Another "Will it run on my computer?" thread ;D

If I had a good computer or had enough money to build a better computer, I would hate these threads as well. I really want some advice though, I'm using a few-year old Dell Dimension 8400...I wish I'd never gotten a Dell now, it's making it hard for me to upgrade more than I have done.

I don't completely know all the specs of my computer, all I know is:

Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz

Memory: 3070MB RAM

Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2

Card name: ATI Radeon HD 3600 Series

Display Memory: 512.0 MB

I bought the graphics card on a budget of £50, I know it's not great but it's not as bad as what came with the computer either so... :) The processor is minimum requirements, I have a feeling I will get angry if I purchase AoC and realise I can only play it on bare minimum graphics and so I thought I'd ask here for peoples advice. Will my computer be able to run AoC with nice enough graphics that I won't want to gouge my eyes out with a rusty spoon. I don't want to play an ugly game, at the moment WoW and Guild Wars is about as pretty as my computer has seen and so I'm very worried about spending more money on a MMO that I won't play, save me from making the mistake of buying this game and tell me my computer will suck too much to be able to play it. Please.

Thankyou :D

It will probably run.. it's only the processor that might slow you down a bit. Everything else is good.

  • lordtooterlordtooter Member Posts: 28

That's what I thought. I am worried that the processor (which is at minimum req) will cause the game to be too sluggish for me to enjoy. :/ I really want the free mount so I posted here to find out peoples opinions as fast as possible so I can get on with ordering the game, heh.

Is anyone else playing the game on a similar computer rig?

If I have a Dimension 8200 Dell will that run?

  • lordtooterlordtooter Member Posts: 28

Well I have upgraded the ram and graphics card since I got my Dell...I'm guessing yours is worse than mine.

    Iam running on

    Duo core 2.8ghz

    1.5gb ddr2 ram

ati 9550 radeon video card (i have tweaked few things)

But still i get around 20-30 fps at low settings...

so yea you should be able to play game at around 20-30 fps in medium settings or better.....

I dont know where people got that AOC was huge resource hog so far it doesnt seems like....

Better Top end PCs will sure make u feel more involved ingame, Iam using 3year old computer to just test it out, in EA...so far no hiccups....

Edit: I have customized XP and Some Vid card tweaks... but still its 9550 !

Owch Harsh much? Seriously, not everyone is a computer-wizz. Myself included. I still don't know if AOC will run on my specs as well, seriously, if you have a website that could help, stop bitching about it and actually post it. Maybe then you will be of some help. And not everyone has hella cash to be spending out on their computers either you know. Way to go encourage more mmo players.

Question to others, will a NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS work? Or should I upgrade? I have a pretty new computer so I think I'll do okay on the other specs part. Its the graphics card I'm worried about.

[size=8]PLAYED: TSO, SWG, WOW, EQ2, Vanguard, FFXII, AOC, AION, Guild Wars, Second Life

    Waiting: SWTOR, FFXIV

How do you know whether his computer will  as you put it ' run the game, but not well.....more like crap so don't even bother! ' ?

Are you in Early Access with a similar setup? I suspect not . Just a gobby troll that spent more time flaming someone with a legitimate question than bothering to help trying to answer it.

For the OP - your setup is v similar to mine - I had problems in open beta with the framerate bouncing around all over the place (8-15 - sometimes 20 fps ) and couldn't get it to settle to anything acceptable or really playable in the player cities. I'm upgrading my RAM to 3gb tomorrow. I was in the same boat as you - undecided whether to get the game on preorder or not due to the probs I had.

But seeing the positive comments from people saying the performance has improved in the retail client, I just said sod it today and ordered from play.com to get the rhino. With a £2 rebate code it was £22.99 delivered. I'll be upgrading my PC in 2-3 months anyway so if my comp still struggles then I'll put the game on the shelf and come back to it.

When on the intro beach I was getting great framerates and the game looked sweet as a nut so fingers crossed it will all be good. If I can get 25-30 fps then I'll be well happy.

    Hope that helps

Yeah just cause my answers are very blunt and to the point and not suger-coated like all of u...I'm a troll!  I'm telling u how it is...not telling him to waste his money on something he won't be able to fully enjoy!

Dude... Chill it's a game and it's OUT (or almost). I understand your trolling before the game is out (not rly but w/e) but I don't really understand the amount of hate and behaving in this way.

Let it go... it's for the better believe me.

Engage in conversations but stop harassing and hating for the sake of it.

Thanks for that! I was only asking if anyone had used a similar computer, I'm not that bad computer-wise, I've just never played AoC before and would rather not waste more money that I don't have! I have used test websites etc, and I know my processor is minimum req...which is why I just wanted to know if anyone knew for sure how well it would play.

Katashi, I usually just laugh at people like you on the internet...but I really think you are a dick and just wanted to let you know ^.^!

you probably won't get top framerates with that system. i personally am running early access with an athlon x2 4600+, and a radeon 2600xt (and as far as i know 3600 is not much different from 2600). the system is running 10-20fps in medium settings the main problem is that changing settings to low doesn't give me any performance increase.

i also tried playing around with advanced settings, but it runs exact same speed for me with 2.0 shaders than with 3.0 (it even seemed to do slightly better with 3.0), it has a lot texture memory so lowering texture settings does not help too. only tweaks that improve it a bit is to reduce render range.

I think main problem with that card is not the shader power and also not the textures, i think its more some basic thing thats holding it back like that it cannot process enough polygons.

I still can't make my mind up whether to get it or not :( I know if I don't get it, I'll always be wanting to get it...and will never know how well it performs on my computer! I might get it, see how it goes, and wait to be given loads of money for free to build a new computer in the future.

    Hmmm...

For you, it would run on medium settings.. so why not get the game? I only have a crappy old ati x1600 mobility and I'm still buying the game. I'd rather have low settings than not play at all.

  • lordtooterlordtooter Member Posts: 28

    Medium you say? :o

I can run Crysis on medium btw...on a high enough resolution. Would you say Crysis is a good enough comparison?

Not really. Crysis was far more graphic hardware intensive than AoC, especially Crysis in Dx10.

You should definitely have no problems running the game. I've been reading the official AoC forums and everyone with an ATI X1950 and up seems to get good performance on medium-ish settings.

If you can run crysis you can run aoc

    Just ordered it!

    £23 from play.com :) thanks guys.

guess ill ask my question here, rather than start a new thread.

according to system requirements lab, my computer meets or passes minimum requirements. my concern is, that ive read that the older hardware wont run the game to a playable extent.

so, how much should i trust that sight? and in anyones opinion, what type of performance could i expect.

    pentium 4 3.06 ghz

    2 gig ram

ati radeon x1300 256mb video card.

yes the card is old, and thats why i ask the question, because according to the site its fine, yet most people think it wont cut it. i dont mind runninglow settings, or frame rates in the 15-20 range, just want to play (new comp is in the works in the next few months, but i cant wait lol). also, if it matters, i dont plan on too much pvp, mostly a pve player.

    any input welcome.

I have pretty much the same problem here. I have an Amd 4200+ x2 with 2500mb ram and an ati 2400 with 256mb. On the rerquieremt list it says 256 is ok but can i stil enjoy the gam without lag. Im pretty sure it will be ok when there will be no action on screen but when a big fight come im not sure 256mb video card are ok. id like an advice if possible.

I just did the Will it run test and i pass.   Question is, i had no doubt i was going to be running it, but running it is far from playing it smoothly.   With a 7600 GT card, i'm not sure what kind of performance i'll get....
