I've been looking forward to EQ2 for quite awhile but haven't really looked that much into it other than trialers and screenies and what not. Anyways I love content and all the other stuff that makes a game great. But I beta tested CoH and lvoed the game but what caused me not to buy it was the fact of no pvp for a good while. So Now I'm asking, if I love pvp and would like to do it often and some lvl in the game would EQ2 fit my needs?
I play SWG because it was largely based on PvP although u don't gain much now and even though I have a jedi and he's about done but the lack of pvp and people leaving is really starting to bug me.

Hate to break it to you but there is 0% plans for EQ2 haveing pvp at launch. I dont even think theres going to be duel arenas at launch. It could take a couple months atleast before the game has more pvp then just duel arenas but they never said when they were going to add pvp just that there will be none at launch so im just guessing there wont be any semi-open pvp or a pvp server for atleast 3 months after release.

If you really want pvp, wait for Dark and Light, or Darkfall Online, or one of the other games designed from the ground up for pvp. It's not a priority for EQ2, and will most likely be roughly the same pvp setup as regular EQ. Though, the devs have said they have some sort of spiffy plans for pvp that'll be way cool, but they haven't released any details yet.

Well as i posted oh 1 year ago ,EQ is based around PvE.And EQ2 will not fall far from the tree.
Eventually there will be a pvp server as an afterthought to drag in the extra $$$ but that will be it.SoE will most likely balance out a class in PvE before even dreaming off doing so for PvP.
In EQlive, look how many times they did nerfs/boost for all the classes. In pvp they rarely touched most classes.
Yes, if you want PVP, you probably should look toward Dark and Light or Vanguard. I believe both are centralized on PvP. They will probably hold you over until EQ2 figures out what they are going to do on the PvP front, which as others have indicated, won't be until after launch.
I'm sure they will have PvP at some point, but it's a matter of them figuring out how to handle that, be it consentual on existing servers or dedicated PvP servers. All remains to be seen.

And you know DnL's server will be down alot how? Anandtech?
As for their population, as long as they clear around 50K subs, they'll be just fine. It just means people will actually know each other, rather than having 90% of the server being anonymous strangers. There are plenty of games out there with a small playerbase that do just fine.

Ah, I see the "Play Nice" rule from EQ1 has extended itself into a game called EQ2.

Think about it.... servers cannot be up at all times and that is why most mmorpgs have a more than one server. So when one goes down, others are up- not so with DnL. Put a whole population on one server, its going to be laggy. There is no way that its going to get 50k sub. With 50k sub, hardly does everyone knows each other.

I guess you havn't heard of server clusters have you? Eve-Online has one server cluster for the whole world and it is down for maintenence only one hour a day unless a patch screws up. In addition Dark and Light has a new technology that evenly distributes the CPU load throughout the cluster so that large battles can occur anywhere without server side lag (at least larger than has yet been seen).
If you want to socialize in Dark and Light stay with you clan mates or center your activities around one county. Dark and Light is about options and choices. You are not limited to playing the game only one way because of obsolete technology and a conservative game design.
Dark and Light will be in open beta before the end of the year. It goes gold in the first quarter of 2005.
Play nice policy never had anything to do with pvp.All it stated was players should respect each other(unless u think pvp means going around killing newbies and spamming "i ownz u").
Though from what i heard play nice policy is dying in EQ because of poor GM support to enforce it

As somone else pointed out, you just cluster your server. So you have ServerA and ServerB in your cluster. Take ServerA down and it fails over to ServerB. Minimal to no visible outage. Upgrade ServerA, bring it back online and fail back over to ServerA. Take ServerB down, upgrade and bring it back online.
Also, when they say "One world", it doesn't necessarily mean it's one server. Actually, if you go check out BigWorlds architecture, you can utilize a server farm and still have one single persistant world.
But WoW, as much as I might look forward to the game, isn't designed with pvp from the ground up, like Darkfall, or DnL. From what I've read on the beta forums, WoW suffers from the same pvp balance issues that EQ did. Hopefully, they'll iron all that out by the time the game foes live.
My experience has been that games designed to be pvp from the get go are generally better balanced, and have a better pvp model than a game like EQ which is designed for pve, then has pvp tacked on after the fact.

Right now AO aka Anarchy Online has the best PvP out of every single MMORPG. It has PvP done right. Players can kill players much higher level than them. And you can defend your land even while you are offline, your guild is offline, or you are off adventuring.
DAoC is a distant 2nd place with decent PvP. SB is a distant 3rd. The problems in both are that enemies simply wait for you or your guild to log off then take what you/your guild won.
Special mention about he PvP in EvE Online. But it is worth checking out only if you like Sci-Fi MMORPGs. There are tons of spaceships, astroids, etc... it is all in space. AO is also Sci-Fi, but it is on 1 HUGE planet. And does have many Fantasy-themed elements. (You can fight with swords, sticks, knives, various double bladed weapons, etc... and every single character can duel weild - IF you choose to.)
SWG could have the BEST ever PvP, or at least be tied with AO. But the problem with SWG is there is nothing to PvP for. There is no landcontrol. Bonuses to killing other players. Nothing that AO has.

No monthly fee for Guild Wars? How is that possible? How do they plan on making money? Surely not from initial game sales. It is to expensive to keep an MMOG running. And ya, it does look like it is going to be a cool game.

Yea, Guild Wars really does looks cool. Since there is no monthly fee I'll probaly play eq2 for the pve and guild wars for the pvp.

tons and tons of people will buy it because of no monthly fee , hell im getting it just cuz thers no monthly fee , + there will probaly be alot of expansions.

LOL, in Guild wars you will have to buy expansion packs every 2 months or so. You just have to buy the new content patches instead of having them included in a monthy fee. Admittedly it is a new and ingenious system. This is possible because Guild Wars is a questing game and not a persistent immersive open-ended MMORPG.
