MMORPG Help (Want to be playing by tonight!)

ViolentYViolentY Member Posts: 1,458

I recently bought and built this computer. It's been working fine, been able to install and play some MMORPGs such as Lineage 2. But lately, I've wanted to come back to EverQuest, but I've been hitting some problems.

I reinstalled EQ from "Everquest Evolutions." Whenever I try to launch it, it just freezes at the "Looking for updated files" screen. After a few hours, it then goes to a message that says "Could not locate updated files. Please recheck your internet connection." I've been talking with Support people all day, and this is what I've accomplished:

I do not have my firewall on.

I opened up the ports on my router.

EQ says that my connection times out when they try to reach my IP.

My internet security is set at "medium."

I've reinstalled 8 times, with restarting before and after.

I've thuroughly deleted the EQ files each time by searching for "eq" files and checking my dir.

I have no spyware/adware.

With a previous router and computer, I was able to play EQ. I tried using the old router with this computer, tried the old computer with both routers, tried various different network cables, etc.

The last option I was given that I haven't gone through with is changing my IP address, which I will do tomorrow afternoon if nothing else works--but I really don't think that is the solution.

Any ideas? I will be eternally greatful.

EQ CS service is the best service I ever meet for those questions.  Send them a email.  They will answer in 48 hours I am pretty sure.  Be sure to include every information about your computer and your connection that you can.

They will even write you a step by step actions you need to do in case you are lacking skills as I do toward the computers.

Of course you may get lucky and find a nice and good person with skill anywhere, but the CS way work fine and settle the issue for good. image

Even if they have the answer on their FAQ, they will very patiently repeat the information for you and explain in another way they think you will understand better...I know!  image  Sometimes I assume they find someone that speak french to answer me in english to make sure that he understand what I mean and not offend me by saying my english is ghetto!  image

As I said in the original post, I've been talking to those guys all day, and each time they give me a different solution--none that have worked so far.

I talked to my friend and he had the same problem; and was given the same reply to call his ISP and get his IP address changed. But he instead did something else, which for my luck he doesn't remember, which fixed it.

Downloaded the firmware, I get to the part where it asks for my server, pass, and the file, but I have no idea what to put in. I know the IP, as it's the default, but I do not know what my password is (it's not "admin").

I think I figured out the server and pass, but it says "failed to resolve host."

    Ideas?

  • Also set your internet security settings to the lowest for  2 hours. Do NOT surf the internet, check email, or nothing else. Only try installing EQ again during the 2 hour period. Computers, software, etc... can be finicky. It might work, it might not, you never know though.

After trying again for 2 hours, re-set your internet security settings back the way they were.

You have probally already done it, I am just saying it to make sure, buit are all your drivers updated? Only reason I ask is because if they are that might be the problem, I have gotten bad driver updates in the past and they prevent me from doing things. The way to tell if they are good is to go to where you got them and check if they are microsoft approved. Good luck.

Are you sure its microsoft approved?

  • ViolentYViolentY Member Posts: 1,458

No, I don't believe it was microsoft approved. I just figured it was because the link I downloaded was an older one for a rather new graphics card.

Please tell me I'm an idiot and that you know how to fix all of this so I can just be a happy little shit and play EQ.

Can anyone help me figure out how to remove my previous drivers and link me to the newest working, microsoft approved nvidia geforce driver?

When I did it it might have had something to do with safe mode menus and that kind of thing cuz I might not have been able to start my comp.....worth a try if you have nothing else...

I figured it out, go to properties, go to the settings tab, click advanced, go to the adapter tab, click properties, go to the driver tab, and click roll back driver. Hope this works......
