hmm got to wonder if OP is paid plant considering has written review with same things before in another thread. The game is good but as i said there lot of issues that are still question mark (content 20+, not much substance to the gameplay, not much uniqueness when it comes to mobs, how good is crafting?, instances are supposedly heavily bugged people are just running in killing the boss and running out etc). Which you do not go much into.
Me work for Funcom. LOL! I don't think so. They couldn't afford me! Well maybe now they could...but seriously...I do not work for them...and have no affiliation with them. I am a gamer just like you.
I haven't written a review yet. I won't until I have played the game to like level 40. The way I did with Vanguard. I was honest and upfront with my Vanguard review and I'll do the same with AoC. Does AoC have issues? Yep. is the game perfect? Ummm....not even. It is missing some things I really, really want to see added for RP purposes. Plus I am not fond of instancing....at all. However....I think Funcom has done this game right the way they did it and it works.
The game runs so beautifully...it makes games like Vanguard seem archiac! The ammount of poly's in the characters is unreal and to have it play as smoothly as it does and I am running in 1920x1200 res with full shadows and high textures...and....and...OMG...it is a sight to behold on my 24' monitor. Just beautiful!
Animations are so well done. Puts all other games in this genre to shame.
OK enough all ready....I'll do my review in about 2 months. I have to go catch a plane. You guys have fun playing. IfI am lucky I''ll get some play time on my laptop. CYA!
Yeah i am just seeing if the game has substance to sustain itsself couple weeks from know. The level 1 to 20 content is great but after that? From what i understand from what i have read CB peeps loved the first weeks of the game but quickly grew tired of the gameplay and 20+ content which was more MMOish than the first levels.
Great game, great release. I've been looking for the next best game since EQ... Wow - lol no; EQ2 was pretty lame...Vanguard was just boring after a while...but this looks like it may be the one!

