild coming over to AOC these guys were like me playing the odd mmo hoping it would deliver and from my first impressions AOC is one hell of a polished game. Granted it is different but this game seems to be delivering. Don't listen to people moaning about the pvp servers, they are OPEN pvp so you will get ganked etc if you can't handle that don't whine move over to pve the community is actually very very good not to mention the game looks and plays very well.

Conan reminds me of LOTR in many ways. Its a clean game and downright fun. But like LOTR, I will grow tired of Conan I just know it.
It doesnt have the staying power SWG did. I cant run a Mall with my vendors and other friends' vendors. Nothing decays nor will the resource stats change each week
It doesnt have housing and if they do manage to add it you just know it will be instanced
It is a level based game with very restrictive small zones and lots of instancing. Everything SWG was not.
If I pick the wrong class, Im stuck with it. I cant slowly drop skills and try other classes like in SWG. I have to start an entirely new toon
In short, its new so Im enjoying it. But like all MMO's Ive tried since SWG, its missing too many of the features I came to expect from an MMO.
I expect I'll pay Age of Conan for 3 months. Thats just about the time when Ive reached the level cap and dabbled with a few other classes. Then its back to LOTR for their expansion or something else maybe.
My only hope on the horizon is Fallen Earth MMO
I don't think SOE or LA care about this. If you look at everything people have posted, asked, etc... about SWG and look at the other games people have went to,.. and LA and SOE have done nothing as of yet.. trust me, they will not let AOC changes thier minds.
I really hope AOC works out and becomes a great online game. If they keep SOE out of the works,.. they will do fine.
Been there done that:
Asherons Call,SWG,AOC,D&D,COH,Anarchy Online,DAOC,EVE,Guild Wars,LOTRO,POTBS,WAR,WW2, and Rift
I think EARTHRISE will make a lot more SWG vets happier, personally. http://www.play-earthrise.com/

WarCry: What will gameplay be like? How will the average player spend his time in Earthrise?
AA: Earthrise is a skill-based PvP sandbox MMO featuring sophisticated crafting and player controlled territory. An average player can do a lot of things in the game starting from character development through PvE and questing, going through PvP fights with single enemies, Guild vs Guild or the epic territory conquest. Those players who don't want to engage in PvE or PvP fights will find the crafting, trading and social advancement an excellent way of spending their time while online.
WarCry: What is the skill system like? Will there be a lot of grinding, or is the progression fast?
AA: Earthrise will feature a large amount of skills with a wide range of active and passive abilities, further customizable with Tactics that enhance their effects in new directions, allowing players to customize their arsenal of skills to their liking. The game will require players to take on quests and kill many mutated species, regenerate robots or bandits across the island of Enterra in order to advance their skills, but the progression won't require too much of them. In fact, if players want to develop only a small group of highly specialized skills, they can reach expertise fairly quickly, and within a couple months they would be ready to match with the end content, but if they prefer variety and customization that guarantees their survival in many situations, they will have to spend considerably more time on honing their skills in-game. However, player skill remains the most important of them all - both in achieving the best suited build for their taste and how to actually play it well.
WarCry: What games does the team look to for inspiration?
AA: As I mentioned in my previous interview, Ultima Online and EVE Online are the MMOs that inspired parts of the gameplay of Earthrise, but our players should expect to see many different things that make our game a unique experience such as the skill advancement, the combat system, the open world and the territory conquest and control.

BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.
SWG vet here- Playing on Thog. I have already had chats with SWG vets in AoC. Every mmo I try that is new always has SWG vets. Amazing.
Here is something fun to do: go on to any server in AoC and mention SWG in the OOC channel. The SOE bashing I've seen warms my heart to no end.
Quite a major conversation with everyone in game about how they hate the N GE and $OE. It lasted for a good hour. People have not forgotten. I actually think AoC is quite good. Now I have EvE, LOTRO, and AoC.
Yep, more proof that the vets have won.
