My bash on AoC bashers

airstrikeairstrike Member UncommonPosts: 373

First of all,i am not a fanboy but I enjoy AoC and was skeptic about playing it,but it turned out great.First of all please note, that there are 2-3 people hired by a company or just demented over-religious WoW fanboys that are making multiple accounts and posting rubish and lies with no backing.

Soo here it goes:

1.EA rant - it was stated time and time again that EA will be limited, alot of people either didnt read or waited until the last second to register before servers went up,well after you couldnt get it you started screaming, ranting etc. Well if you wanted to get into EA that bad ,it was in your best intrest to register the code sooner and not at the last freaking second.

2.OMG,AoC has hi-system specs - yeah it does,it isnt very friendly to whiney kids whos parents dont want to buy them a new comp, most of the client was very optimized at launch (note: most)

3.OMG,the whole game is instanced - only the first 5 levels you are put in a small linear instance, the rest are bigger zones, but I guess most bashers cant know this since they didnt even play passed lvl 5,exemples of large areas in tortage: "white sand isle"

4.Funcom scammed me - pray tell, how did they scam you ? it was your own fault for not reading,if you are incapable of reading then it is no one's fault except your own.

5.I noticed that alot of threads on the WoW forums were posted about how much AoC sucks and that everyone hated it ,note that this was on the day the EA servers were to be launched, but they didnt do enough research and posted sooner then even the servers where launched.Proves how desperate some kids are to keep mature people in their game to hold their hand.

Soo,sort story, dont belive threads that bash AoC made by people with less than 25 posts or that post on alts on their MMORPG forums.

    1) yes it was stated over and over again ON THEIR FORUMS, it was not stated on their advertisements or the pre order crads.

The cards said you cant even download the client till the 14th (which wasnt true)

It didnt say you had to sign up BEFORE the 14th.

Some people have jobs and arent rabid fanboys that follow the forums of a game that isnt even out yet, they pre ordered AOC for the early access, and made time to play it this weekend, all the literature on the adertisements and the pre order cards said, if you pre order you get into the ea, they didnt say "limited number" or you have to register before the 14th.

    4) they used ea to sell pre orders, and now they claim that the ea was never part of the pre order, even though the pre order clearly states that it provides you with 2 things, an ingame item and early access.

So tell me how getting people to pre order your product with the promise of early access, then not only not giving you that early access but also claiming they never promised early access not a scam?

Bah, I did not run away.....I got busy playing a better game and gave up!  AoC still does not live up to the hype and I'll admit from what I'm hearing a bit has changed since I last played but its still not even close to what it should have been!

I would like to add that I do not find the game perfect, but what shocked me the most was the lack of any immaturity atleast on my PVE server.Everyone was enjoying the game, the only thing some people whined about was that their FPS sucked and that their new comp wasnt arriving soon enough.

In regards to your comment on EA. A lotta people are mistaken and it pisses me off that theyre calling us lazy or too slow to activate. This is simply not true.

I pre-ordered my game from Amazon (big mistake) 2 months ago. And despite my numerous emails and complaints, I did NOT receive my EA CD key code until the 17th. I therefore had ZERO chance to get into the EA. This clearly wasnt my fault and I have every right to be upset over this.

    Bump for great justice.

Just not even 2 hours ago, I logged into my old game EQ2...saw a massive discussion on AoC with the words "suck" in the sentence..

When approached about why it sucked, was all old rhetoric or misinformation...then I was eventually attacked for slamming EQ2 when I noted the great things about AoC...yet, they did not realize or even begin to think that I was still playing EQ2 as well..I enjoy both games immensely..

But, it sure does make me question the community when they are closed minded without even trying the game in the first place....

templarga don't call back the AoC haters. I'm fed up with them and I'm glad even they are ashamed of all the bull they've put out for the last months. Looks like they're gone and good riddance. Hell I might even be as graceful and welcome them to join us in Hyboria.

Some of them nevertheless ought to do some soulsearching. They didn't listen to facts but their wishes. Too bad. When politicians act that way they make wars in the pretence of self-defence (read:WMD).

    Yeah well...

actualy youre wrong again, before they whiped the thread on the official forums it was also pointed out that funcom failed to send some retailers the pre order cards on time and told them to sell pre orders anyway. the funny thing is, funcom then sent them the cards even though they didnt have the room in the ea.

    Right

You have a right to be angry..

At Amazon...as that is ZERO Funcom's issue

Well...my opinion is simply that the AoC engine is one of the most stable engines I've seen for an Early Access / Launch client.

Server shutdowns are announced well in advance, the client itself is stable only server side communication is 1% out (the game stuck whilst changing instances once in about 7 hours).

The fact is, if launch goes relatively smoothly, then Funcom will have redeemed themselves on that score.

As for the Fileplanet / Early Access registration, well.....Funcom aint wholely to blame for those hiccups.

