patching problems, help

I have the retail DVDs which i installed and when i started patching, it went slow for a while and eventually just gave the message "could not connect to patch server. can not continue". this happens every time i launch the patcher. anyone know a fix? i tried disabling firewall bypassing router etc. are the patch servers down or is it just me?

as in it goes straight to the error message. no slow download after the first time. i keep restarting it with no progress. been at it since last night.

Their patch servers are obviously having issues, I can't even patch since the game locked up on me....It just sits there saying "Downloading Patch Information".

So, I'm just gunna keeping trying.  Apart from this hiccup the game runs fine and doesnt crash.

im still getting the could not connect to patch server error. could it be my side of the connection? im pretty sure its not cause i had the patch going for 2 hours yesterday, then it cut to this message. but who knows? anyone know if i can forward certain ports or anything to attempt to solve it?

Same story for me, as well. I'm sure this isn't an isolated incident. I'm just glad I didn't fork out the $5 or I'd be somewhat steamed. I just hope FC can get their act together before Tuesday so I can actually download that 15g "patch."

I make spreadsheets at work - I don't want to make them for the games I play.

Actually there isn't many people having problems.  no serious complaints in the game apart from the odd couple of people reporting fps issues, but the game engine itself is 99% stable.

Personally I'm glad I forked out the $5 as I'm having a great time

There is no 15GB patch.  I recommend reinstalling, for both of you.

There are log files in the install folder, have a look at them, maybe they'll point you in the direction of the problem (which to me sounds more like a firewall / router issue than anything else).

Post your specs including Operating system, maybe that will shed some light on whats going on.

Btw, the game is just coming back online, been down for a few hours.

EDIT:  Hang on....you're trying to use the retail DVD's? hmmm a friend tells me that because we're in EA the retail edition might not work yet.  FYI, I downloaded my version from the funcom account login for AoC.  Hence why I'm not seeing this issue.

thats odd. i have some friends that used the retail cds to patch up before launch. they arent in EA either.

Perhaps that is the problem though I can't be sure.  Maybe the EA launch setup is slightly different to the retail CD setup, hence why you're struggling.  If you're in the EA and have a friend who downloaded the EA installation, perhaps you can get a copy of the files from him / her? I know, its huge.  27Gb.  But I don't know, maybe you have a friend with an external Hard drive, like me.

I just installed the retail DVD version and I got the "Fatal Error Failed to download patch information file".  I'm assuming the retail patch servers are down for some reason.  Anyone else out there having same problems or able to get it going?

I did find that you need to have port forwarded if you are behind a firewall (7000-7999)  Didn't help any at all
