June 2001 Funcom released Anarchy Online, probably the 1st or 2nd worst release of all time, only WWII Online could argue they had a even worse release.
Understand this. The reason you got AoC in the mail yesterday was because Funcom understands their horrilbe track record releasing MMO's and didnt want people canceling the pre-orders after experiencing the EA. Paying 5 bucks is a cheap way to see if a company has lived up to the hype they created or failed.

Good thing it is EARLY ACCESS, and not RELEASE
Will see how this progresses....but, really, I know of ZERO MMO's that have come up on time or did not shortly crash after access was opened...
Can someone name even one MMO that opened when it was suppose to? (PS: I know of the EU LOTRO coming up a day early, yet...the US release was delayed...)

Well at lest people understand but I don't think the forums need many more people pointing out the obvious..
I remember the wow eu release, the US had been up and running for two month already so there shouldn't be any problems. But instead their registration page got overloaded, took hours to just register.
It's alot of ppl storming the servers at the same time, probably much more than under any stress test so it can't really be tried before the release.
most the folks in game seem to be having fun (myself included).

City of Heroes had no issues with its early access program and it wasnt limited either. Anyone that pre-ordered got in.
What do you think the early access is for? People in the early access are used to smooth out the bumps for when the flood gates really open. It's to be expected that the early access crowd will be the ones to experience the more serious teething issues when a MMO goes live. The rest of us sit back while you guys encounter launch issues so the rest of us don't have too deal with them. Keep marching on and keep smoothing out the road ahead for the rest of us like good EA MMOers.

I think it is a conundrum to say "Launch" and "Flawless" in the same sentence when it comes to MMO's...period
All I know is EA may have been locked to a select group, and launch of EA was rocky...what I do see now that it is up...is an amazingly fun and playable game...with zero crashes on 2 computers so far, lag is a non-issue, and performs like "melted butter" it is so smooth...

The early-access for LOTRO was Turbine's way of clearing out the newcomer areas so there wouldn't be too much conjestion on launch day. Very different than what Funcom is doing. Sadly, it appears to me Funcom is just trying to get more stress-testing done.
I had zero problems with AO yesterday as did most of the Guild i Am in I would have to say funcom has redeemed themselves bigtime imho , I was on thor.

That last paragraph is so very accurate, hell, the whole thing was accurate.
It is indeed a great game, I'm still laughing at the trolling thats taken place since its been considered a success even prior to release. I'll have fun drinking the tears of these whiners for years to come, while I enjoy the next great thing to have hit to mmorpg genre, Age of Conan.

COH not having levels 40-50 isn't a problem with release (the game ran well and had plenty of content to keep 99% of the players busy until they added 41-50) . They released with the amount of content they decided to release with and that content ran well with no problems. It's stretching to say that COH had problems with release. There are other MMO's that have had very solid releases and some I am unaware of any problems with.
There are many other MMO's that have released with out any significant problems and fact most releases tend to be pretty solid in the MMO industry anymore. In fact most of the games that have come out since 2005 that had significant problem w/ release, the whole game was a failure. D&L, Vanguard, Matrix,
People are mentioning its smooth mainly because OB is so rocky. Keep in mind the game is instanced so lag should not major issue like Wow luanch, plus the game ran on crappy servers i think the infrastructure for AoC is far better. The issues that have not yet been answered is if the game has substance and are the later zones non linear and have more unique mobs and quests? So far its just killing picts. Is it just leveling as fast as you can to 80 so you can do sieges or will the crafting and pve dungeons keep things interesting?
As far as the surprised part after that mess of a open beta I am probably the most shocked and surprised one on this board.

so it aint that smooth. but overall, the game seems to run extremely well, hopefuly thats not only because of the instanced start zone.
Early access went pretty well for me. I did crash one time and then spent about an hour trying to get back in again. Finally after visiting the main forums I found that I needed to delete some shader files on my hard drive and once I did that I got right back in with no further problems.
The combat system is pretty fresh and new and I'm enjoying it, not sure It will stay good long term though. AC was very fun when I first played but the combat system turned out to be so exploitable that it wasn't fun long term. The quests are pretty boring overall so far and the graphics aren't as good as advertised (I wasn't any more immersed by them than by WoW at least).
The real test is going to be tuesday when the servers are actually overloaded. The EA went great but that was controlled numbers so it should have been expected to be relatively smooth.
At this point I'd suggest the game to anyone who is bored with whatever they are currently playing for sure though. It is far too early to say whether this game is the next big thing or just a diversion but I think it will work as a diversion at the very least.
I'd buy it just for 30 days worth of game play if I knew for sure it would run on my rig. Had a bad problem with freezing in the beta ( yes I tried every work around and tweak you want are about to suggest ) and until I am convinced it will run on a E8400 mounted on a P35 chipset motherboard and 8800GTS/ 640 card I won't take a chance.

Not been so bad for me so far, except that most of my chars on 1 server only are stuck on crash loops and it seems like theres no GM support as yet, since I'm 1779 on the queue for assistance.
I really hope funcom don't introduce the same poor support they pioneered in AO since AOC is a decent game and deserves a bit more.

Where are all these problems coming from? I expected to come on here and see a ton of positive posts about how the game has improved by leaps and bounds from what we all saw in the beta, but instead I see this?
I have had zero problems playing so far, and my framerate from open beta has doubled with this release client. I've never crashed, and lag is below 100ms consistently.. it's never spiked yet.
So, where are all these problems coming from? I sure as hell haven't found them yet.