This goes out to those who missed out on Early Access:

Guys I'm sure you're pissed, but rest assurred, you're gunna love it, the game is rock solid.  There are extremely minor issues which no doubt Funcom will nail in the next few days.  If not, you probably won't notice them.   The quality of product will far outweigh the problems you're currently having with it.

You wont see many haters now. They are to scared to post anything negative at this moment and are probably surprised how excellent the game is.

The game had a fantastic launch and when I was doing CB and OB, all I kept on seeing in the Open Beta Testers was, the game wont be ready, they need to at least put another 2 years into it.

Now I will admit, the OB had lots of crashes and hookups, but apparently ppl were not taking the Close Beta testers information seriously. We were slammed for being fanboys and dreamers.

I am glad that FUNCOM released such an excellent mmo, we all needed a new mmo since alot of them have been rehashed by korean mmo's out there.

on a side note, there is that old saying.

Dont count your chickens before they hatch in which the nayers did.

Ive seen this happens in ALL online games Ive played

You'll see the same stuff in AOC, when WAR launches -- WAR sucks etc

I'm not a hater - I think the game is great. I would say though that the minimum specs listed on the box are utter nonsense. Min specs should be just that - the minimum specs you need to play the game. There I think Funcom was engaged in a little wishfull thinking. 1 GB Ram? Really?

  • impulsebooksimpulsebooks Member Posts: 561

I like AOC, but I don't think it's perfect because nothing is. I haven't reached a level where I can comment on pvp, but the pve is very smooth so far.

Re the instancing. Yes there is a lot of this, and I discount the white sands Isle comment because although it is a big instance (its an entire instanced zone really) it does still require a loading screen. Some people hate that but I'm on the fence. I prefer not to have loading screens if at all possible, but AOC's load times are very small, and I can ignoe them. Most take less that 10secs on my system, and I am very happy with that so far. Not sure what it will mean for pvp, but I have faith that should it b a problem a fix will be implemented.

No doubt there will be a even bigger uproar/bash fest on WAR here expecialy that WAR wont have official forums.

MY CARD says "Some restrictions apply see registration page for detail" --- Any person in thier right mind would have looked to see what restriction they are speaking of-- once you go to thier registration page you would have known it was first come first server----- so i guess this was your fault--ooops your bad

Secondly, the FIRST thing my card said was GO TO http:/register.ageofconan.com and enter your key. So when i read that i immediatly went and registered.----- again if you would have done what the card says you would have known----  it didnt say " Wait til the last minute and register" either.

Thirdly, the only thing you were PROMISED by pre-ordering was in-game itmes.  The EA was an exclusive limited time offer which WAS NOT promised but by preordering ,you had a chance to get in not a reserved spot. Again YOUR BAD ,you would have known if you even looked into it a lil tiny bit.

Fourth, its called a marketing promotion. Any smart company uses this strategy to promote thier selves and thier products.

LAST---- i agree that it never said on the card " limited to first # of players to register"-- YOU ARE RIGHT ABOUT THAT

But on the other hand i dont remember seeing the word PROMISE anywhere on the card either

i would say YOUR BAD for not looking into  and researching something you were willing to spend money on

would you buy a car without reading the fine print- i think not

I think most of the uproar came from those of us who never got cards at all. I doubt anyone who had a card would not have entered the key promptly... maybe I am wrong??

    back to the EA topic...

I dont blame Funcom for how Amazon didnt send me the CD Key code until it was too late. However, it was surprising to me (and many others) that there was a limit on Early Access at all.

Ive played many MMO's and several have offered early access if you pre-ordered. NONE of them limited that early access to the 1st - thousands that signed up ! If 400k signed up, then 400k got in. If 20k signed up, then 20k got it.

CoH is the last MMO that I recall that offered a 3 day early access key if you pre-ordered the game. Everyone got into CoH, there was no limit.

I suspect this limiting the numbers is merely an attempt by Funcom to avoid the disastrous launch that happened with their previous MMO (AO). They wanted one last test before launch day to see how the game and servers would handle things.

For players like me, its somewhat upsetting that Im getting left out. Some of the most exciting times are when the servers are completely fresh and new and everyone is learning how to play the game. Having to wait 4 days after hundreds of thousands have already been there / done that is an eternity (i get to wait an extra day for amazon to ship me the game bleh)

not all websites said "some restrictions may apply" for starters. If you had read the other threads you'd know this. I pre-ordered from Amazon and it said NOTHING about there being a limited supply of keys until about a week ago. They added that after thousands of us fired off emails complaining.

Second, most of the complaints were valid because we simply had NOT received our cd key codes. I pre-ordered the game 2 stinkin months ago and I didnt receive my cd key code until yesterday.

clearly we are not at fault and have every right to be upset. There shouldnt even be a limit on early access anyway. No other MMO limited its early access programs

But on the other hand i dont remember seeing the word PROMISE anywhere on the card either

i would say YOUR BAD for not looking into  and researching something you were willing to spend money on

would you buy a car without reading the fine print- i think not

not all websites said "some restrictions may apply" for starters.

Again, that is Amazon's fault and not Funcom's fault.
