Hi guyz ...
I know it have been asked before but Iam still confused about the instance thing in AoC
I wanna know is it gonna be like GuildWars when i play all alone most of the time when I go PvE
or I will see ppl attacking monsters with me? (( without being with me in the party ))
and also is the pvp in the game all around mini games and wars between guilds ?
or there is an open world wide PvP ?
and what about the single player that was mentioned in the FAQ ??
is it gonna take long time of my game experience ?
I hope u can help me cuz I really like the game style but I dont wanna repeat my experience with GuildWars

I love guildwars instancing and I hate instancing in general but in guildwars it works .... why? because the game is mainly PVE . Its like you get your own private world to do all the quests and missions at the same time you got the public world to show yourself off and trade and interact with people. You also got the option of inviting people into your private PVE world via grouping. I happen to like that division and appreciate it more and more when Im playing games where my monsters get killed by players that came out of nowhere and I wasted my time and energy only to be griefed by a PVE player....
I see no reason to have a free for all pve game with rp'ers ganking your mobs and stealing your loot. Its no different from pvp players wanting free for all pvp servers with carebears... so they can gank them !!! just as RP'ers want FFA PVE servers where they can gank you in the PVE equivalent, harrass you as you go about your business. All you carebears want consentual PVP? I want consentual PVE.. its no different from pvp player ganking you, theres no reason to let someone into your game you payed for unless you ask them to. And thats the beauty of guildwars, you dont have to share your game with others if you dont want to, but if you want to you got all tools available to do so and can play the whole game with the people of your choosing at the same time you cant escape the community having the economey and towns shared with the public. Its kind of like consentual PVP but in PVE.
But i agree theres is that element of being part of a world thats alive with real people that can positively or negatively effect you, to that I say play a real pvp game where the rules are there infront of you and you know what youre getting into. But as long as theres a seperate story with a begining and ending for each uniquie player, so should there be a world for that player to realize his story. Not until the main storyline is interconnected with the storylines of other players, there is absolutely no reason for a free for all PVE world other than grief.
Hope this helps. AoC is NOTHING like GW.
I remember back in 1999, folks kept asking me if I was stockpiling food. I always answered, "No, I'm stockpiling ammo and making a list of people who are stockpiling food"
There are a few lone instances in AOC. but not many. Most instances are just big play areas. You wont be alone. The starting areas may seem abit linear but the game opens up quite abit.
the game has hidden mirrored instances.
It works like this...
you enter a zone. If that zone is full, you still enter it but your in a seperate mirrored version of that zone. You wont see the other players in the same zone cause theyre in a different version (instance) of it. You will only see the players that have entered the same instance zone as you are in.
Thats why many (im one of them) have complained about the instancing in this game. A MMO means Massive multiplayer online game. This game is an MO, multiplayer game really.
Get out of n00b island (tortage) and you will see a DRASTIC difference.

About the instancing, isnt it so that at a later point you and your group will be the only there and your group only.
Nope nothing like GW, you can go with or without your friends and other players anywhere you want and see them even if they are not in your group.
Yea u r right ,,,, but this is not what MMORPG stands for ...
I Can play single player games if I want to be isolated from ppl in my own game
Ksing and ganking are supposed to be part of MMORPG and part of its fun ...
they dont happen so often in PvE or PvP ... even if they do u can interact with them in ur own way
anyway back to topic , thx for ur answers guyz ...
I guess I will wait and see more reviews before I buy the game ... to make sure it will have the taste of competitive MMORPG at end game ...
The only place that is really instanced other then the night time story quests is the city Tortage. once you get out in the battle field there are plenty of other people. and maybe a little too much ganking.
The game is zone instanced, in terms of instancing it is similar to City of heroes where each zone sits in its own instance. So remember when you saw Grandville 1,2,3 and so on if the there are too many people in that map you will see something similar to that extent here only a lot more i think there where like 30 or 40 Tortaga's. All Inns, buildings are all instanced btw. I think the limit to each map is something like 50,
Also there is no specific size for a zone some are big certain while other zones like Underhalls is not one full zone like tortaga but rather has so many loadscreens with in it.
Zorndorf, you have no idea what your talking about. The graphics of AOC are better than Oblivion. The play areas are full of players, and load times are no where near what you state they are. If you were one of my kids you would be sent to your room for being a lair.
Thanks for the insight on the instancing, I was curious about this aswell, glad its not like guild wars. Even though, I love guild wars.
QFT...il play battlefield heroes till a real mmorpg comes...
