Lets talk Classes

So, what classes are impressive so far to you? What are you enjoying most?

I am level 15 Ranger right now. Despite the cries of the Ranger class being a disaster, I like it so far. Biggest challenge really is deciding when to be in Ranged or Melee...especially in PVP. The Ranger can do both well, but seems neither overpowered.

I have seen a ton of Pom and ToS so far......

Conquerers that I have run into so far seem invulnerable. They are nasty.

But I am only level 15 and I never got past 21 in beta.

Awesome game funcom

  • I haven't played yet, but I'm interested in any info on Dark Templars and Necromancers, since those are the two most interesting to me right now.

    Don't do Necro... just don't.

Conq and Assassin seem the best route at the moment on a PvP server.

I've enjoyed Rangers and Barbarians the most so far. I also played a Herald of Xolti until 13, but he seemed to get owned in PvP so I stopped playing him.

Necros are awesome in PvP, but they seem a little OP atm. I'm sure they will get nerfed.

My Guardian is kickin' some arse. . .

I have a level 14 ranger. I thought there'd be more focus on the bow, instead it seems 50/50 between bow and melee, not really what I was looking for. I haven't seen much of the other classes, been too busy dealing with the single player nonsense.

Right now I have a level 13 Hearld of Xolti and I'm liking him right now.  Like most mages, I can't hold too much, but the damage output is pretty decent.

I just rolled a Dark Templar, I played them alot on open beta.  Dark Templar is one of my favorite classes.  It's like an evil version of Paladins, in a sense.  They can take a good beating and can dish out some nice combos and spells.

As of right now, I dislike Rangers, but I think it's because I've only came across Rangers that were gankers.  Like...not legit ganking either.  The kind of ganking that happens when your half alive when fighting a mob and they come in and attack you.  Pussies pretty much.  But from what I hear Rangers are pretty decent.

Has anyone tried any of the healing classes?

I have tried ranger and conq and I prefer my ranger so far. I haven't really done any PvP yet. Even though the US RP server is PVP their isn't much griefing going on so its nice, but I'm looking forward to large scale PVP down the road.

I've been playing PoM exclusively and it's been quite enjoyable so far. Level 14 and few issues killing mobs so far. downtime is near non-existent.

Tempest of Set, Current level: 20

The ToS is kinda difficult in the beginning until you get Quicksand, our major crowd control spell. After you get quicksand, play is very fun and I can take on mobs 5 deep if they are all melee.

Since Lightning Strike is an AOE right now via feats this is my typical combat.

    LS = Lightning Strike (AOE)

CB = Charged Blast (almost instant direct damage)

    QS = Quick Sand (CC)

Combat goes LS, LS, CB, QS, back up a few steps, LS CB, QS, backup a few steps. rinse and repeat.

Since QS and LS are both AoE, it lets me take down multiple mobs at once, with ease.

Since the mobs are usually able to get a couple hits in between QS, I can toss a heal in there. Usually Life of Set an instant cast Heal of Time.

Cobra Stare also comes in handy as a great cc but has a 30s cooldown.

All the rambling aside, the ToS so far is all about crowd controling mobs while you unload on them. It can get very tricky at times, but that is what makes it fun!

note: I died a lot until I got Qiuck Sand. Since then I rarely die.

I am playing a Priest of Mitra and I am very pleased. (up to lvl 16 atm)

You can easly take care of yourself.

The healing spells wont save you if you get into a lot of trouble, but if you pull smart and don't attack several  mobs 3-4 lvls higher, stuff dies easly and the PoM easly survives.

Most of the times you can single or double pull. Having to fight more than 2 at a time is rather rare.

Personally I am loving the Rebuke and Lance of Mitra combination.

I am looking forward to testing out new spells

Oh, I do not have any mana issues so far. I am keeping my mana regen. skill at max though.

Regen.  in general is very fast.  No waiting or sitting around.

Lvl 1-20 feels like a fast pased Neverwinter Nights or Dark Messiah. Excellent for the RGP lovers and the MMORP aspect doesn't vanish.

Servers should be back up, so bye bye

Yeah, the  50/50 thing with the Ranger ( Melee/ Ranged) is very different. Plus we have rogue abilities to boot.

I heard that at least in Beta Rangers were good early on, then start to fall off at later levels.

Really, by the Time I hit 80 everything will of changed 3x over so Im just playing what is the most fun for me right now.

Yeah but they did get some last minute buffs before EA came.

I started with a Barbarian and played him to 18. I was thinking I'd be doing major damage with a 2 hander, but found I did more damage with dual wield, now I'm not sure what to do with him.

I started a Guardian on  a  pvp server  (first time ever on a pvp server) I'm at 14 and so far I'm really enjoying him and the server.  The ganking isn't that bad, and I noticed people are alot more social and tend to stay close together for protection. Anyways getting off topic, I like having a pure fighter, no magic, no sneaking. I think a guardian's strong point will be knockbacks.

Even though I'm 30 I just had to see it for myself lol. I created a priestess of set or whatever it is just to see her E-boobies. Cause really nobody is flashing which i thought for sure I'd see. Anyways seriously though, wow, very nice. Now i'll just leave her naked so I can look at her once in awhile on my log on screen.

Can't wait for the servers to get back up!

I read in a previous post about assassin beeing able to find and disarm traps, as well as climb. I didnt realize that traps where implemented in the game. Is assassin the only class whith the disarm trap ability?

