DOOM3 Graphics LOOK better then EQ2 on 1st glance, but in all honestly the EQ2 engine is much more powerful. SOE just designed the EQ2 engine to be somewhat future proof in that to run the game reasonably with everything turned on you will need a computer and video card that will be out sometime next year for the masses.
Were as if you have $8,000 to spend on a top end Alienware computer then you could probly run with everything turned on, but still I bet if you went into a crowded zone your FPS would drop considerably.
DOOM3 was designed to do exactly what it does in the game, be dark and scary with a high FPS, even game developers admit that if you try and use the DOOM3 engine in another environment it would quickly lose its luster and shine.
So trying to compare the two is pointless in my opinion. EQ2's engine would completely blow away the DOOM3 engine.
EQ2 is still the game I anticipate the most but I think it has some of the worst art in the mmorpg industry.
I honestly prefer the original EQ1 models, Ryzom's, WoW's, Guild War's, and just about every other mmorpgs over EQ2's.
I don't understand what they are doing visually at all. A few of the city images are very nice as are some of the monsters. Why the character models, much of the landscape, and the other half of the monsters are so incredibly bad I cant imagine. I think they must have amazing developers creating the graphics engine but didn't hire much in the way of artists to put those tools to use.

I have Doom 3. It has outstanding graphics, but EQII is much more detailed. In my oppinion it looks better. And we are talking about an MMO and an FPS. The fact that EQ2 is an MMO and still has raised the bar past games like Doom 3 an fps, is outstanding.
Okay not sure how Doom 3 squeezed in here....but....I still have not seen any posts that direct me to a good set of models to look at from the new graphics out. Are there any for EQ2??? And I think the grapics for the world are great, but the characters have been a problem for me...still look a little off. I was very intererested to see how they have been changed. Most of the shots shown here are far off or only one good shot of one model...is it to soon to be asking for new shots...should I wait for the beta to be over??

I agree with the fact that the monsters look pretty good in EQ2. I squeezed in Doom3 because it's a game that's already out that has better graphics than most (except for the monsters) of the graphics of EQ2.
My point is that all I here about EQ2 is graphics graphics graphics graphics graphics graphics graphics. And yes, the graphics are better than most games from a year or maybe 6 months ago. But there are games out now and coming up at the same time as EQ2 that have better graphics. It pisses me off since I played EQ1 for a long time and when I heard there was gonna be an EQ2, I was real excited about the graphics. I'm VERY DISAPPOINTED in what graphics EQ2 is still hyping.

There I have to disagree a little, I really haven't seen any other MMORPG's that have had the incrediblly detailed graphics EQ2 has. My main issue has been the character model graphics haven't seemed to fit in with the other detailed graphics in the game. And I think the newer graphics out there are catching up to what EQ2 are because they think thats what they need to do to keep up in the world. EQ2 will have the graphics and content if all goes well, some games only have one or the other. I will totally conceed to the fact that characters in EQ2 are better than most character models out there. I just want to see mre wrinkles , dimples, smile marks, or something that shows on the faces. Maybe I'm asking to much. It will still be a good game that I am not going against.
Yep, have to admit, the graphix in EQ2 is the best ive seen in any MMO...and most of you can't even speak as to how EQ2 will ACTUALLY look like until you actually play it... Looking at video clips or images is one thing, but actually playing it and seeing the water splash around your feet is two different things...
Oh, and I have Doom 3 for the record...I would hardly compare a FPS game to a MMO... FPS games are not even a fraction of the content or mass of a MMO world... as to where it may take a FPS game 6 months to design a beautiful game before the graphix go out of style, it may take an MMO dev team 3-4 years....
