works -open in notepad and use find shadermodel -easyer then looking for it!

    Although I can login to the game (at least until it black screens and crashes), but official forums don't recognize my userid and password.  Could you copy the relevant bit of the post to this forum, so that  I can try it on my system?

    Can you please Post the fix because AoC's support page and forums are becoming in my book an EPIC fail!   This is really pissing me off with all the problems. 1st the Game came in early I went to go get it and install it.  I'm using Vista 64 and this is the first game I've had any problems out of from 8 i have installed.  The patch manager doesn't' work and the only way I could get it to F'n work was to install the "early access" version to even get the patch manager to work.  Now that I got logged in I keep getting this black screen during character creation and i have to reboot.  Never had this problem before in any games.  I know early access and betas expect some problems but holy cripes this is sickening.  This game better f'n own or I am requesting my money in every way from Funcom.

    ATI9800, x800 and x850 series Issues



    The above mentioned graphic cards only support Shader Model 2.0 and systems running the game on these cards with default settings might experience symptoms like flickering black screen and shaky rendering.



    This issue can be fixed like this:



    1) Start the game. When you hear the music starting, a prefs file has been written and you can edit it (in Notepad for example).



    2) To find this, you must go to control panel->folder options->view->turn on see hidden files and folders.



    3) It is found at the following location on your PC

    VISTA: C:Users[user name]AppDataLocalFuncomConanPrefsprefs_2.xml

    XP: c:documents and settings[user name]Local SettingsApplication DataFuncomPrefsprefs_2.xml



    4) Edit the line called <Value name="RenderSetting_ShaderModel" value="1" />



    5) It should read <Value name="RenderSetting_ShaderModel" value="0" />



    6) Issue should be fixed then.



    i apoloise for such lateness of a reply- but i have been playing since last night feall a sleep so i forgot abot the post the above fix works -do search for shadermodel as looking for it would take far too long.

    Not sure if this will help anyone but I read last night this one guy had black screen but sound.  Decreased his res and it suddenly worked. 

     

    Maybe try it if you can.  Good luck to those having issues.

    you need to log into your funcom account and update your forum name and password in your AoC account page. after that give it about 30mins. and you should be able to log in. they reworked the entire forums.