  • MinscMinsc Member UncommonPosts: 1,353

well as a 24 assassin I haven't seen any traps or trap disarming skill.

I'm loving my assassin so far, especially in PVP, sitting with an 87 and 12 k:d ratio atm and before you even ask no I'm not spawncamping. Actually my guild has been making any spawncampers we see cry at every chance we get.

Level 20 Dark Templar here..  haven't had too much issues with PvE.. being able to take on 3-4 at once with little down time.

Haven't really engaged in PvP that much but when I was jumped I didn't last too long. Right now it seems to me the lower end gear + only 1 hand dmg + your life leech isn't that high just isn't enough.

However I'm a complete noob at this game right now and really still just learning how to fight properly. Also I've read that DT's actaully become survivability machines later on so.. *crosses fingers*

Since someone asked, I'm only at lvl 15 with my necro but so far its benn pretty decent but is only based on 15 levels which is not really a very good relflection.

PvE wise unlike other pet classes I've played,  the pets are not for tanking while you dot away, I read this before I played one but to be totally clear. If you send your pet into a mob it will ignore the pet and come straight for you before you do any damage at all. You have a 2 min cooldown spell to enable your pets to hold agro for 15 secs but it breaks incredibly easily, other than that I'm not completely certain what they are for. They have very low dps, the most pets I've had at one time was 6, all on a single same level mob they did a bit of damage but the resurected pets dont last nearly long enough imo, (around a minute, although I've not times it).

However also unlike other cloth classes you can take a bit of a beating and you will do decent damage with your weapon (sometimes better than your spells :/ ). The strength or utility of the class is its aoe spells, currently at 15 there are 3 aoe's, 1 dot, 1 (quick casting, almost instant) instant damage and 1 channeled dot. So far it's fairly evident you may as well grind multiple mobs because you damage pretty much at the same speed as a single mob (except boss').

PvP, I'm no PvP god but I wouldn't play the game without ffa servers (it would have been better RvRvR but meh) these examples are ALWAYS from being attacked first (1v1 examples). I thought I would be thoroughly pissed off (especially as on a PvP server) however I havn't found it nearlly as bad as the reviews I had read maybe it gets worse for Necro's later on.

1v1 I have lost only 1 out of around 9 or so varying classes slightly above or the same level the one I lost was to a tank (not sure which, this is the only tank I remember 1v1) and when I died, I'd barely scratched him. Rangers so far all sat down they did about equal damage at range but when I went up close for the aoe (I know it sounds weird) they didn't really match and when they got v low the instant aoe does good damage, takes around 10-15%  from most I fought. Fought a couple demo's (my 2nd choice) one was very close the other was easy, never run or turn from them or you die, their root  prevent you from turning even when you can cast and its evil, the closer one had me rooted for the entire fight. just dps'ing each other I lived with literally no hp.

Grouped, well I was in a group of 2, actually not so good, but then I don't know how to play the class very well yet. I always wanted to get in amongst for the aoe's to kick off as I felt thats where my damage was and like I said for a clothy you don't insta die as in some other games. I got ganked by a group of guildies (4) while questing (I think they wanted the area). You will die every time. However I wanted to see if I could take 1 with me. After the 3rd time I took the rogue (type not sure which) and camped his ass until he logged. Then it was a bit easier to kill 1 out of the other 3 (1 would usually stay with the mob they were fighting). But I died A LOT, but then I expected to, which imo is a problem, there needs to be a death penalty of some sorts because I just hounded them for a few hours to test my class with no draw back to myself at all.

I have no points in hiding or perception, just full in cating and mana regen. All feats so far in the unholy dot.

All in all it 'feels' like a class that could be mastered it all depends on how it progresses in accordance with the others but I'm not overly estatic nor dissapointed in Pve or PvP (although I feel PvE is probably this classes forte as it stands now). Tbh I'm kinda thinking what with it being the weakest class it will be the first with the buffage and then you will all pay for your gankageing whhoowahhaaaaa. Sorry if this is too long and annoying for anyone.

Im also wondering how the ranger will do at later levels in Pvp.  Im trying to decide if I like my Barb or Ranger more... and I dont want to play a gimped class in pvp.  I wish people in closed beta could tell us their experiences.

For the bear shaman, i noticed in open beta (lvls 1-13) hardly anyone seemed to pick bear shaman becuse they werent too great.  But a high population of people who I know were in closed beta seem to pick the bear shaman - signifying that they get really good at the higher levels.

I've been playing HoX and I must say i was originally a bit skeptical but after you get to 10 it starts to pick up. Before then your pretty much forced to use a couple combos and a close range fire spell while getting beat up in your cloth armor. I thought the demon form would be more of an important aspect of the HoX game play but it really hasn't yet I only have been using it for boss battles and when fighting multiple enemies. At 10 you get some much needs defensive buffs and as soon as I got those I really started to enjoy the class.

Bear Shaman is either fubar either I dont know to play it (ofc I don't know but I still think its bad). Neither healer, neither dmg, neither armor :/ Suxzor, can't kill even single mob 1-2 lvl higher then me. And his heals are a cruel joke

im suprised people are reporting seeing a lot of PoM around (or playing them). I saw a poll on funcom's site and it was the least popular class of the group.

I like to play the least popular classes so I guess PoM is out now for me. What other classes have you seen very few of ? Assassin very popular or rare ?