i have a friend at level 30....hes still having a blast.
Yeah sounds like it....I call these guys Doomsayers....they are the guys worried the game will succeed and take their Internet buddies from the game they play or can't play it because Mommy won't let them upgrade there computer. The game is insane. I played Warhammer Online beta (uninstalled it too) and it doesn't even compare to the fun this game has. Look at the posts on here and everywhere else....for every 20 awesome posts about the game 1 doomsayer sticks his head in and tries to down it....
The game is great; and it does requier some skill to play, you do actualy have to pay attention to play this game one of the aspects of MMOs that I hated before; as much as I love the genre most games you can lieraly play a fight with your eyes closed its all a matter of timing, with AoC they have added a few unfamiler elements with the shilding system and directional attacks.
I do hear a lot of people complain that its to easy, it is rather easy through thouse first few levels though does ramp up; I am playing a few diffrent classes out so I wont be able to speak on mid to high levels for some time but just in 10-15 levels I can see some ramp up how far it goes or how sharp it gets I cant say but no I would not call it to easy, at least not at this point.
This game is amazing. I didn't realize how dumbed down I was by so many games that have the auto attack feature. A few times I'm getting my ass kicked and I think to myself "oh crap! hit attack!" Or if you slip into the grind mindset for a few moments and just click one or two attack buttons and the mob shifts its defense. A MMO requiring some skill is like a breath of fresh air, too bad I'm so spoiled and out of shape! AoC isn't going to be for everyone but I highly recommend EVERYONE plays it at least once and checks it out. As far as launches go it was very smooth, GJ Funcom!!!
The EA release didn't go as smooth as we could have wished for, and when I patched I, - as many others -, got a corrupted file.
I deided to just reinstall the whole thing and patch up, since it's not that big a deal for me to be first on a server, and also the name I've decided on is probably not gonna be taken anyway. By the time I got to pathcing, they had fixed, and even added a new PvP server to both EU and US.
The game itself so far is just great for me The only thing that makes me stop is the need for sleep once in awhile, and I've played enough MMO's to take better care of my body, even with EA
Yea we may not know alot of the content yet, but so far I'm very pleased. Those with low-end laptops may not be able to enjoy this game much, but there are enough settings for most computers out there to have it run good enough.
I've said it before perhaps but I knew this game would be good, same as I say with Anarchy Online. The beauty of AO, the longest journey, had me convinced, even with all it's tech issues, Funcom is dedicated to making a pearl of a game
To the OP though, Funcom has stated that after release the real work begins so I don't think they're going on any vacation soon
But yes Funcom I think Funcom just did it again, made another awsome game.
hmm got to wonder if OP is paid plant considering has written review with same things before in another thread. Maybe because they have no idea what an mmorpg is about? Sounds to me like a bunch of console singleplayer FPS bunnies suddenly found out that the game is an mmo and couldn't handle it. Too bad for them.
On topic, great job Funcom. You have successfully cornered the market on both sci-fi and fantasy with AO and AoC in my opinion.
Hm.. Just tossing out a question .. Is there more open space later on ? Right now it is spawn rape. And if you get away from the spawn area they will always find you. Level 10 atm, mixed emotions for me
If you are level 10, you should be able to continue in the nighttime in Tortage questline. I've had very few problems being ganked and I'm playing on Deathwhisper. I've only had to level 9 -10 and 13-15 so far during the day, since reaching the city of Tortage.
Age of Conan is amazing. I am totally convinced it will sell out everywhere within short, because the word is getting out on the street. I've played basically every MMO, and AoC is the clear reigning champ of recent years and I see NOTHING on the horizon to challenge it. Just like Ultima Online and Everquest also were champs - but today we are talking a mass market beyond compare to what was "the old days".
The char creation is just endless ( the characters are so different and so lifelike, and so scary, sexy, mature - its mindboggling).
The combat is insane. Easy at first, but so many combinations and skills that one can just grow and grow and grow with game. Very much like what Guildwars did an excellent job on, but now in a "full world" setting that Guildwards absolutely did not have.
The choices and the way the game fits for everyone is very strong. One can chose PvE server and happily run around and go slow. I mean, even my mother could play this game. Then it scales up in complexity. Like Blizzard did, this game is SO easy to get into, but SO hard to master. I suggest everyone that are even remotely contemplating AoC to get the game NOW, because the skills needed to become a master are better started practied sooner than later.
Graphics - OH MY GOD HOW IT SCALES WELL. On a 8800GT it supersmooth, and very unexpected on even my portable it is VERY playable and unbelievably beautiful!
Maturity - YES, no more CARTOON GRAPHICS. No more ELVES and ORCS and TROLLS. Low-fantasy, I so like it!
Audio - unbelievable music, all written in pure 5.1 surround, meaning EACH speaker has a seperate audio stream - this is not a mix, its composed for 5.1, and the music and audio is just.. gah.
Immersion: Fantastic. If you guys thought Tortage Island areas were good, wait until you run through Conall's Valley (Cimmerian area) where there is a war going on between Vanirs and Cimmerians. Birds circle overhead, smoke rises up, you see people way off in the distance, you can climb mountains to the highest outlook points, hide in shadows. Aaaargh.
I am just typing this because the servers are down - but my conclusion is crystal clear: 10/10
THIS GAME WILL ROCK YOUR SOCKS OF IF YOU HAVE EVEN THE SLIGHEST LIKING FOR A MATURE MMO
See you all in Hyboria - I chose Culture PvP server (Cimmeria vs Aqulonia vs Stygia). Less ganking - more fun!
oh and yeah I could go on and on about the stabilty, ping times, skill-trees, fatalities, hidden quests, pvp-mini games --- but why... this game just owns the world of MMOs now.
All I have to say to Warhammer Online is "good luck, you'll need it... badly"
I must say they did great job fixing all the issue , coz there was really lot to fix , But the did it.
Thank for not betraying our hope's for this game , I made the right choice , now let's see how much fun I can have in a lvl 80 siege battle , I cant wait !!!!
Comments
Ive been lurking on the mmorpg.com AoC forums for quite a while now. I figured i would create an account just concur with you.
This game is AMAZING!
Its not perfect, im not a huge fan of the instancing...but other than that no complaints.
Funcom has earned themselves a customer for months to come!
Thank you that is all!
you make me jealous....i cant wait till Friday

I haven't seen this sort of praises from gamers since the release of WoW.

Funcom has definitely redifined this genre. Funcom set the bar and it is really high now. Other companies take notes!

I must say I am impressed with the launch. Nice Job.

Don't roll on a pvp server unless you can handle ganks. It will and does happen. Casual pvp'er can still pvp on a pve server.
